FIG. 1 andFIG. 2 , aslide rail assembly 20 in an embodiment of the present invention includes afirst rail 22, asecond rail 24, and athird rail 26 which corresponds to and is movably mounted between thefirst rail 22 and thesecond rail 24. Thethird rail 26 is intended to increase the distance by which thesecond rail 24 can be longitudinally displaced relative to thefirst rail 22. A mountingdevice 28 is mounted to one of the rails of theslide rail assembly 20. Here, the mountingdevice 28 is mounted to an end portion of thesecond rail 24 by way of example. - Referring to
FIG. 3A andFIG. 3B , the mountingdevice 28 in this embodiment of the present invention is releasably assembled to thesecond rail 24. Preferably, thesecond rail 24 includes afirst wall 30, asecond wall 32 located opposite thefirst wall 30, and a connectingwall 34 extending and connected between thefirst wall 30 and thesecond wall 32. Thefirst wall 30, thesecond wall 32, and the connectingwall 34 jointly define a mountingopening 36. A releasingopening 38 and awindow 40 are provided at appropriate parts of thesecond rail 24 respectively. For instance and without limitation, the releasingopening 38 can be adjacent to thefirst wall 30, and thewindow 40 can be located at the connectingwall 34. A blockingportion 42 is provided adjacent to thewindow 40. At least one supportingportion 44 is connected to one of thefirst wall 30 and thesecond wall 32 and is bent toward the mountingopening 36. Here, each of thefirst wall 30 and thesecond wall 32 is connected with a supportingportion 44 by way of example. In a preferred embodiment, the mountingdevice 28 includes a mountingmember 46, anelastic member 48, an engagingportion 50, an operatingportion 52, aflexible portion 54, at least one pressingportion 58, and acushioning portion 60. The mountingmember 46 can be correspondingly mounted to the mountingopening 36 of thesecond rail 24. Theelastic member 48 is elastically connected to the mountingmember 46. The engagingportion 50 is connected to an appropriate part of theelastic member 48. In this embodiment, the engagingportion 50 is connected to a lateral side of theelastic member 48, but the present invention imposes no limitations in this regard. The operatingportion 52 is connected to theelastic member 48 and, in this embodiment, is generally perpendicularly connected to theelastic member 48. Theflexible portion 54 has one end substantially connected to a central part of the mountingmember 46 such that theflexible portion 54 stands slantingly on the mountingmember 46. Theflexible portion 54 can be correspondingly mounted in thewindow 40 of thesecond rail 24. In addition, theflexible portion 54 includes a recessedsection 56 to be correspondingly engaged with the blockingportion 42 of thesecond rail 24. The at least one pressingportion 58 can be pressed against one of the supportingportions 44 of thesecond rail 24 so that the mountingdevice 28 is mounted securely to thesecond rail 24. The cushioningportion 60 is elastically connected to the mountingmember 46. - Referring to
FIG. 4A to FIG, 4D, when it is desired to mount the mountingdevice 28 to thesecond rail 24, the operator applies a force F to and thereby presses theelastic member 48 such that theelastic member 48 is elastically displaced toward the mountingmember 46 and stores an elastic force. Accordingly, the mountingdevice 28 is moved in a first direction D1 into the mountingopening 36 of thesecond rail 24. Once theelastic member 48 releases the elastic force, the engagingportion 50 connected to theelastic member 48 correspondingly juts out of the releasingopening 38 and engages with a blockingwall 39 adjacent to the releasingopening 38 of thesecond rail 24. Consequently, the engagingportion 50 is blocked by the blockingwall 39 and is thus mounted in the releasingopening 38 of thesecond rail 24. - The process of mounting the mounting
device 28 to thesecond rail 24 is illustrated again inFIG. 5A toFIG. 5C as viewed from a different angle. In the course in which the mountingdevice 28 is moved in the first direction DI into the mountingopening 36 following depression of theelastic member 48 or the operatingportion 52 of the mountingdevice 28, theflexible portion 54 of the mountingdevice 28 is slightly pressed by a portion of the second rail 24 (seeFIG. 5B ) and is thereby held horizontal. Once the mountingdevice 28 enters the mountingopening 36 completely (seeFIG. 5C ), theflexible portion 54 of the mountingdevice 28 is correspondingly mounted in thewindow 40 of thesecond rail 24. With the recessedsection 56 of theflexible portion 54 pressed against the blockingportion 42 of thesecond rail 24, theflexible portion 54 will not protrude from thewindow 40 while mounted therein. Thus, theflexible portion 54 and its recessedsection 56 allow the mountingdevice 28 to be mounted securely to thesecond rail 24. -
FIG. 6A shows the state in which the mountingdevice 28 is mounted to thesecond rail 24, andFIG. 6B shows how to disengage the mountingdevice 28 from thesecond rail 24. When it is desired to detach the mountingdevice 28 from thesecond rail 24, the operator applies a force Fl to and thereby presses the operatingportion 52 of the mountingdevice 28 such that the engagingportion 50 of the mountingdevice 28 is disengaged from the blockingwall 39 of the releasingopening 38. On the other hand, the operator applies another force F2 and thereby presses theflexible portion 54 of the mountingdevice 28 to disengage theflexible portion 54 from thewindow 40. Accordingly, the mountingdevice 28 can be moved in a second direction, which is opposite the first direction Dl, so as to be detached from thesecond rail 24. - Referring to
FIG. 7 andFIG. 8 , thesecond rail 24 of theslide rail assembly 20 can be mounted with a to-be-supported object (an intended object) 62 in order to support the to-be-supported object 62. As shown inFIG. 7 , a pair ofslide rail assemblies 20 jointly support the to-be-supported object 62, and thesecond rail 24 and thethird rail 26 of eachslide rail assembly 20 have been longitudinally displaced relative to the correspondingfirst rail 22 and are therefore in an extended state relative to the correspondingfirst rail 22. More specifically, as shown inFIG. 8 , thesecond rail 24 of eachslide rail assembly 20 further includes afastening portion 64 and afastening groove 66, and each lateral side of the to-be-supported object 62 includes acontact portion 68 and apositioning portion 70. Thecontact portion 68 can be correspondingly mounted to thefastening groove 66 of the correspondingsecond rail 24 and secured by thecorresponding fastening portion 64, while thepositioning portion 70 is correspondingly mounted to the engagingportion 50 of the corresponding mountingdevice 28. - Referring to
FIG. 9A toFIG. 9C , when it is desired to mount the to-be-supported object 62 to thesecond rail 24, the operator moves the to-be-supported object 62 in a direction D until the to-be-supported object 62 is correspondingly mounted to thefastening portion 64 of thesecond rail 24. Once the to-be-supported object 62 is mounted to and fixed in position with respect to thesecond rail 24, the engagingportion 50 of the mountingdevice 28 is correspondingly engaged with thepositioning portion 70 of the to-be-supported object 62. Moreover, once the to-be-supported object 62 is mounted to and fixed in position with respect to thesecond rail 24, the cushioningportion 60 of the mountingdevice 28 is elastically pressed against a portion of the to-be-supported object 62 and thus produces a cushioning effect on the to-be-supported object 62. When the overall length of the to-be-supported object 62 is less than the overall length of thesecond rail 24, the difference in length, if within the allowable dimensional tolerance, can be compensated for by elastic contraction of theelastic cushioning portion 60 so that the to-be-supported object 62 can be mounted to thesecond rail 24 with success. - While the present invention has been disclosed herein by way of the foregoing preferred embodiments, the embodiments are not intended to be restrictive of the present invention. The scope of patent protection sought is defined by the appended claims.
