Description
M. J. MACK NECKTIE LINING Aug. 4, 1936.
Filed March 8, 1935 Zahn/- Patented Aug.. 4, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,049,743 NECKTIE LINING Mortimer J. Mack, Summit, N. J.
Application March 8, 1933, Serial No. 660,059
1 Claim.
The subject-matter of the present invention relates generally to textile fabrics, and the improvements are directed to a novel form of fabric adapted for special use in connectiony with tie' linings, or the like.
Primarily, the object of the invention is to produce an article of the above-mentioned character that will not twist, coil or fold up to impair the usefulness thereof.
lo Another object is t'o provide a tie lining adapted to be cut on the bias from a fabric made in accordance with my invention, which may be stretched and tied, and which will resume its original neat and at condition.
Still another object is to provide a lining which may be incorporated into a tie that will not lose its shape due to climatic conditions, or the like.
With these objects in View. together with others which will appear as the description proceeds,
L the invention resides in the novel formation, combination and arrangement of parts, all as will be described more fully hereinafter, illustrated in the drawing, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In said drawing: Figure 1 is a view illustrating a textile fabric made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of a tie lining cut from the material shown in Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 andv4 are views illustrating the relation of the warp and lling and showing that said warp and filling may be given a right and left hand twist, respectively.
Referring now more in detail to the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views, let 5 indicate generally the fabric shown in Fig. l, said fabric including the warp yarn 6 and the iilling 1. Y
. As shown in Fig. 3, said warp yarn 6 and said o lling yarn 'l are each twisted in the same direction, as distinguished from the usual method of twisting same warp in the opposite direction to the twist of said filling. In Fig. 3 said warp and filling are given a right-hand twist, while in Fig. 45 4 the twist is left-hand, but in both instances the twisting is in the same general direction.
After the fabric has been made in accordance with the foregoing, said material is then cut on the bias to produce the lining shown in Fig. 2, wherein the relation of the warp and filling is diagrammaticallyillustrated. Said lining may be 6 stretched transversely or longitudinally to compensate for the usual folding or tying of the neck-tie, yet in spite of these operations said material will resume its true shape without the attendant bulging or twisting present in the 10 present-day forms of linings.
It will be appreciated that said material may be made of single or double ply warp and filling yarns, as desired, within suitable ranges, and that said material may comprise yarns of wool, wool 15 and worsted, all worsted, all mohair, rayon, cotton, or a mixture of any and/or all, or combinations of each of `the various materials.
The lining 8, shown in Fig. 2, as pointed out hereinbefore, may be used in connection with the 20 well-known forms of ties with the assurance that the latter will hold its shape when stretched or 5 subjected tothe ordinary tying operations.
In finishing the material the same is subjected to the usual crabbing process and may be scoured 25 or not depending on the i'lnish and then sized as desired.- Preferably said material is subjected to crabbing for approximately twenty minutes, whereupon the cloth is reversed and the crabbing continued to'obtain the required setting of the yarns. After scouring or sizing the material is nally dried, brushed and pressed.
While the present is a disclosure of the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is `to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto, as various changes in the minor details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as deined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A non-curling bias-cut neck-tie lining consisting of right-hand twisted weft or filling strands and right-hand twistedwarp strands, said warp strands being larger than said4 weft strands. g 45 MORT. J. MACK.
