FOOD CARRYING CASE Filed Aug. 19, 1953 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 lnvenlor M7529"? di m/1;} 0/" llomey Patented Mar. 17, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a case or box for carrying food or liquid so that the same can be sold on the streets and highways, the general object of the invention being to provide a box formed of wood or other suitable material, with means for keeping the articles placed in the box cold or hot, as desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the box can be rolled along or carried by a strap passing around the shoulders.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the shoulder strap.
Figure 3 is a perspective view, with parts broken away and one of the lids in raised position.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view with parts broken away and looking toward the bottom of the box.
In these views, the numeral I indicates the body of the box Which may be formed of wood or any other suitable material and if desired, the box may be formed in such a way as to keep articles of food or drink placed therein cold or hot for a considerable time. A cross piece 2 extends across the top of the box, at the center thereof, and a pair of lids 3 is hinged to this cross piece, as shown at 4, and a U-shaped handle 5 is supported by the cross piece so that the box can be carried by this handle.
Staples 6 are attached to the ends of the box to receive the snap fasteners 1 on the ends of a shoulder strap 8 so that the box can be carried by placing the strap across the shoulders. Brackets 9 are fastened to the corners of the bottom part of the box and carry the wheels or rollers I so that the box can be pushed or pulled along a surface and if desired these parts 9 and 10 can be made in the form of caster wheels. A bumper bar II extends across each end of the box adjacent the lower end and if desired, a reinforcing plate l2 may be placed across the bottom of the box, as shown more particularly in Figure 4, with turned-up ears l3 at its ends which are fastened to the ends of the box and this plate may be reinforced by beads I4 which are pressed into the material forming the bottom of the box, as also shown in Figure 4.
Guideways l are formed in the internal walls of the box for slidably supporting a tray I6 on which articles of food or the like can be placed. A pocket forming member I! is fastened to the under face of each lid 3, as shown in Figure 3, with the bottom part of the member perforated, as also shown in Figure 3, so that dry ice or the like can be placed in these pockets to keep the material placed in the box or suitable heating means may be placed in these pockets or in other portions of the box to keep the articles therein hot.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided simple means for facilitating the vending of food or drinks on the streets or highways, with means whereby the device can be carried by the strap, or by the handle, or can be pushed along a surface.
While the drawings show but one tray, it will be understood that as many of these trays can be used as desired.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
In a food carrying box including a hinged lid, a casing for containing a temperature changing medium, said casing comprising a perforated bottom part, a pair of side walls and an end wall, said side Walls having outwardly extending flanges at their upper edges attached to the under face of the lid, with the end wall facing the hinged end of the lid and the front end of the casing being open and facing the free end of the lid, whereby when the lid is swung to a vertical position, the temperature changing medium can be placed in the casing or removed therefrom through said open end of the casing.
WILLIAM KESSLINGER.
