  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The gemstone ring apparatus of the present invention, improves the experience of wearing a gemstone ring by allowing the wearer to have a range of sizes that they may comfortably wear, while resisting turning of the ring.
  • FIGS. 1-16 depict a pendant according to the present invention. A gemstone ring apparatus (10) comprising: a hoop portion (12) having a first end portion (14) and a second end portion (16). It should be noted that typically the first end portion (14) and the second end portion (16) are welded to the first shoulder portion and second should portion, as such the dotted line in FIG. 2 is intended to depict a possible spot the first end portion (14) and the second end portion (16) would be located. The hoop portion (12) would typically follow a circular ring shape and the point (above the dotted line) at which the first shoulder portion (18) and second shoulder portion (20) begin to curve inward and up (as opposed to following a circular ring) would indicate the location of the first shoulder portion (18) and second shoulder portion (20). There is also a bezel portion having a topside (22), a bottom side (24), a left end (26) and a right end (28). The first shoulder portion (18) may be between a first end portion (14) of the hoop portion (12) and a left end (26) of the bezel portion. A second shoulder portion (20) may be between a second end portion (16) of the hoop portion (12) and a right end (28) of the bezel portion. There is a gemstone setting (30) in communication with the topside (22) of the bezel portion. The gemstone setting may take many different forms, as can be seen in FIGS. 1, 14, 15 and 16. These are by way of example only and not to be taken in a limiting sense,
  • The first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20) are substantially straight along an outer side portion (204) and slightly curved along an inner side portion (202). The first shoulder portion (18) tapers towards the left end (26) of the bezel portion and the second shoulder portion (20) tapers towards the right end (28) of the bezel portion.
  • The first shoulder portion (18) may be wider at a section that is in communication with the first end portion (14) of the hoop portion (12) and narrower at a section that is in communication with the left end (26) of the bezel portion; and the second shoulder portion (20) is wider at a section that is in communication with the second end portion (16) of the hoop portion (12) and narrower at a section that is in communication with the right end (28) of the bezel portion.
  • The basket portion (32) may be attached to at least a portion of at least one of the bottom side (24) of the bezel portion, the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20), wherein the basket portion is between the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20). For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the basket portion (32) is attached to the bottom side (24) of the bezel portion, the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20). Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 16, the basket portion (32) is only attached to the bottom side (24) of the bezel portion and is not attached to the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20). As can be seen, there is a space (300) between the basket portion (32) and the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20).
  • As shown in FIG. 3, the gemstone setting may have a center stone (34), the bezel portion (36) is substantially round in shape and the basket portion (32) is substantially round in shape, the basket portion (32) being slightly smaller than the bezel portion (36) and surrounding the center stone (34) in the gemstone setting.
  • The basket portion is shaped like a basket with at least four attachment points (100, 102, 104, 106, 108, 110, 112, 114, 116, 118, 120, 122, 124, 126, 128, 130, 132, 134, 136, 138, 140, 142, 144, 146, 148, 150, 152 154, 156, 158, 160, 162, 164, 166, 168, 170, 172, 174, 176, 178, 180), the at least four attachment points being attached to the bottom side (24) of the bezel portion and optionally a portion of the first shoulder portion (18) and the second shoulder portion (20). FIGS. 8-13 depict an enlarged and number top picture showing a bottom view of the basket, a smaller and unnumbered picture showing a bottom view of the basket and a side view of the same basket.
  • According to a preferred embodiment, the basket portion is shaped like a basket with six attachment points. This provides a solid attachment of the basket portion, a comfortable fit and allows light to flow through (which is important for gemstone settings to make the gem sparkle).
  • As shown in FIG. 14, the gemstone setting may have a center stone (198), wherein the bezel portion (196) is substantially square in shape and the basket portion is substantially round in shape, the basket portion being slightly smaller than the bezel portion and surrounding the center stone in the gemstone setting. FIGS. 17-21 depict that there may be gemstones (1802) on the basket portion (1800). FIG. 22 is intended to depict the shape of a standard ring compared with the hoop portion, first shoulder portion and second shoulder portion of the present invention. The standard ring portion (2200) is not present within the current invention. It is added to the figure to show that a standard ring with a standard ring portion would not have any flexibility in size and would require the wearer to get a specific size. It also shows where typically the first shoulder portion (2202) would begin and the second shoulder portion (2204) would begin. The first shoulder portion (2202) and the second should portion curve in a direction away from a standard ring portion (2200). Typically more than 60% of a standard ring portion creates the hoop portion of the present invention. This is important to give the ring stability. The part of the standard ring portion (2200) that is not there is typically less than 40% of a ring. This allows for a space where the standard ring portion (2200) portion would be and above that space for the wearers finger to overflow. For example, the fleshy portion of the wearers finger could overflow into the space where the standard ring portion (2200) portion would be and above that space, for example spaces (2206 and 2208).
  • The present invention has been described in relation to particular examples, which are intended to be illustrative rather than restrictive, with the scope and spirit of the invention being indicated by the following claims and their equivalents.
