CLAMPING DEVICE Filed MaICh 20, 1934v xyz. 4 ff?. 2,
Patented May 5, 1936 UNITED STATES vPATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a clamping device which is mainly designed for clamping the body of a truck to the chassis frame, the general object of the invention being to provide an adjustable clamp which can be adjusted to suit different sizes of members which are to be clamped together.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference l5 will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whichz Figure l is an end view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
In these views, the numeral I indicates a member of substantially inverted U-shape, with its limbs having the pairs of projections 2 thereon which curve upwardly, as shown, and the projections of each pair being spaced apart, as shown in Figure 2. This member I has its upper portion fitting in a channel member 3, the channel of which receives the member A to be clamped to the member B and this member 3 has its bight part and its limbs formed with the side flanges 4 which form channels for embracing portions of the member I. A leaf spring 5 is placed between the bight parts of the two members, as shown in dotted lines in Figure l. A pair of T bolts 6 have their heads engaging any desired ones of the projections 2 of the limbs of the member I and these bolts have reduced lower ends which pass through holes in a bar I which contacts the lower part of the member B and lock washers 8 and nuts 9 are placed on the threaded ends of the bolts. Thus it will be'seen that by tightening the nuts 9 after the parts have been assembled, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the parts are drawn together so that 5 the clamp will hold the two parts A and B firmly locked together.
As before stated, the device is mainly intended for holding the body of a truck or the like to the chassis bars and in this event, the member A 10 would represent a part of the body and the member B a part of the chassis frame and as will be seen the device is adjustable so that it can be used on various sizes of objects.
It is thought from the foregoing description 15 that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, providedao that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed isz- In a clamp for clamping two members in superposed relation, a saddle arranged to rest upon 25 one of the members and having depending arms lying along opposite sides of said member, said saddle being formed in its top with a channel, a U-shaped element having its bight portion seated removably in said channel and having its legs 30 depending in spaced relation to said opposite sides, the outer side of each of said legs beings formed with notches dening upwardly and laterally outwardly directed vertically spaced ears, the lower and upper sides of each ear being curved up- 35 wardly.
