SCALP MASSAGING; APPARATUS- Filed June 10, 1935 INVENTOR.
I zr flzwsan,
Patented Aug. 4, 1936 7 2,049,434 I SCALP MASSAGING APPARATUS Prentis E. Erickson, Minneapolis, Minn assignor to James B. Bradshaw, Minneapolis," Minn.
Application June 10, 1935, Serial No.- 25,925-
4 Claims. (01. 128
This invention relates to improvements in vibrating and massaging apparatus, and more particularly to a head and scalp vibrating device, which will be supported upon a suitable bracket, and placed in the home or office, so that a person may treat themselves, and gain the same results that are possible were the same treatment given by the medical profession.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved head and scalp vibrator which will be placed directly on the head and will be provided with a wide flexible band which will pass down at each side of the persons face, over the ears, and below the chin, thereby massaging the ears and face muscles through contact of the band While the scalp is being vibrated.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved head and scalp vibrator which will be formed with an applicator having resilient and flexible fingers for engagement with the top and sides of the head, whereby the scalp over the brain, which is the center of the control system for the body, will be massaged and thereby rest the patient in a few minutes of treatment as much as he would be rested in a full night of sleep.
A further object of the invention is to provide a head and scalp vibrator which will massage and vibrate the scalp, and will be so formed that the facial muscles and the ear and associated drum and tubes may be vibrated, thus resting and healing a person due to the restful eifects of the massage and the improved circulation and vibra- 'tion of the various organs.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved head and scalp vibrator, which will be highly efficient in operation, and quite inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawing which forms a part of my application,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved head and scalp vibrator showing the same on my preferred form of bracket;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the improved form of bracket;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the vibrator applicator showing the same in position on the top of a head;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of my improved head and scalp vibrator showing the same on a modified form of bracket, and
Figure 5 is a partial sectional view taken on the line 5--5 of Figure 4.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawing to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out my invention, I provide my preferred form of bracket support, which consists of a wall plate I, and a pair of supporting arms 2 pivoted thereto, and arranged to lie parallel to each other When adjusted to any angle. A vibrator supporting head member 3 is secured to the outer ends of the arms 2 at spaced intervals, as clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. Thumb screws 4 will be employed to hold the supporting head member 3 at the desired adjusted position. The vibrator 5 will be carried at the outer end of the head member 3, and is provided with a ball and socket connection 6, which attaches the applicator l to it. There is also a yoke member 8 which is swivelled upon the ball and socket connection 6, and is formed at its outer extermities with the hooks 9. A wide massaging band ll] of rubber or other suitable material will be formed with a plurality of openings H at its opposite ends for attaching the same to the hooks 9, so that the band will fit tight down over the ears and the side of the face and below the chin, and will be adjustable to fit difierent sizes of faces.
The applicator l is formed with a plurality of laterally and downwardly extending spring fingers l2, which are made shorter in length in the front where the applicator engages the front of the head. These short fingers are designated I3, and are formed exactly similar to the other fingers l2. The fingers are constructed with inner resilient spring strips or core members I4, which are covered by suitable protecting covers l5, of cloth, leather .or rubber, or any suitable material.
The modification of bracket shown in Figures 4 and 5, comprises a vertically extending rod l6 secured to a wall ll in spaced relation, and slidably supports the laterally extending arm l8, to which a similar vibrator supporting head I9 is pivotally mounted, as is the head 3. The vibrator 20 will be carried or mounted at the free end of the head H], as clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawing. It will be apparent that there is a vertical adjustment of the arm l8, and
the head I9 with vibrator 20, may be swung up on to the top of the arm l8 when the device is not in use. In the preferred bracket, the spaced arms permit of the whole device-being pushed up out of the way in one single motion or operation.
Many minor changes in detail of construction EAT Eur oreic E; T y
may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a supporting wall bracket having spaced parallel arms, a head and scalp vibrator carried at the free end thereof, a head contacting applicator having convexly curved resilient gripping fingers connected to the vibrator by a ball and socket connection, and. a face, ear and chin massaging band supported by and at the opposite ping fingers connected to the vibrator by a ball and socket connection, and a face, ear and chin massage band supported by, and at the opposite sides of the applicator.
3. In combination, a head and scalp vibrating device comprising a vibrating motor and a flexible applicator connected thereto by means of a ball and socket connection, said applicator being formed with a plurality of spring fingers having coverings, and the fingers adapted. to extend over the front of a persons head being substantially shorter in length than the other fingers.
4:. The subject matter as claimed in claim 3, and. a flexible, massage band adjustably carried by said applicator adapted to cover the ears, cheek and pass below the chin of a person when the applicator is in operative position.
