Our invention relates to an improved system in which a plurality of sheets are built up to furnish a comparative relation in a loose leaf binder permitting at a glance a complete survey of the business by month to month as well as a year to date analysis, and comparisons with previous years or periods, this furnishing a comparative view of various periods and items. Such an analysis, under the systems employed, at present, cannot be obtained without a great deal of copying of data. The principal object of this invention is the. provision of means for giving a visual graph for executives by means of which there can be frequent and recurring testing of the operations of the business either from a standpoint of budgetary control to which the system is peculiarly adaptable or for the use of sales records or branch ofiices, profit and loss accounts, etc.
A further object of our invention is to provide a system which will permit the use of small sheets instead of the long sheets which are now employed which cannot be conveniently handled either for inspection purposes or for typewriting.
A further object is to provide means of producing several copies of such statements for several executives without the necessity of transcription. I A further object of this invention is the provision of means whereby the units may be secured together for permanent binding.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a system by means of which a visual graph, giving a birds-eye view of the entire business may be had both from month to month and year to year without the necessity of making or referring to the records in the various branch ofiices which are widely separated by referring to other disjointed and unrelated data for the purpose of obtaining the desired analysis, thereby eliminating a large part of intermediate copying endless of time. 7
In the accompanying drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention Fig. 5 shows a book of sheets bound together by the means shown in Figure 4.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
Referring to the showing of the improved unit analysis system as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the unit I is provided, as shown with a plurality of spaces 2 at the right hand underneath the heading 3 entitlted Year to date". At the left hand the heading 6 is entitled Month of. These two headings being arranged in columnar form.
In the center is placed in the space 4' provided therefor such designation as may be suitable for the branch of business in which the analysis is being kept as for example if it is for the profit and loss statement the items would be V somewhat as shown in Fig. 3.
In this case it will be obvious that the executive has before him a month to month analysis of the business which is being done and each separate item classified as, obviously, the additional units l are supplied from month to month and built up in the relationship shown until the volume is completed by the end of the year at which time it may be found desirable to supply the permanent binders shown in Fig. 4 which consists of a gummed strip 5 slotted at suitable intervals 6 which is designed to be secured to the complete assemblage as shown in Fig. 5. This complete unitary structure '1 can then be bound in a permanent binder (not shown).
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the units are arranged so as to present on the right hand side the desired information as year to date and on the left hand side month to month.
This is highly desirable in some institutions because it practically gives the executive a birds eye view of the entire business operations not only by month to month but from year to year. As shown the units are provided with a series of perforations 8 at their upper ends which are adapted to fit the rings or binding posts 9 of a loose leaf binder I0 which as shown in Fig. 1 consists of two covers II and I2 which are provided with a plurality of binding rings or posts 9 of standard construction.
To these may be attached the units l which are built up in shingled relation as illustrated and inasmuch as the binder is firm and square it is possible to place for example a T square on one edge and by its use cross additions may be made for the purpose of obtaining totals when desired.
A device for binding the units into a unitary structure is shown in Fig. 4 comprises a strip 5 which is provided with a plurality of slots 6. r
