Description

M. 21, 1936. w, COLE 2,028,499
LIGHT BAFFLING SCREEN Filed Jan. 4, 1935 Patented Jan. 21, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates generally to electrical illumination apparatus and more particularly to a light baiiiing screen particularly adapted for the illumination of display windows of stores.
The object of the present invention is to provide a light bafliing screen in which the light baming plates or louvers may be easily and quickly as sembled within a frame without the use of rivets, spot welding, soldering or the like.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent frcm the following description reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a cross sectional view taken through a housing and reflector showing the improved light bailiing screen mounted therein.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the light diffusing screen parts being broken away and shown in section.
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 55 of Fig. 3.
Referring more specifically to the drawing l designates a housing or light box which is adapted to be installed in the ceiling H within a display window adjacent the window pane thereof indicated in dotted lines at l2.
Mounted in casing in is a reflector l3 that carries a plurality of sockets H which receive incandescent lamps l5, and disposed in the lower portion of said reflector is the improved light bailiing screen generally designated at l6.
Light baiiling screen l6 comprises a frame l8 of rectangular shape in plan view in which is mounted a plurality of equally spaced light baffling plates or louvers designated at [9, said plates being formed of glass and having a coating thereon to render the same translucent.
Frame It consists of end members 20 and 20",
" and side or longitudinal members designated at 2! and 22 respectively that are secured together at the corners by spot welding.- End members 20 are channel shaped in cross'section whilethe side member 2| is'of similar shape but having inwardly turned flanges 23 formed thereon.
Side member 22 is L shaped in cross section and has an upwardly turned flange 22 formed on its-lower leg and removably secured to said 3 member by screws or the like 24 is a securing and serve to hold the plates l9 in evenly spaced relation to each other.
In constructing the improved screen a sufllcient number of separators 30 are placed in the side member 2| prior to securing it to the end members 20 and 20.
In assembling a separator is placed in the side member 22 and moved into engagement with the end member 20'. A plate I! is then placed in the frame II! with one end thereof projecting between a pair of the separators in the side member 2|.
A separator is then placed in the side member 22 and moved into engagement with the plate I! and the operation repeated until all of the plates and separators have been mounted in the frame.
Member is then applied to member 22 and secured by screw 24.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the light baiiiing plates may be quickly and firmly 20 mounted in the frame without the use of bolts, rivets, soldering or spot welding.
The light baiiling screen l6 above described is hingedly connected to the reflector l3 as indicated at 32 (see Fig. 1) in order that it may 2 be swung downwardly when it becomes necessary to replace one or more of the lamps l5 and held in place by a suitable latch designated at 3|.
The housing "land reflector may be of any desired length say about 10 feet and a plurality of the improved light baflling screens mounted therein as above described.
I claim:
1. A light bafiiing screen comprising a rectangularly shaped frame including longitudinal 35 channel shaped members having inwardly turned flanges formed thereon, a plurality of light bafliing plates disposed in said frame with their opposite ends projecting into the side members thereof, and a plurality of channel shaped separators disposed between said light baming plates and removably mounted in said frame.
2. A light bafliing screen comprising a rectangularly shaped frame including longitudinal channel shaped members having inwardly turned flanges formed thereon, a plurality of light bafliing plates disposed in said frame with their opposite ends projecting into the side members thereof, a plurality of channel shaped separators, and a securing member extending lengthwise of and removably secured to one of said side members, whereby said light bailiing plates may be assembled in said frame.
