2 Claims. (Cl. 150-8) The present invention relates to hot water bot-- ties and the like provided with removable stoppers and has for its primary object to provide an improved connection for the stopper formed integral or united with the hot water bottle.

A further object of the invention is to provide such a connection which is materially less expensive to manufacture than types now available, more efficient in its purpose, and of added attractiveness to the appearance of the hot water bottle.

A further object of the invention resides in 7 providing a resilient connection of certain crosssections which tends to return to its normal position but at the same time permits rotation of the stopper in inserting into and removing the latter from the hot water bottle. a

With the objects above indicated and other objects hereinafter explained in view, the invention consists in the construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawing, I represents generally a hot water bottle of standard construction which may be formed of rubber and has a tab l l at its lower end provided with an opening 12 by which the' bottle is suspended for draining and storage.

The upper or opposite end of the bottle it has a neck portion I 3, a tapered mouth portion [4 and a tab Hi, all preferably formed integral. The tab I5 is also provided with an opening it. by which the bag may be suspended, -A plug ll of rubber is secured within the neck portion It by cement or other suitable means and has a transverse opening therein within which an interiorly threaded tapered sleeve l8, usually of metal, is secured in any suitable manner.

An exteriorly screw-threaded stopper I9 is adapted to be disposedwithin the sleeve l8 when the bottle is filled with water or other liquid to prevent escape therefrom and may be removed when it is desired to empty or fill the bag with water.

Secured to the under side of the stopper I9 is a rubber washer 2!] which engages with the bottom of the sleeve l8 to provide a water-tight joint. At the opposite end of the stopper I9 is a finger extension 2| having an opening 22 therethrough, the extension providing means by which the stopper may be affixed or removed from the sleeve. 5

On the outer side of the mouth portion l4 and preferably adjacent its upper edge a stopper connecting means is provided. In the present instance it comprises a solid rubber cord 23 preferably circular in cross section,vand having one 10 end united to the mouth portion l4. This is preferably formed while molding, although it may be secured'in any suitable manner in a subsequent operation. 7

The opposite end of the cord 23 is provided with a'knob 24 of sufiicient size to enable it to be forced through the opening 22 in the extension 2! of the stopper l9 and thereafter be prevented from accidental disengagement. The cord 23 is of a diameter to permit the stopper l9 to be rotated without interference and of sufficient resiliency to cause it to return to its normal condition after being twisted by the rotation of the stopper.

The full lines in Figure 1 show the position of 25 the cord 23 when the stopper I9 is disposed within the sleeve l8 and the dot and dash lines indicate the position of the cord when the stopper [9 is removed.

The rubber cord has many advantages, principally in that it is not injurious to persons handling and using the bag, will not rust or scratch, and due to its section will return to its normal condition after twisting.

In Figure 2 a modified connection is shown whereinthe rubber cord 23 at its free end is provided with a loop 25 which may be stretched from its normal size to be forced over the extension 2| and then contracted to secure the stopper J9 thereon but at the same time to permit rotation of the stopper.

While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that I am not to be limited thereto inasmuch as changes and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A water bottle or the like comprising a hollow, flexible, molded rubber receptacle having an inlet opening at one end thereof, a removable stopper adapted for cooperative engagement with said inlet opening and having a transversely extending opening therethrough, and a molded rubber cord having one end integrally united with 55 said receptacle adjacent said inlet opening and its opposite .end provided with a knob, said cord extending through the opening in said stopper to permit the latter to slide freely thereon, the sliding movement of said stopper being limited in one direction by engagement with said knob.

2. A water bottle or the like comprising a hollow, flexible, molded rubber receptacle having an inlet opening at one end thereof, a hollow extension surrounding said inlet opening, a removable stopper adapted for cooperative engagement with said inlet opening and having a transversely extending opening therethrough, and a molded rubber cord of substantially circular cross-section having one end integrally united with said hollow extension and its opposite end provided with a knob, said cord extending through the opening in said stopper to permit the latter to slide freely thereon, the sliding movement of said stopper being limited in one direction by engagement with said knob.
