Description

April 28, 1936. c HQFFMANN 2,938,841 I DEVICE FOR FOG FORMING APPARATUS 0F LONG Y DURATION WITH INCREASED STARTING EFFECT Filed Jan. 22, 1954 INVE NTOR Patented Apr. 28, 1936 UNITED STATES DEVICE FOR FOG-FORMING APPARATUS OF LONG DURATION WITH INCREASED STARTING EFFECT Curt Hoffmann, Neuruppin, Germany, assignor to the firm Minirnax A.-G., Berlin, Germany Application January 22, 1934, Serial No. 707,811 In Germany January 31, 1933 12 claims. (01. 299-101) The well known devices of this kind consist in the usual iron conveying receptacle containing the fog-forming substance and a separate discharging device. When brought to the place of application, the receptacle is placed so that the closure is on top, the closure is removed and replaced by a nozzle-piece carrying the nozzle-pipe of pipes and vent-pipe serving for discharging the fog-forming substance, and the receptacle is then turned to bring the nozzle plate to the bottom so that the fog-forming substance can drip out by gravity.
The liquid chemicals used in the production of artificial fog, particularly the acid-mixtures known as fog-acids, such as sulphur trioxide and chlor-sulphonic acid, have to be handled always with the greatest possible care as is well known, because of the risk of dangerous skin-burns and the spoiling of wearing-apparel, boots, etc. Although dispensing with the older pouring of the fog-acid substance from one receptacle to another did away to a large extent with the risk in handling these acids when the receptacle for its transport could be thus directly used in the production of the artificial fog, the personnel handling the apparatus could still come into direct contact with the fog-substance when opening the closure and screwing in or out the nozzlepiece with its discharge and vent-pipes, and it is the object of the present invention to obviate even this risk to the personnel supervising and handling the apparatus.
To this end the nozzle-piece carrying the discharge and vent-pipes is already screwed into the filling opening of the transport-receptacle, barrel or the like, at the works, and into a sunk position, to be protected during shipment by a cover preferably screwed over said nozzle-piece. Only this cover has then to be removed upon arrival at the point of application in order to serve as a fog-producing apparatus without any risk whatsoever of the personnel coming into contact with the fog-forming substance.
The accompanying drawing shows a form of execution of this invention.
The opening for pouring the fog-substance into the transport barrel (1 is arranged so that the nozzle-piece b may be screwed into a position sunk into the interior of the barrel. By the usual sealing cap g the nozzle piece will be protected against dirt and damage during shipment. For practical reasons the air supply or vent-pipe c of the drip or evaporating apparatus will be also screwed into the nozzle-piece. To prevent clogging of the nozzle by impurities of the fog-substance, the apparatus will be provided with filters e, arranged as shown in the drawing. The nozzle-spouts of the pipes d d as well as the ventspout c are covered with small sealing caps f, in order to prevent any fog-substance from filling up the space between the cover g and the nozzlepiece b during transportation. This arrangement insures also the advantage of preventing the nozzle-piece from getting too tight by corrosion under the influence of the acid fog substance, while on the other hand the barrel has thus a double seal which is rather important considering the possibilities of leakage in single closures.
To avoid any corrosion and sticking of the sunk nozzle-piece, the latter as well as thesealing-caps for the nozzle and vent-pipes may be made of acid-proof material. As mentioned above, this nozzle-piece will be screwed into the barrel after filling it at the works manufacturing the acid and will be then protected against damage during transportation by the sealing cover g. The sealing cover 9 is within the external diameter of the tires t on the lateral surface of the barrel so that no damage may be done to the cover or the elements enclosed thereby in the course of the rolling of the barrel. After arrival at the place where the fog-forming material is to be dispensed, the barrel is first set up with the cover 9 on top. This cover and the caps f are then removed and the barrel is rolled to the position shown in the drawing. The fog-forming liquid now drips out of the nozzles of the pipes d and (7 as air enters the barrel through pipe 0 to relieve the vacuum.
Having thus described the said invention with reference to the accompanying drawing what is claimed to be protected by Letters Patent is:
