In the embodiment of my invention illustrated 35'n in the drawings, numeral I indicates a hot air furnace having a top or bonnet 2 provided with an inwardly inclined or conical wall 3. The channel I0 is covered by means of a hood I2 which loosely fits Within the upper half of the central opening in the front escutcheon, the
top I3 of the hood being curved downwardly and inwardly to t the top of the opening through a wide range-of inclinations of the front escutcheon (see Fig. 4). My humidifier is thus made readily adaptable to hot air furnaces having bonnets-10 the side walls of which slope at different angles. The hood is removably disposed on the channel I0 and is provided with a flange I4 for coaction with the removable cover l5 of the water inlet or float Vchamber I6. The water admitted to the float chamber is controlled by the float valve I1 which is conventionally illustrated, the water pipe being shown at I 8, Fig. 1. A drain cock is provided at I9 for cleaning the pan.
lThe rear escutcheon lis secured to the wall 3 20 and is provided with a vertical central opening through which the overflow pipe 2D extends, the inner end of the pipe being connected to the inner end of the pan II as shown for supporting the latter. The overflow pipe is supported by 25 the vertically adjustableslide 2l associated with the rear escutcheon-A1. The position of the slide is controlled by the screw 22 by means of which the Voverflow pipe' 20 and water pan I I can be adjusted to their proper level. The water pan II is elongated as shown, the necky I0 extending through the wall 4 -being relatively deep and narrow. The neck merges into a central longitudinal concave channel 23 of increasing width anddecreasing depth toward the inner end of the pan. The inner end of the pan is semi-circular as shown by Fig. 1. The channellike neck also merges into a peripheral upwardly sloping ledge 24 ofsu'bstantially uniform depth and of increasing width toward the inner end-of the pan. The overflow outlet is disposed slightly above the bottom of the outer ledge 24 whereby there is provideda bodyoi water having a relatively deep `central portion: substantially surrounded by a relatively shallow portion, the two providing a large Water evaporating surface.
z For this reason, my humidieris of exceptionally large capacity and functions eciently to supply the warm air circulating through the bonnet 2 with the proper amount of moisture. The 50 relatively deep central-channel 23 provides an adequate supply of water at all times while the ledge'24 acts to quickly evaporate theshallow water thereabove.' By shuttingV` off the water supplyfand opening the" drain cock I9, the entire contents of the pan may be drained inasmuch as the drain cock is placed at the lowest point, there being no obstructions in the path of the water thereto. My improved humidifier is extremely simple and economical in its parts and yet it is very eiective and efficient for the purpose intended.
I have illustrated and` described my improvements inan embodiment which I have found very practical. I have not attempted to illustrate or describe otherA embodiments or adaptations, as it is believed this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my improvements as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention,V what I claim as new and desire to. secureibyLetters Patent is:
1. In a humidifier, the combination with a hot.
air furnace having a casing wall provided with front and rear openings, of a front escutcheon secured to said wall and having a central opening, a relatively shallow water pan disposed within said -wall and having V a water supply channel fitting and extending through the lower half of the central opening in said front escutcheon and tiltably supported by the lower portion thereof, a hood covering said channel and loosely fitting within the upper half of the central opening in said front escutcheon, the top of the hood vbeing curved downwardly and inwardly to fit the top of the opening through a wide range of inclinations of said front escutcheon, a rear escutcheon secured to said wall-and having a vertical central opening, a combine-d overflow pipe and support connected to the rear of said water pan and extending through said vertical central opening, and a vertically adjustable slide on said rear escutcheon for supporting said pipe and the pan at their proper level. c Y
2. In a humidifier, the combination with a hot air furnace having a conical upper wall provided.

In a humidifier, the combination with a hot air furnace having a bonnet provided with upwardly and inwardly inclined front and rear walls, of a front escutcheon secured to said front wall and having a central opening, a relatively shallow water pan disposed within said wall and having a water supply channell fitting and supported by the lower portion of the central open ing in said front escutcheon, a ,hood covering said channel and loosely fitting within the upper portion of the central opening in said front escutcheon, the top of the hood being curved downwardly and inwardly to fit the top of the opening through a wide range of inclinations of said front escutcheon, and a combined overflow pipe and support connected to the rear of ksaid water pan and'extending through said rear wall.

In a humidifier, the combinationrwith a hot air furnace having a bonnet provided with upwardly and inwardly inclined front and rear walls, of a front escutcheon secured to said front wall and having a central opening, a relatively shallow water pan disposed within said wall and having a covered water supp-ly channel fitting and extending through the central opening in said front escutcheon and tiltably supported by the lower portion thereof, the cover of the channel being curved to fit the upper edge of the central opening through `the range of inclinations of the escutcheon, a combined overilow pipe'and support connected to the rear of said water pan and extending through said rear wall, and a vertically adjustable means on said rear wall for supporting said pipe and the pan at their proper level.

In a humidifier, the combination with a hot air furnace having` a bonnet provided with upwardly and inwardlyy inclined front and rear walls, of a front escutcheon secured to said front wall and having a central opening, a relatively shallow water pan disposed withinsaid wall and having a covered water supply channel fitting and extending through the central opening in said front escutcheon and tiltably supported by the lower portion thereof, the cover of the channel being curved to t the upper edge of the central opening through the range of inclinations of the escutcheon, and a combined overflow pipe and support connected to the rear of said Water pan and extending through said rear wall.
8. In a humidifier, the combination with a hot air furnace having a conical upper wall provided with a front opening, of a front escutcheon secured to said wall and having a central opening, a relatively shallow water pan disposed within said wall and having a water supply channel t- 7g;A
