Description

zmnms M. A. BURGARD LOLLIPOP FIGURE Filed Jan. 18, 1934 Patented Feb. 18, 1936 UNITED STATES LOLLIPOP FIGURE Margaret Anna Burgard, South Williamsport, Pa., assignor to C. A. Reed Company, Williamsport, Pa., a. corporation of Delaware Application January 18, 1934, Serial No. 707,146
10 Claims.
This invention relates to dolls or other figures formed up from lollipops. One of the difficulties heretofore experienced in attempts to make up lollipops into such articles has been to so 'form them that they will stand upright.
One of the objects of the present invention, therefore, is to provide a construction which will include a stable support for the article so that it may tend to maintain itself firmly in upright position. i
A further object is to provide an improved arm construction.
Further matters of invention reside in other constructional features as will later more 'fully appear.
For a more complete understanding of this invention reference may be had to the accompanying drawing. In the drawing,
Figures 1 and 2 are front elevations showing two embodiments of this invention. 7
Figure 3 is a side elevation of. the article shown .in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a side elevation showing the manner of attaching the lollipop to a supporting base.
. Figure 5 is a perspective of the supporting base itself.
Referring tothe drawing, at I is shown a base member preferably formed of sheet materialsuch as cardboard, or, if desired, metal, having relatively narrow spaced extensions 2 and 3 forming with the base a stand for the article, as is shown best in Figures 4 and 5. At 5 is shown a lollipop having a paper wrapping 6 of usual construction, the paper being gathered together and wrapped about and twisted into close contact with the stick I of the lollipop, as shown best in Figure 4. This stick I, together with the portion of the wrapper 6 wound thereon is then arranged along the length of one of the base extensions, such as 2, in substantially upright position and is secured thereto. This may be done by the use of glue, and if desired also, a strip of material 8 such as paper may be wound about the stick, its wrapping, and the extensions 2. Next, the upper end of the extension 3 is secured as by an adhesive to the lollipop stick and its related part, as, for example, by being secured directly to the Wrapping 8.
One face of the lollipop may have secured thereto, as shown transverse to the extensions 2 and 3, as by adhesive, a sheet material piece such as the disk H) which may have printed or otherwise marked thereon a suitable face for the figure. For example, in Figure 1, a girls iace is represented on the disk it, while in Figure 2 a boys face is so represented.
Cooperating with this disk It to substantially conceal the lollipop and its Wrapping ii, a hat member may be secured thereto. Thus, in Figures l and 3, the hat member l2 may be formed of a piece of crepe paper adhesively secured to the back of the lollipop wrapping and extending to the desired extent around the face member ii]. In Figure 2 somewhat conical shaped hat i4 is shown for the same purpose. This also may be made of crepe paper gathered together and secured at one end to form the pointed portion I5.
Arm-simulating portions may be formed as shown at 20, a suitable material for the purpose being an ordinary pipe cleaner, comprising a central wire 2| and textile strand material projecting outwardly therefrom. This member may be positioned back of the lollipop stick and the extensions 2 and 3 and may be secured in position in any suitable way and wrapped about by suitable sheet material such as crepe paper which may form body and costume portions of the figure to suit the taste of the maker. For example, in Figure 1 this paper covering extends down about the extensions 2 and 3 forming a skirt por tion 25 which surrounds and substantially conceals these extensions and it may also be provided with another skirt portion 25 which may be gathered together about the body of the figure by a strip 21 wound thereabout.
As shown in Figure 2 the extensions 2 and 3 may be individuallyv lapped by trouser-simulating portions 30 and 31 and the upper part of the figure may be provided with a coat-simulating portion 32 which extends along the arm member 20. The figure thus constructed is provided with a base portion of sufiicient size to hold the figure upright and the method of forming the uprights 2 and 3 as integral extensions of the base I bent upwardly therefrom produces a structure so rigid with respect to the base that the figure is securely supported therefrom. The manner in which the stick of the lollipop is secured to one of these extensions also provides a firm support for the lollipop itself and the parts which are joined together around this stick provide a body portion of a substantial character for supporting the clothing-simulating portions.
From the foregoing description of certain embodiments of this invention, it should be evident to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications might be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim: I
1. In a device of the class described, a sheet material base having relatively narrow spaced portions extending upwardly therefrom, and a lollipop having a stick portion in substantially upright position, secured to said spaced portions.
2. In a device of the class described, a sheet material base having relatively narrow spaced extensions bent upwardly therefrom, and a lollipop having a stick portion in substantially upright position secured to said spaced portions.
3. In a device of the class described, a sheet material base having spaced extensions bent upwardly therefrom, and a lollipop having a stick portion in substantially upright position lying along one of said extensions and secured thereto, and the other extension secured at its upper end to said stick portion.
4. In a device of the class described, a sheet material base having spaced extensions bent upwardly therefrom, a lollipop having a stick portion lying along one of said extensions, a wrapping wound about said one extension and stick, and the other of said extensions being brought up and secured at its upper end to said wrapping.
5. In a device of the class described, a sheet material base having spaced extensions bent upwardly therefrom, a lollipop having a stick portion in substantially upright position lying along one of said extensions, a wrapping wound about said wrapping extension and stick, and the other of said extensions being brought up and secured at its upper end to said wrapping.
6. A device of the class described, comprising a sheet material base having spaced extension portions bent up therefrom, a lollipop having its stick secured to the upper ends of said portions and having its main portion provided with a headsimulating part, said stick and extension portions being wrapped to simulate a body, and costumesimulating parts hiding said body-simulating part and said extensions therebeneath.
7. A device of the class described, comprising a lollipop having a stick, a wrapping for said lollipop gathered together about said stick, a sheet material piece having a face marked thereon secured to one face of said wrapping, a sheet material base having oppositely disposed extensions bent up therefrom and secured to said gathered portion of said wrapping transverse to said sheet material piece, and clothing-simulating portions covering said stick, gathered wrapping portion, and extensions.
8. A device of the class described, comprising a lollipop having a stick, a wrapping for said lollipop gathered together about said stick, a sect material piece having a face marked thereon se-- cured to one face of said wrapping, a sheet material base having oppositely disposed extensions bent up therefrom and secured to said gathered portion of said wrapping transverse to said sheet material piece, clothing-simulating portions covering said stick, gathered wrapping portion, and extensions, and a hat-simulating member cooperating with said sheet material piece to substantially enclose said wrapping above said clothingsimulating portion.
9. A device of the class described, comprising a lollipop having a stick, a wrapping for said l0llipop gathered together about said stick, a sheet material piece having a face marked thereon secured to one face of said wrapping, a sheet material base having oppositely disposed extensions bent up therefrom and secured to said gathered bent up therefrom and secured to said gathered,
portion of said wrapping transverse to said sheet stick adjacent to the upper ends of said exten':--
sions and partly covered by said clothing-simulating portions, and a hat-simulating member cooperating with said disk to substantially enclose said wrapping above said clothing-simulating portion.
