Abstract
A double hooded garment is provided having a protective head hood cover and a protective face hood cover wherein the head hood cover and the face hood cover are integral with each other as well as the garment so as to form a single unitary article.
Description
- This invention relates to hooded garments and is particularly related to garments having integral head and face protective hoods for protection against adverse weather and other environmental conditions.
- Hooded garments have long been used to protect the head and face of a person against adverse environmental conditions such as severe cold temperatures and winds. Several such hooded garments have been used and many have been described in several patents and patent publications. For example, Publication No. US 2007/0118960 A1, published May 31, 2007, describes a sweatshirt made with two hoods, one in the back and one in the front connected together by a single stitch. This publication discloses and briefly describes a variety of face masks to protect the face.
- A recent patent, i.e., U.S. Pat. No. 7,428,740 B2 issued Sep. 2, 2008, describes an upper body garment having a head covering within which is an integral face shield and whereas the face shield may be configured to be rolled into a hollow collar for storage when needed.
- More recently, Publication No. US 2014/0096205 A1, published Apr. 10, 2014, described a hooded garment which can be worn as a head covering or head and face covering. The hooded garment has a head covering portion comprising an outer layer shaped and sized to circumscribe a wearer's head and forming a first layer of protection, and an inner layer arranged on one inner surface of the outer layer forming a second layer of protection.
- A unique single article of manufacture is provided in the form of a wearable garment such as a sweater, sweatshirt and like garments for protection against severe weather conditions. The garment which is normally worn by a person, male or female, between the neck and waist is provided with a head and face protective hoods formed as an integral part of the garment. When the garment is worn, the face of the person may be protected against wind and cold by the protective face hood cover which is provided with an open area around the eyes. The head of the person can be protected by pulling the head hood cover up and around the head. The two protective hoods are formed, e.g., (stitched or sewn) together to the garment. The gannent is washable or can be cleaned as a single article while the protective hoods are formed as part of the garment.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a garment worn by a person wherein the garment has an integral head and face protective hood coverings; -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view similar toFIG. 1 with the hood covering zipped into an open position; -
FIG. 3 is a perspective view similar toFIG. 1 with the face covering of the protective hood is folded up under the chin of the person; -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view similar toFIG. 3 with the face cover of the hood is drawn up to cover the face of the wearer; -
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the back of the upper garment with the head protective cover hanging freely on the back of the wearer, and -
FIG. 6 is a perspective side view of the upper torso of a person wearing the head and face protective hood with the head and face covers hanging freely on the front and back of the garment. - Referring to the drawings wherein like reference numerals designate like parts, there is shown in
FIG. 1 agarment 100 such as a sweater which can be worn by a male or female person. Thegarment 100 has atorso portion 101 which extends from theupper edge 103 down to thelower edge 105 of the garment and includes theintegral arms respective sleeves pocket 115 next to thelower edge 105 of thegarment 100 is provided for the user to insert the wearer's hands.FIG. 1 also shows the double protective head andface covers garment 100 and to each other at about theneck part 121 of the wearer thus forming a unitary article. As shown inFIG. 4 , theface cover 117 has anopening 123 such that when saidface cover 117 is pulled upward over theface 125 the opening 123 provides a viewing area through which the wearer can see. Theface cover 117 of the protective hood is also provided with azipper 129 which can be used to open theface cover 117 into a freely hanging position as shown inFIG. 2 . -
FIG. 3 shows thehead cover 119 pulled over thehead 127 while theface cover 117 is rolled up around theneck 121 of the wearer. - In
FIG. 5 , thehood cover 119 is shown hanging freely on the back of thegarment 100 andFIG. 6 shows thehead cover 119 and theface cover 117 hanging freely on the back and front of thegarment 100. - Thus, the
garment 100 and theprotective hoods - The garment used in the present invention may be formed from a stretchable, washable fabric, such as cotton or other similar material generally known in the art for making sweatshirts, pullovers, ski jackets and other known garments. The protective
hood head cover 119 and the protectivehood face cover 117 form integral parts of the garment and are not removable therefrom when the garment is being washed or laundered. Also, the two protective head covers can be used separately such that when the hoodedhead cover 119 is used alone the hooded face cover is hanging freely in front of the garment, and when the hood face cover alone is used, the hood head cover hangs freely on the back of the garment.
