Description
F. W. TWICKLER RESERVOIR COVER FOR OIL sTOvEs Aug. 4, '1936.
Filed July 17, 1955 Patented ug. 4, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT 1 Claim.
The invention relates to reservoir covers for oil stoves, and has for its object to provide a reservoir cover which will substantially house the reservoir of an oil stove and form the outer wall of the reservoir in case of leakage of the reservoir.
A further object is to provide the marginal edges of the cover with detent means cooperating with the main reservoir for holding the cover in position.
A further object is to provide the cover with an upwardly extending tubular member axially thereof and adapted to be received within the wick tube and preferably terminating above the filling opening of the reservoir and the liquid level therein. 1
A further object is to provide an oil stove reservoir repair cover adapted to entirely house the reservoir and to prevent leakage in case of leaks in the reservoir caused by the action of acids or rust developing in the reservoir.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth,
shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a conventional form of oil stove, showing the reservoir cover applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the reservoir cover.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral I designates the reservoir of the stove which is preferably cylndrically shaped and 2 the filling opening therein through which kerosene or other oil is poured to be taken up by capillary atthe reservoir and made in different sizes for different size reservoirs.
The cover I is provided with a marginal ange 8 which engages a gasket 8a interposed between it and the flange 9 at the upper end of the res- 5 ervoir I for forming a leak proof connection between the cover and the reservoir, and is held in position by spring arm detents I0 carried by the cover l', and which detents spring over the flange 9. Many of the oil stoves as at present constructed have the central wick guide tube I formed integral or as a part of the reservoir bottom 5, therefore to accommodate the device to reservoirs of this type the reservoir cover 'I is provided with an upwardly extending tubular 15 portion II which fits into the wick tube 4 and is carried by the bottom I2 of the cover "I, The tubular member II preferably terminates above the filling opening 2 of the reservoir I, therefore it will be seen that the reservoir is completely 20 housed, and if a leak develops in the reservoir,
' the removable cover I will act as a reservoir wall for preventing leakage of the stove. The covers I may be sold as part of the stove equipment or as a separate item after a leak develops. It has 25 been a common practice to discard the stove in case of leakage or to attempt to repair the same. I-Iowever the expense for repairing is high on account of the labor element involved.
From the above it will be seen that a remov- 30 able repair cover is provided for leaky oil stove reservoirs which entirely houses the same and acts as an outer wall for the reservoir in case of leakage from the reservoir and the cover may be cheaply manufactured and sold. It will also 35 be seen that the cover can be applied to the reservoir by anyone by simply placing the stove reservoir therein and forcing the parts together until the spring detent arms ID spring over the flange 9 and the gasket 8a` is compressed between 4:0 the flanges 8 and 9.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is:
The combination with a leaking oil stove reservoir having a filling opening and a tubular air conduit extending axially upwardly through the reservoir, an opening through the bottom thereof, an annular ange extending around the outer periphery of the reservoir below the lling opening, of a removable cover carried by said reservoir and adapted to form an outer reservoir wall for the reservoir, said cover having an open ended tubular member extending upwardly from the bottom thereof and into the tubular air conduit and terminating above the filling opening in the reservoir, a marginal flange carried by the removable cover below said lling opening, spring arms carried by the removable cover and adapted to spring over the flange carried by the reser- Voir and maintain the cover in position on the reservoir and a gasket interposed between the annular flange carried by the reservoir and the marginal ilange carried by the removable cover in a position below the lling opening and forming a leak-proof connection between the reservoir and the removable cover.
