The primary object of my invention is to provide a lavatory seat, preferably for the use of children, that may be adjusted to attach to the ordinary lavatory seat and held thereby in a firmly fixed position.

Another object of my invention is to provide a lavatory seat that is collapsible and adapted t0 fold into a small space for the purpose of shipping or storing.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and set forth in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures:

Referring to the drawing, I represents a dotted outline of an ordinary lavatory seat cover, and the numeral 2 represents a lavatory seat with the hole or opening 3 therethrough. Longitudinal arms 4 are attached to the seat 2 by means of upright hinges 5 and the hinge brace 8. The longitudinal arms 4 are secured to the upright hinge 5 by means of the screws 6, and the upright hinges 5 secured to the hinge brace 8 by means of rivets 9, and the hinge brace to the seat 2 by means of the screws Ill. The upright hinge 5 is designed and adapted to operate inwardly. A cross arm II extends transversely across the longitudinal arms 4 and is fastened thereto by means of the locking device I3, which is attached to the cross arm I I by means of a projecting screw I5. The longitudinal arms 4 are provided with metal ferrules I2, which extend therethrough, for the purpose of receiving the locking device I3. The locking device I3 consists of a U shaped member with projecting shoulders on the lower end. A spring I4 is attached to the parallel sides of the locked device and this spring causes the parallel sides of the locking device to expand after being inserted through the ferrules I2 and causes the projecting shoulders of the locking device to come in contact with the ferrules and prevent it from being pulled therethrough until the spring I4 is compressed. 5 By using a locking device of this nature it will be impossible to remove the cross arm II unless the locking devices on both sides of the cross arm are compressed at the same time.

The seat 2 is provided with a back rest i5 thai 10 is pivotally attached to the seat by means of the U shaped seat brace 6E and the screws I9. EX- tending from the U shaped seat brace, and forming a part thereof, is a cover hook 23 which is covered with a pliable material 24 so as not to mar the lavatory seat cover. This U shaped seat brace is provided with slots 2I so that the seat 2 may be adjusted to various sizes of lavatory seats, and is also used for the purpose of providing means for collapsing the back rest I5. The forward tnd of the seat 2 is also provided with cover hooks, slotted as indicated by the numeral 34 for adjustment, and secured to the seat 2 by means of the screws 32. These cover hooks are also covered with some pliable material 33 so as not to mar the lavatory seat. The back rest I5 is also provided with a locking device which acts in connection with the U shaped seat brace I8. The back seat is provided with a recess 25, and a U shaped member 26 is inserted therein and fastened to the back rest by means of the screws 2l. A locking member 28, provided with a collar 29, is inserted through the U shaped member 2B, and a spring 36 rests against the collar 28 and the top 35 of the U shaped member 26. The locking member 23 fits into a recess 30 in the U shaped seat brace I8, and thus holds the back rest in an angular position so that the sides will fit into the recesses I'I in the longitudinal arms 4. By means 40 of the cross arm II the longitudinal arms 4 are held in the said recesses I'I.

The seat 2 is provided with two slots 35, which extend from the end of the seat inward, and these slots provide the means for receiving the 45 sides of the U shaped seat brace I8 when the back rest is collapsed inward and brought forward as shown in Figure 8. There is a small clearance 22 above the brace I8 so as not to interfere 50 with its operation.

One of the longitudinal arms 4 is provided with a ferruled hole at the rear end for the reception of one of the locking members of the cross arm II to provide means to prevent the cross arm I l to hold the back rest in a locked and xed position.

In combination a collapsible lavatory seat comprising a seat member; a back rest pivotally attached to the seat member, a locking device attached to said back rest comprising a U shaped member, a locking member provided With a collar and mounted Within said U shaped member, and a spring encasing said locking member, said locking member and seat member cooperating to l0 hold the back rest in a locked and fixed position.
