1 Claim.
'Ihe present invention relates to a razor blade holder, and more specifically a holder especially adapted for holding a blade in position for sharpening the same.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a razor blade holder in which any type of razor blade may be inserted therein and positively held for stropping purposes.
A still further important attribute of the invention is to provide a razor blade holder in which the blade may be easily inserted and removed therefrom and which positively maintains the blade in a rigid position therein during the stropping process.
A further important object of the invention is to provide al razor blade holder which consists of a few number of parts, and consequently is cheap to manufacture and simple to use.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application and in which corresponding parts are designated by similar reference numerals,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the razor blade holder showing the blade in position there- Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of Figure 1 taken on line 2-2 thereof,
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view partly in section of the device,
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional View of Figure 1 taken on line 4-4 looking in the direction of the arrows,
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional View of Figure 1 taken on line 5-5, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the blade holder removed from its socket.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a length of inherently resilient metal somewhat less in width than the width of the blade 6 and being bent transversely upon itself between the ends thereof to dene a pair of blade gripping members 8. It is illustrated in Figure 6 that the blade 6 is closely confined between the blade gripping elements 8 with the forward ends of the blade'atly in engagement with the bight portion lil.
The numeral I4 designates a combined handle and blade restraining device of tubular form in cross section and having an opening extending entirely therethrough for the snug reception of the members 8. It is important to observe that the corners of the blade 6 are formed with rectangular notches or recesses defining what might be Said to be projections or extensions, the rear one of which is snugly received within the forward portion of the combined handle and blade retaining device with the result that the forward end of the member I4 is flatly engaged with the transverse wall of the adjacent rectangular 5 notches in the blade 6. In other words, the forward portion of the member I4 has a two-point contact with the wall of each rectangular recess or notch in the blade, so that the blade is held against transverse as well as longitudinal shift- 10 ing in the holding device 5.
The rear portion of the members 8 have frictional contact with the inside wall of the combined tubular handle and blade restraining device, so that such members are prevented from l5 slipping forward and allowing the blade 6 to shift.
Otherwise expressed, the blade 6 is flatly engaged on opposite faces thereof by the opposed surfaces of the flat blade holding elements 8 and such engagement is maintained through the 20 pressing together of the members 8 while within the tubular handle I4. With the members E thus frictionally secured within the tubular handle I4, the forward end of the handle I4 is received within the recessed portions at the rear ends of the blade so that the blade is in turn pressed forward into flat engagement with the bight portion I0 and in this manner the blade is held securely in place while being stropped.
The device is easily taken apart for the removal of the blade 6 and may be cleaned in a highly convenient and expeditious manner.
The inherent resiliency in the member 5 urges the blade .gripping strips 8 away from each other so that such strips are caused to have effective frictional contact with the inside wall of the handle I8 and at the same time, when the device is taken apart, the strips B will tend to move away from each other so as to release the blade 6.
Since the tubular member I4 is open at both ends thereof the same is rendered self-draining after being cleaned and this affords little opportunity for the accumulation of rust.
It is to be understood that the form of invention herewith shown and described is to be taken merely as a preferred example of the same and that such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus `described the invention what is claimed is:
In a device for detachably holding razor blades, a blade of the type in which the corners of the blade are provided with rectangular re- 55 extending entirely therethrough and being of rectangular form in cross section for the snug reception of said blade holding elements, saidA forward portions of said handle having means for engaging the longitudinal and transverse 5 sides of the adjacent recesses in the blade.
