Description

Aug. 4, 1936. D. LEGROS BUCKSAW Filed A ril 16', 1935 'INVENTOR DCZWZQS Leg TOS Attorney Patented Aug. 4, 1936 r or ies BUoKsAw' Damas Legros, Sioux Lookout, Ontario,
Canad Application April 16,
1935, Serial No. 16,714
In Canada November 6, 1935 1 Claim.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a saw. Its primary object being to devise an improved saw frame combining therewith a new device providing quick tightening and releasing means for the frame and blade.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the said frame will be held in assembled position when the tightening means are released.
With these and other objects in view that may appear while the description proceeds the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing and in which-- Fig. 1 is a general view of the improved buck saw.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the quick tightening and releasing means.
Fig. 3 is a further enlarged plan View of the tightening and releasing means.
Referring more in detail to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views it will be seen that the invention comprises an H shaped frame having a substantially vertical back support member I0, the lower end of which forms the handle H for the saw, and a corresponding substantially vertical front member 62. A horizontal member I3 is provided and supported between the said back and front members and checked thereinto at its ends M and I5 as shown. The said vertical back and front members are formed with recesses I6 and H, the former being cut to receive the end M of the cross member and the latter out to form a pivotal bearing socket l8 into which the circular end l5 of the cross member rests. The said cross member is positioned approximately central in the frame and permits a slight pivotal action to the frame members as the same are moved when tightening or releasing.
The saw blade I9 is held by two clamps 20 which are positioned on the lower parts of the frame members I0 and I2, and is secured thereto by bolts or pins 2|.
The tightening device comprises a wire or rod 22 looped around the upper end of the frame member ID which is protected by a metal collar 23 having a number of projections 24 on the outside thereof. A corresponding wire or rod 25 is looped around the upper end of the frame member I2 which is similarly protected by a collar 26 having projections 21 thereon. The projections 24 and 21 hold the wires 22 and 25 in position on the collars and by moving the wires higher or lower the tension of the said wires may be adjusted. A tightening lever 28 5 is arranged to draw the wires 22 and 25 toward each other. Said lever is constructed with orifices 29 to receive loops 30 connected to the wire 25 and a plurality of notches 3| for the wire 22 wherein the same may be adjusted. 10 The said wires are arranged to engage the said notches and orifices in such a manner as to be drawn toward each other as the device is tightened. A flange 32 is bent outward from the end of the lever 28 by means of which the lever 5 is raised when releasing the tension. A wire retainer 33 is provided to hold the lever under slight pressure when the tightening device is released in order to hold the frame members assembled together. 20
It is believed the construction and advantages of the structure shown may be apparent from the foregoing paragraphs taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing without further detailed description.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been disclosed it is understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of cooperating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
In a saw of the type described, a frame composed of two substantially vertical end members and a cross member intermediate the length of said end members, having one end fulcrumed to one of the end .members and its opposite end connected to the other end member, a saw blade having its ends connected to the lower ends of said end members, wire loops engaged around the upper ends of said end members, a tightening lever having notches along the upper edge of its lower end adapted to be engaged by the free end of one of said wire loops, links pivotally connecting the other wire loop to said lever above said notches, and a retainer loop extending from said last mentioned wire loop beneath the underside of said lever below said first mentioned Wire loop for holding the lever and wire loops in assembled relation when said lever is released.
