This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a ledge plate for a traveling stoker.
It is an object of this invention to construct 'a-ledge' plate which is characterized by having d spaced pads on the underside thereof for resting upon the top of thestoker side frame section to keep the plate slightly raised above the stoker frame for air circulation.
.Afurther object of the invention is to provide 103 the ledge plate with a depending narrow lip portion on the underside thereof which is adapted to be set veryclose to the ends of the carrier bars of the stoker traveling grate so that in the event of its rubbing'on the ends of the bars, it would wear away without interfering with the stoker operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide the ledge plate with lug portions on the under side thereof adapted to project down over the top of the stoker side frame to prevent the ledge plate from working loose.
Still further, the invention contemplates constructing the ledge plate from a plurality of ad'- jacent units and to arrange the units for directmg air from the interior of the stoker to pass beneath and cool the units.

.The air cooled ledge plate, according to this invention, is used in conjunction with a traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section 5. I0 adjacent a traveling grate H. The ledge plate consists of a plurality of adjacent units, each unit comprising a body I4 having a flat top portion l5. Spaced pad portions I6 are formed on the underside of the body .and are for the purpose of resting on the top of said frame section ill to keep the frame slightly raised above the stoker side frame for air circulation. Furthermore, if desired, shims (not shown on the drawing) may be engaged beneath the pad 16 for properly mounting the ledge plate. 20

Lug portions l8 are arranged on the underside of the body I4 and areadapted to project down over the top of the stoker side frame and against the outer edge of the frame to prevent the plate from working loose or moving. Furthermore, these lugs serve to keep the units in line with each other. The lugs l8 are reinforced with rib portions l9. These rib portions connect with edge extension portions 28 from the outer edge of the body Id. The said lip portion I1 is formed with slots 2| extending into the body I4 for a short distance up to the points 2 l, to allow as much air as possible to cool the plate without weakening it.
A shoulder portion 22 is formed in the bottom of the body l4 opposed to the lug portions l8 and is adapted to engage against the inner edge of the side frame section ill to assist in holding the ledge plate in position.

An important feature of the invention resides in the construction of the narrow'lip portion IT. This lip portion is very close to the ends of the carrier bars of. the stoker traveling grate. Because it is narrow it will readily wear away in the event that the bars of the "grate engage against it, and will thus eliminate a possible breakdown of the stoker operation. Heretofore, the engagement of the bars of a stoker traveling grate against the ledge plate has been one of the causes for the breakdown in operation of the stoker, The unburned fuel tends to build up in the ends of the grate bars and under the ledge plates, and if it does so acumulate, it will be wasted since it is thencarried to the rear and dumped into the ash pit. The thin lip portion i1 prevents the unburned fuel from' accumulating by damming it off. This is instrumental in the saving of fuels The thin lip portion 51 also prevents the] fire from burning back gradually into the brick work and reaching theside frame of the stoker.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. 'I' therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit or'the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my. invention, what I 7 claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:'
1. In combination with a'traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section adjacent a traveling grate, a base plate consisting of adjacent units, each unit'comprisingabody having a fiat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the top of, said frame section to keep the plate slightly raised above the stoker side frame, for air circulation, a depending narrow lip portion on the underside of said body which is adapted to be set very close to the. ends of the carrier bars of the traveling grate of the stoker so that in' the event of its'rubbing on the ends of the bar it would wear away without interfering with the stoker operation, and lugportions on the underside of said body adapted to project down over the top edge of the stoker side frame to prevent the plate from working loose.
2. In combination with a traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section adjacent a traveling grate, a base plate consisting of adjacent units, each unit comprising a body havinga flat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the top of said.

In combination with a traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section adjacent a traveling grate, a base plate consisting of adjacent units, each unit comprising a body having a fiat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the top of said frame section to keep the plate slightly raised above the stoker sideframe for. air circulation, a depending narrow lip portion on the underside of said body which is adapted to beset very close to the ends of the carrier bars of the traveling grate of the stoker so that in'the' event of its rubbing on the ends of the bar it would wear awaywithout interfering with the stoker operation, lug portions on the underside of said body adapted to project downover'the top edge of the stoker side frame to prevent theplatefrom working loose,
and end wall portions on the outer ends of the end units continuing from the ends of said lip portions to the side frame section to close the opening under the plate and prevent air from blowing out'the front of the stoker. V
4. In combination with a traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section adjacent-a traveling grate, a baseplate consisting of adja cent units, each unit comprising a body having a flat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the top of said framesection to 'keep the plate slightly raised.

units, each unit comprising a body having a fiat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the topof said frame section to keep the plate slightly raised above the stokerside frame for air circulation, a depending narrow lip portion on the underside of said body which is adapted to be set very close to the ends of the carrier bars of the traveling grate of the stoker so that in the event of itsrubbingonthe ends of the bar it would wear away without interfering with the'stoker operation, lug portions on the underside of'said body adapted to project down over'the top-edge of the stoker side frame to preventthe plate from working loose, and a shoulder portion on the bottom of said body and opposed to said lug portions for engaging against the said side frame section to assist in holding the ledge plate.
6. In combination with a traveling grate stoker having a stoker side frame section adjacent a traveling grate, a base plate consisting of adjacent units, each unit comprising a body having a fiat top portion, spaced pad portions on the underside thereof and resting on the top of said frame section to keep the plate slightly raised above the stoker side frame for 'air circulation, a depending narrow lip portion on the underside of said body which is adapted to be set very close to the ends of the carrier bars of the traveling grate of the stoker so that in the event of its rubbing on the ends of the bar it would wear away without interfering with the stoker operation, lug portions on the underside of said body adapted to project down over the top edge of the stoker side frame to prevent the plate from working loose, edge extension portions on the outer side of the body immediately adjacent said lug portions, and reinforcing ribs from said extensions 10 to the lug portions.
