Description

Nov. 12, 1935. L.- WILLING BOX WITH LABEL HOLDER Filed July 21, 1934 Leo Mil/rig Patented Nov. 12, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BOX WITH LABEL HOLDER Leo Willing, New York, N. Y. Application July 21, 1934, Serial No. 736,404
2 Claims. (01. 220-23) This invention relates to boxes or receptacles, particularly those used by the pharmaceutical profession to contain and dispense pills, powders and like forms of medicine, and upon which it is required to aflix a label identifying the contents.
It is the object of my invention to provide a box of the character described embodying in its cover formation means for conveniently attaching an identification label, which means embraces the pertinent features of simplicity, durability and economy of manufacture.
A further object of my invention is to provide pable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a box with its cover raised showing the label holder of my invention therewith; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective view of the box cover only, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, numeral 3 indicates the body portion of a box of the type described, to an edge of which is hingedly attached a box cover 4 comprising a face or top 5, from the edge of which depending flanges 6 are disposed. Extending from and integral with the end flanges 6 of the cover are rectangular'members 1 and 8 which form the label holding means of my invention. Members I and 8 are bent back on a line with the edge of the end flanges 6 so that they recede into the interior of the box cover 4 and contact with the inner surface of the end flanges 6. Members 1 and 8 are previously formed with right angular longitudinal bends so that the flanges 9 and Ill so formed will be disposed in spaced parallelism to the top 5 of the box when the first mentioned bend is completed. The space between the top '5 of the box and the flanges 9 and I0 are to be of such size as to conveniently receive and retain an identifying label II.
A label card may be easily inserted by grasping same so that it can be easily bowed suiflciently.
to fore-shorten its longitudinal length whence the ends of the card may be readily inserted under the label-retaining flanges 9 and I0, into which the card I I may be completely inserted by applying a slight pressure at the center thereof. It is obvious from the illustration that a label card so installed will be suitably retained against the inner surface of the box cover and may be conveniently replaced at any time desired. It may also be desired to install a plain card permanently under the retaining flanges while manufacturing same, in which case an identifying label may be pasted onto said card.
Altho in the physical embodiment of my invention I have illustrated the label-holding flanges as being integral with the end flanges of the box cover, it is obvious from the drawing that the label flanges may, if preferable, be formed from the front and rear depending flanges of the cover or, if desired, all of the depending flanges of the box cover may each be suitably provided with the label-holding flange.
What is claimed as new is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a box and a cover therefor, said cover including a top portion and depending flanges to extend around said box, of which flanges a pair of opposing flanges are provided with extensions integral therewith, portions of said extensions being bent back inside the cover substantially parallel with their respective flanges and extending substantially to the inner face of the top portion of the cover, the free end portions of said extensions being bent inwardly toward each other and being substantially parallel with the top of the cover to form clips for holding a label at marginal portions thereof against the inner face of the top portion of the cover.
2. An article of the character described comprising a box and a cover therefor, said cover ineluding a top portion and depending flanges to extend around said box, of which flanges a pair of opposing flanges are provided with extensions integral therewith, portions of said extensions being bent back inside the cover substantially parallel with their respective flanges and extending substantially to the inner face of the top portion of the cover, the free end portions of said extensions being bent inwardly toward each other and being substantially parallel with the top of the cover to form clips for holding a label at marginal portions thereof against the inner face of the top portion of the cover, said box and cover being oblong and said cover being hinged to the box, the top portion of the cover being flat and said extensions being at the ends of the cover.
