This invention relates to improvements in mining machines of the track mounted type and has as its principal objects to provide a new and improved means for collecting the cuttings discharged from the kerf by the cutter chain in a machine of the class described and conveying said cuttings away from the machine in a novel manner.
Other objects of my invention will appear from time to time as the following specification proceeds.

In the drawings, the embodiment of my invention illustrated comprises a mining machine of the track mounted type having a depending cutter bar adapted. to cut a horizontal kerf in the mine wall at various elevations with respect to the bottom, and includes a truck frame I0 mounted on wheels II, II and axles I2, I2. The truck frame I0 is spaced from and supported by the forward axle I2 by means of spacing members I3, I3 and is spaced from and supported by the 5 rearward axle I2 by means of spacing members I3a, Isa, which support said axle for tilting movement with respect to the truck about an axis extending transversely thereof in a usual manner, suitable means being provided to hold said axle l0 in fixed relation with respect to said truck when desired.
A turntable I4 is mounted on the truck frame I0 adjacent the forward end thereof and has a cutting element generally indicated by reference l character I5 trunnioned thereon, and yieldably adjustable with respect thereto about a horizontal transverse axis disposed adjacent the forward end thereof in a manner well known to those skilled in the art.
The cutting element I5 includes a motor I6, a cutter frame I'I extending forwardly of said motor beyond the forward end of the truck frame I0, a cutter head I8 carrying a cutter bar I9 having a cutter chain 20 movable thereabout in a closed 25 orbital path, which cutter head is supported in parallel spaced guides 2|, 2| extending from said cutter frame for adjustable movement with respect to said cutter frame. The cutter head I8 may be moved toward or away from the cutter 30 frame Il and held in various positions of adjustment with respect thereto by means of a threaded shaft 23 interposed between said cutter frame and cutter head and selectively driven from the motor l in a manner Well known to those skilled in the art. A cutter chain sprocket 24 is journaled in the cutter head I8 and meshes with the drives the cutter chain 20 about the cutter bar I'I and is driven from the motor I6 in a well-known manner which will not herein be described in detail since it is no portion of my present invention.
The cutter bar I9 is mounted on the cutter head I8 for adjustable movement with respect thereto about an axis coaxial with the axis of rotation of the cutter chain sprocket 24 for adjusting said 45 cutter bar for cutting in narrow entries or for cutting to each side of and below the level of the track in a manner well known to those skilled in the art and is capable of being freely swung or locked in various adjusted positions with respect to said cutter head.
With respect now in particular to several of the novel features of my invention and the means for collecting the cuttings discharged from the kerf by the cutter chain 20 and discharging said 5g? cuttings beyond the machine, an extensible cuttings collecting chute 25 is provided. The cuttings collecting chute 25 includes a rearward stationary section 26, depending from and secured to the movable portion of the cutter head I8, having a bottom surface 21 disposed beneath the cutter bar I8 with an opening 28 therein adjacent the rearward end thereof and rearwardly of said cutter bar in the path of the cutter chain 26 for permitting the cuttings to be expelled from said chute. The sides of the stationary section 26 conform substantially to the path traversed by the cutter chain 28 so said cutter chain may cooperate with said chute for moving the cuttings therealong and expelling them through the opening 28.
A movable section 29 is carried by the stationary section 26 for extensible movement with respect thereto and is slidably supported therein in suitable guides and has supporting engagement with the cutter bar I 9 adjacent its forward end on an upstanding support member 39. The support member 39 is secured to the bottom portion of the forward end of the movable section 29 and is slidable in a slot 3| formed in the central portion of the cutter bar I9 and extending longitudinally thereof. A retaining member 33 is secured to the upper end of the support member 39 and slides on the top surface of the cutter bar I9.
Means are provided for yiel'dably holding the movable section 29 in an extended position with respect to the stationary section 26, which may be of any form but which as herein shown comprises a tension member such as a spring 34 secured to the forward portion of the cutter bar I9 in the slot 3| adjacent one of its ends and having its opposite end connected to the forward'end of an eye-bolt 35 extending through a support member 36 for a forward extensible section 31 of the cuttings collecting chute 25, and having its rearward end connected to the support member 39.
'Ihe forward extensible section 31 of the cuttings collecting chute 25 is slidably supported in the movable section 29 in such a manner that it may be telescoped within or extended from said extensible section. A pair of parallel spaced racks 39 are secured to and depend from the bottom of the forward section 3| and are adapted to be meshed with pinions 46, 49 secured to a tubular member 4|. The tubular member 4I is journaled on a shaft 43, which shaft is rotatably carried by brackets 42, 42 depending from opposite sides of the movable section 29. A helical spring 44 encircles the shaft 43 and has one of its ends secured thereto while its opposite end is secured to a member 45 having operative connection with the inner periphery of the tubular member 4|. The ends of the shaft 43 are squared for receiving a hand crank or wrench. A pawl and rachet device 46 is provided for holding the shaft 43 from rotation in one direction. Thus, when the spring 44 is wound by manual rotation of the shaft 43, said spring will tend to rotate the tubular member 4| and move the extensible section 31 forwardly with respect to the cutter bar I9 in an obvious manner.
Means are provided on the forward end of the extensible section 31 for yieldably engaging the face of the mine wall, which may be of any form but, which is herein preferably shown as being a yieldable deecting member 41 pivotally secured 'to the underside of the bottom of the extensible section 31 adjacent the central forward portion thereof. The deecting member 41 is yieldably engaged with the face of the mine wall by means of compression members 49, 49, which members are interposed between xed abutments depending from the forward section 31 and opposite sides of said deflecting member and encircle rods 56, 56 spaced adjacent opposite sides of the forward section 31, which rods are slidably movable with respect to said forward section and are pivotally connected adjacent their forward ends with opposite sides of the deflecting member 41 (see Figure 1). Thus, as the cutter bar is moved into and across the coal face, the collecting chute 25 may have adjustable contact with the coal face and serve as a means for collecting the cuttings discharged from the kerf by the cutter chain 20 for discharging said cuttings therefrom adjacent the rearward end thereof.
The cuttings expelled through the opening 29 in the cuttings collecting chute 25 are collected and conveyed away from the machine by means of a shaker conveyor, generally indicated by reference character 5|. The shaker conveyor 5| includes a reciprocable drive mechanism, general-ly indicated by reference character 52 operatively connected with a reciprocably movable pan 53. The pan 53 extends rearwardly along the truck frame I9, above the truck axles I2 but beneath said truck frame and the turntable I4 and is inclined upwardly towards its rearward end to permit the discharge of material into a distributing conveyor 51. The forward end of the pan 53 is widened to receive material from auxiliary shaker conveyors or reciprocable pans 54, 54 disposed on opposite sides of said pan for collecting material when the cutter bar I9 is disposed on opposite sides of the center line of the machine. The pans 54, 54 are of an arcuate shape and. conform substantially to the path traversed by the discharge opening 28 of the cuttings collecting chute 25.
The forward end of the pan 53 is supported on suitable rollers 55, 55 carried by a bracket 56 extending forwardly of the forward spacing members I3, I3 and secured thereto. From the rollers 55, 55 the pan 53 extends rearwardly along the truck frame I9 and is inclined upwardly with respect to the ground so said pan may obtain sufficient elevation to discharge material onto the distributing conveyor 51. 'I'he rearward end of the pan 53 is supported on rollers 59, 59 which ride on the legs of suitable angles 69, 68 secured to the inner sides of a bracket 6I depending from the rearward end of the truck frame I9.
Each pan 54 is supported in a plurality of carrier frames 19, 19 supported on anti-friction rollers 89, 89 adapted to ride on an arcuate track formed by angles 19 and 11, secured to brackets 18, 18 depending from the truck frame I 0. An upstanding leg of the angle 16 and a retaining member 82 depending from the outer side of each carrier retains each carrier on the arcuate track formed by the angles 16 and 11. (See Figures 7 and 8.)
Each pan 54 is provided with an extensible section 8| which may be extended therefrom or telescoped therein to compensate for varying paths of travel of the rearward end of the cutter bar I9 when cutting a wide or narrow place. The extensible sections 8|, 8| have closed rearward ends and are supported by the carrier frames 19, 19, and may be manually extended from or retracted Within the pans 54, 54 and held from movement with respect thereto in a suitable manner; as, for instance, a suitable clamping means or a pin and aperture locking means of a type well known to those skilled in the art, but not herein shown in detail.
Any form of reciprocable drive mechanism may be used, but in the form herein shown, a drive mechanism operating on the principles disclosed in a patent application, Serial No. 644,666, led by me on November 28, 1932, is used and includes a crank 63 driven from a motor 64 by means of reduction gearing generally indicated by reference character 65. The crank 53 oscillates a rocking member 66 through a connecting rod 61. A lever arm 58 extends from the rocking member 56 and its operatively connected with another lever arm 69 keyed to a shaft 10 by means of a connecting rod 'l I. The axis of pivotal movement of the shaft l is on the opposite side of the longitudinal center line of the connecting rod 1| from the axis of pivotal movement of the rocking member 65 and lever arm 68 to provide a more uniform acceleration and deceleration of the forward and return strokes of the mechanism and to provide a more even and eiiicient drive for the conveyor pan 53. A lever arm 'i3 is secured to one of the cuter ends of the shaft 10 and has a connecting rod 'ill pivotally connected thereto, the forward end of which connecting rod is operatively connected with the under side of the pan 53 by means of a suitable connecting link 'l5 in the usual manner for reciprocably moving the pan 53 in such a manner as to move coal therealong from the forward to rearward end thereof.
The means for reciprocably driving the pans or conveyors 54, 54 from the pan 53, includes a pair of bell crank members 84, 84 pivotally supported in brackets 85, 85 secured to outer sides of the forward spacing members i3, I3. Links 86, B6 are pivotally connected to the under side of the pan 53 on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line thereof and have pivotal connection with one lever arm Sl of the bell crank members 84, 84. An opposite lever arm 88 of each bell crank member 84 has pivotal connection with the under side of the pan 54 adjacent the center line thereof for reciprocably moving said pan upon reciprocation of the pan 53 in an obvious manner.
The pans 53 and 55, 54 are so arranged that material expelled from the opening 28 in the cuttings collecting chute 25 may be collected during the entire cutting operation in all positions of the cutter bar with respect to the truck frame l0. Thus, the cuttings may be loaded when the cutter bar is pivotally adjusted about the axis of the cutter chain sprocket 24 when cutting in narrow places or when the cutter bar is in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the cutter frame l1 and positioned for cutting an arcuate or slabbing kerf. (See Figures ll and l2.)
It should be further noted that by the use of shaker or jigging conveyors, the conveyors may more readily be arranged to conform to the path of the cuttings collecting chute 25 and the height of the apparatus may be kept down to a minimum, which permits the construction of a lower machine than is otherwise possible and thus makes possible the operation of the machine in places of conned vertical height.
With reference now in particular to the distributing conveyor l and the means for carrying the cuttings away from the discharge end of the pan 53, said conveyor may be of an ordinary type, such as a flight or belt conveyor and is herein preferably shown as being carried on a turntable support 50, pivotally secured to the bracket El beneath the discharge end of the pan 53 for pivotal movement with respect thereto about a vertical axis. The discharge end of the conveyor 5l may also be vertically adjusted by means of a flexible adjusting member, generally indicated by reference character SI, in a usual manner well known to those skilled in the art, to permit loading of the cuttings onto mine cars of varying heights or to permit the conveyor to load and travel in places of low vertical height.
It may now be seen that a new and improved cuttings gathering and conveying means has been provided for a mining machine of the track mounted type, which may efficiently gather the cuttings during the entire cutting operation when making slabbing or arcuate kerfs in narrow entries or wide rooms, and that this apparatus includes a plurality of shaker conveyors arranged in a new and novel manner so as to take `up a minimum amount of vertical height and permit the slack or cuttings to be efliciently gathered and conveyed away from the machine proper, in a new and novel manner.
While I have herein shown and described one form in which my invention may be embodied, I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction or arrangement of parts herein shown and described, nor to the embodiment herein illustrated, excepting as specifically limited in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
l. In a mining machine, a wheeled truck frame, a projecting cutter chain carrying cutter bar extending therefrom and adapted to cut a kerf disposed beneath the top of said frame, and means for collecting and conveying the cuttings away from said cutter bar comprising a shaker conveyor disposed beneath s-aid frame and extending rearwardly from the rearward end of said cutter bar.
2. In a mining machine, a wheeled truck frame, a projecting cutter chain carrying cutter bar extending therefrom and adapted to cut a kerf disposed beneath the top of said frame, and means for collecting and conveying the cuttings away from said cutter bar comprising a cuttings collecting chute arranged beneath said cutter bar for contact with the face of the mine wall, and a shaker conveyor extending rearwardly along said mining machine beneath said frame and adapted to receive the cuttings discharged by said cuttings collecting chute.
3. A mining machine in accordance with claim 2 wherein the cuttings collecting chute is provided with a cuttings discharge opening adjacent its rearward end and wherein the shaker conveyor is arranged beneath and conforms to the path traversed by this discharge opening.
4. A mining machine in accordance with claim Z wherein the cuttings collecting chute has adjustable contact with the face of the mine wall and is provided with a discharge opening adjacent its rearward end, and wherein the shaker conveyor is arranged beneath and conforms to the path traversed by this discharge opening and extends rearwardly of this discharge opening.
5. In a track mounted mining machine, a turntable, a cutting element thereon including a pro- ;ecting cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout and adapted to cut a kerf beneath the top of said turntable, and means for collecting the cuttings discharged by said cutter chain comprising a shaker conveyor disposed beneath the discharge end of said cutter bar, and extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable. 1
v6. In a track mounted mining machine, a turntable, a cutting element thereon including a projecting cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout and adapted to cut a kerf beneath the top of said turntable, and means for collecting the cuttings discharged by said cutter chain comprising a cuttings collecting chute having contact with the face of the mine wall and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings discharged thereby and a shaker conveyor arranged beneath said cuttings collecting chute and extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.
'7. A mining machine in accordance with claim 5 wherein the shaker conveyor includes an arcuate forward portion conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cutter bar and a portion extending rearwardly therefrom bene-ath said turntable.
8. A mining machine in accordance with claim 6 wherein the cuttings collecting chute is provided with a discharge opening, wherein a shaker conveyor is arranged beneath said discharge opening and substantially conforms to the path traversed by the same and has a portion extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.
9. In a mining machine and in combination with a cutting mechanism including a track mounted truck having a turntable thereon, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout projecting from said turntable and movable therewith and adapted to cut a kerf beneath the top of said turntable, and means for cooperate with said cutter bar for collecting the cuttings discharged thereby for removing the cuttings therefrom, and a shaker conveyor arranged beneath the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute and extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.
1D. A mining machine in accordance with claim 9 wherein the shaker conveyor is arranged to conform to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute and extends rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.
ll. A mining machine in accordance with claim 9 wherein the shaker conveyor is arranged to conform to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute and extends rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable and comprises a conveyor drive, a longitudinal section reciprocated thereby extending from a point disposed forwardly of the forward end of said truck rearwardly beneath said turntable and a pair of arcuate sections arranged adjacent opposite sides of the forward end of said longitudinal section and conforming substantially to the path traversed by said cuttings collecting chute.
12. A mining machine in accordance with claim 9 wherein the shaker conveyor is arranged to conform to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute and extends rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable and comprises a conveyor drive, a longitudinal section reciprocated thereby extending from a point disposed forwardly of the forward end of said truck rearwardly beneath said turntable, a pair of arcuate sections arranged adjacent opposite sides of the forward end of said longitudinal section and conforming substantially to the path traversed by said cuttings collecting chute, and wherein said arcuate sections are reciprocably driven by said longitudinal section upon reciprocation thereof.
13. A mining machine in accordance with claim 9 wherein the shaker conveyor includes a section extending from a point forwardly of the forward end of said truck towards the rearward end thereof and another section conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute.
14. A mining machine in accordance with claim 9 wherein the shaker conveyor includes a section extending from a point forwardly of the forward end of said truck towards the rearward end thereof and another section conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute and reciprocably moved by said first mentioned section.
15. In a mining machine, a truck adapted to travel along a trackway, a turntable on said truck, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond the boundaries of said turntable and a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout adjustable towards or from said cutter frame and pivotally movable with respect to said cutter frame about an axis disposed forwardly of said truck, and means for collecting the cuttings discharged fronr the coal face by said cutter chain comprising a cuttings collecting chute having adjustable contact with the face of the mine wall movable with said cutter bar and having a discharge end disposed adjacent the rearward end thereof, a conveyor conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute, and another conveyor extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable. 16. A mining machine in accordance with claim wherein the conveyors are shaker conveyors and wherein the first-mentioned conveyor is driven by the second-mentioned conveyor.
17. In a mining machine, a truck adapted to travel along a trackway, a turntable on said truck, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond the boundaries of said turntable and a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout adjustable towards or from said cutter frame and pivotally movable with respect to said cutter frame about an axis disposed forwardly of said truck, and m'eans for collecting the cuttings discharged from the coal face by said cutter chain comprising a cutting collecting chute movable with said cutter bar having adjustable contact with the face of the mine wall and having a discharge end disposed adjacent the rearward end thereof, a shaker conveyor extending from a point disposed forwardly of the forward end of said truck rearwardly beneath Said turntable, and another shaker conveyor discharging into said first-mentioned conveyor and conforming to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting chute.
18. In a mining machine, a truck adapted to travel along a trackway, a turntable on said truck, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond the boundaries of said turntable and a cutter bar adjustable towards or from said cutter frame having a cutter chain movable thereabout and mounted for pivotal movement with respect to said cutter frame about an axis disposed forwardly of said truck, and means for collecting the cuttings discharged from the coal face by said cutter chain comprising a cutting collecting chute having adjustable contact with the face of the mine wall' movable with said cutter bar and having a discharge end disposed adjacent the. rearward end thereof, a shaker conveyor extending from a point disposed forwardly of the forward end of said truck rearwardly beneath said turntable, and other shaker conveyors discharging into said rst-mentioned shaker conveyor and disposed' on opposite sides thereof and conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cutting collecting chute.
19. A mining machine in accordance with claim 18 whereinV the conveyors are driven by a single drive mechanism disposed beneath the mining machine truck.
20. A mining machine in accordance with claim 18 wherein a reciprocable drive mechanism is provided for driving one of said conveyors and wherein the other conveyors are driven by said first-mentionedconveyors.
2l. A mining machine in accordance with claim I8. wherein a reciprocable drive mechanism is provided for driving said central conveyor and wherein a pair of bell crank members are provided for driving said other conveyors from said first-mentioned conveyor.
22. In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, said cutter bar and chain being adapted to cut a kerf beneath the top of said turntable, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and' discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by saidcuttings collecting mechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyor conformingY substantially to the path traversed by the rearward portion of said cuttings collecting mechanism and another shaker conveyor extending rearwardly therefrom and disposed beneath said truck frame and abovel said axles.
23. A mining machine in accordance with claim 22 wherein the first-mentioned shaker conveyor is driven by the second-mentioned shaker conveyor.
24. A mining machine in accordance with claim 22 wherein a bell crank member is provided for driving the first-mentioned conveyor from the second-mentioned conveyor.
25. In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings collecting mechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyor disposed on each side of the longitudinal center line of said truck and conforming substantially to the path traversed by the rearward end of said cuttings collecting means, and another shaker conveyor into which said rst-mentioned shaker conveyors discharge extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.
26. A mining machine in accordance with claim 25 wherein the last-mentioned shaker conveyor acts as a drive means for the first-mentioned shaker conveyors.
27. A mining machine in accordance with claim 25 wherein the last-mentioned shakerA conveyor acts as a drive means for the rst-mentioned shaker conveyors and wherein theV means for driving said first-mentioned shaker conveyors from said last-mentioned shaker conveyor comprises a pair of bell crank members.
28. In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported.- on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings collecting mechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyor disposed orwardly of said truck including areciprocably movable pan formed with an arcuate center line.
29. In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame,
a cutting element on said` turntable including. a cutter frame extending beyond said truck,l a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable' thereabout supported thereby, means associated. with said cutter bar and cooperating with said= cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means fork conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings collecting mechanism away from saidy mining machine including a shaker conveyor disposed forwardly of said truck including a reciprocably movable pan conforming substantially tov the, path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting means and another pan extensible with`- respect thereto.

a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings collecting mechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyor disposed forwardly of said truck including a reciprocably movable pan formed with an arcuate center line and another pan extensible with respect thereto.

In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings c01- lectingmechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyor including a reciprocably movable pan extending from a point disposed forwardlyY of the forward end of said truck towards the rearward end thereof, and another pan formed with an arcuate center line disposed in alinement with the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting means and driven from said first-mentioned pan. 32. A mining machine in accordance with claim 31 wherein the second-mentioned pan has a section extensible with respect thereto to conform to varying degrees of travel of said cutter bar.
33. In a track mounted mining machine, a turntable, a cutting element thereon including a projecting cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout, and means for collecting the cuttings discharged by said cutter chain comprising a shaker conveyer disposed beneath the discharge end of said cutter bar and extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable, and including an arcuate forward portion conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cutter bar and a portion extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable.

In amining machine and incombination with a cutting mechanism including a track mounted truckhavinga turntable thereon, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout projecting from said turntable and movable therewith, and mens for collecting the cuttings discharged by said cutter bar including a cuttings collecting member engageable with the mine wall and adapted to cooperate with said cutter bar for collecting the cuttings discharged thereby, and a shaker conveyer arranged beneath the discharge end of said cuttings collecting member and extending rearwardly therefrom beneath said turntable arranged to conform to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting member and comprising a conveyer drive, a longitudinal section reciprocated thereby extending from a point disposed forwardly of the forward end of said truck rearwardly beneath said turntable, and a pair of arcuate sections arranged adjacent opposite sides of the forward end of said longitudinal section and conforming substantially to the path traversed by said cuttings collecting chute.
I 35. A mining machine in accordance with claim 34, wherein the arcuate sections are reciprocably driven by the longitudinal section upon reciprocation thereof.

In a mining machine and in combination with a cutting mechanism including a track mounted truck having a turntable thereon, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout projecting from said turntable and movable therewith, means for' collecting the cuttings discharged by said cutter bar including a cuttings collecting member engageable with the mine wall and adapted to cooperate with said cutter bar for collecting the cuttings discharged thereby, and a shaker conveyer arranged beneath the discharge end -of'said cuttings collecting member including a section extending from' a point forwardly of the forward end of said truck towards the rearward end thereof and another section conforming substantially to the path traversed by the discharge end of said cuttings collecting member and reciprocably driven by said first mentioned section.

In a track mounted mining machine, a truck including a truck frame supported on wheels and axles, a turntable on said truck frame, a cutting element on said turntable including a cutter frame extending beyond said truck, a cutter bar having a cutter chain movable thereabout supported thereby, means associated with said cutter bar and cooperating with said cutter chain for collecting the cuttings and discharging them rearwardly of said cutter bar, and means for conveying the cuttings collected by said cuttings collecting mechanism away from said mining machine including a shaker conveyer conforming substantially to the path traversed by the rearward portion of said cuttings collecting mechanism and another shaker conveyer extending rearwardly therefrom and disposed beneath said Atruck frame and above said axles and a drive connection between said conveyers whereby said second-mentioned conveyer reciprocably drives said first-mentioned conveyer.
38. A mining machine in accordance with claim 37, wherein a bell crank member is provided for driving the rst-mentioned conveyer from the second-mentioned conveyer. A
