Description
Dec. 3, 1935. P. A. HIENER 2,023,173
RECEPTACLE FOR BEVERAGE BOTTLES AND REFRESHMENT CONTAINERS Filed Feb. 5, 1934 Patented Dec. 3, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE RECEPTACLE FOR BEVERAGE BOTTLES AND REFRESHMENT CONTAINERS 3 Claims.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a suitable container or basket of such shape and size that will fit between the rear legs of the seats provided in places of amusement for 5 the audience, in such a way that the basket will be within reach of the person sitting in the seat directly behind it; the basket being attached in a suitable manner to the seat legs, frame or to the floor of the grand stand or other building Where 10 same is installed. The object of installing these receptacles in the rear of each seat in any auditorium or other place of public gathering is to provide a place for patrons to deposit beverage bottles and refreshment containers of any and 15 all kinds, so that they will not be left on the floor or in the aisles between the seats where they might endanger the life or limb of any one stepping on or tripping over same.
The aforementioned receptacle may be made 20 of any suitable material and of any size or shape that may be necessary to suit the conditions in the various places where same may be installed, provided however that provision shall be made for the placing of an advertisement on'each recep- 25 tacle in such a position that it will be visible to the person sitting in the seat directly behind the basket or receptacle.
Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation and of somewhat a diagrammatic character illustrating a receptacle for beverage bottles and the like constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
35 Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a detailed sectional view illustrating a means for securing a receptacle to the rear le 40 of a chair.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved receptacle R is of a length substantially equal to the distance between the side legs or supporting members I of a seat S of the 45 general type used in auditoriums and other places for public gathering, and wherein the seats are arranged in rows with said rows successively at greater height whereby is provided to the rear of each row and closely adjacent thereto a riser or 50 shoulder 2. My improved receptacle has one side wall 3 inclined with respect to the perpendicular on such an angle to conform to the angle of the rear edges of the supporting members or legs I of a seat S, and saidreceptacle is of a lateral extent 5 to substantially fill the space between a riser or shoulder 2 and the adjacent edges of the legs or supporting members I of an adjacent seat S so that when the receptacle R is placed in position it will be effectively maintained to the rear of a seat S with its top open face substantially. 5 flush with the floor 4 upon which is supported the succeedingirow of seats S. The wall 3 also extends a distance, as at 5, above the open top of the receptacle R to provide a rearwardly facing field upon which may be suitably placed or produced advertising matter 6 or the like. The upwardly extended portion 5 also serves as a guard to prevent a bottle or container passing over the open top of the receptacle and dropping below the seat in connection with which the receptacle is associated.
The receptacle B when in place is so positioned as to oifer no hindrance or obstruction to the desired raising or lowering of the bottom I of a seat and when in place the receptacle R is adapted to have deposited therein bottles and other refreshment containers after being emptied by the patrons and which will also receive and collect all such bottles or containers which may be placed upon the floor and roll forwardly.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a receptacle for beverage bottles and refreshment containers constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. 40
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination with a chair having spaced rear supporting members, a floor riser positioned rearwardly of the supporting members, and a 001- lecting receptacle open at its top and secured to the supporting members, said receptacle being of a length substantially equal to the distance between the supporting members of the chair and of a lateral extent to substantially fill the space between the riser and the adjacent edges of the supporting members for the chair.
2. In combination with a chair having spaced rear supporting members, a floor riser positioned rearwardly of the supporting members, and a 001- lecting receptacle open at its top and secured to the supporting members, said receptacle being of a length substantially equal to the distance between the supporting members of the chair and of a lateral extent to substantially fill the space between the riser and the adjacent edges of the supporting members for the chair, the coacting portions of'the receptacle and the supporting members of the chair maintaining the applied receptacle with its open top substantially flush with the top of the riser.
3. In combination with a chair having spaced rear supporting members, a floor riser positioned rearwardly of the supporting members, and a collecting receptacle open at its top and secured to the supporting members, said receptacle being of a length substantially equal tothe distance between the supporting members of the chair and of a lateral extent to substantially fill the same between the riser and the adjacent edges of the supporting members of the chair, the side wall of the receptacle immediately adjacent to the supporting members when the receptacle is applied extending a distance above the open top of the receptacle.
