  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention is a collection of items comprising a kit to make a gift basket and is intended to be used as a retail product. The items comprising this kit consist of a custom designed basket made of paperboard, which is a type of compressed cardboard. There are two unique aspects of this basket. The basket contains a gift card that is built-into and located in the center of the basket's front wall. This gift-card feature is produced by a custom die cut during manufacture. Also, the paperboard basket can collapse and be folded flat into a compact item for retail packaging. The gift card is accompanied by a clear cellophane bag specially fitted to conform to the shape of the paperboard basket and a colorful satin, polyester bow. These four items are packaged together inside a dear bag and presented as a kit. When removed from their packaging and assembled, these items create a paperboard gift basket. This kit is unique in that there is no product packaged with these specific items together, especially noting the basket with built-in gift card, and that there is no kit of items that work in the same manner of these items. hen assembled. It solves the problem of the lack of a way to make a gift basket in an easy and time efficient manner. This kit provides an all-in-one, easy and quick way to create a gift basket.
  • Traditionally, gift baskets are comprised of a straw basket or plastic or metal container which, in turn, is placed inside a dear plastic bag or plastic wrap with the addition of a ribbon to tie the bag off. A gift card is typically tied on the outside. It can be difficult to make a gift basket in this manner because the straw basket and/or other container tend to be bulky and heavy. In addition, when creating these baskets, a consumer needs to hunt and find each of the items needed for the basket separately. When shopping, consumers need to search for and find a straw basket or other container, then find a dear plastic bag or plastic wrap, then find a bow or ribbon, and finally a gift card. Finding all these items separately is time consuming and can be difficult. This invention provides a solution by providing all items needed to create a gift basket in one single, packaged kit.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention is a kit comprised of a collection of items for making a custom, collapsible paperboard gift basket. This kit is intended to be used as a retail product. The items comprising this kit consist of a custom designed basket FIG. 1 to FIG. 2 made of paperboard—a type of compressed cardboard—that can collapse and fold flat for packaging, a custom gift card FIG. 3 to FIG. 3A matching the exterior printed design of the paperboard basket, a dear cellophane bag FIG. 4 specially fitted to conform to the shape of the paperboard basket, and a satin, polyester bow FIG. 5. These four items are packaged together inside a clear bag and presented as a kit. When removed from their packaging and assembled, these items create a paperboard gift basket.
  • This kit is unique in that there is no product packaged with these specific items together and that there is no kit of items that work in the same manner of these items when assembled. The unique aspect of the items and kit are explained below.
  • The paperboard basket FIG. 1 is the main piece of this kit. The basket is made of sturdy, compressed cardboard that is shaped as a box-like tray and contains four paperboard walls; left, right and font and back walls. These walls have a fold along each edge that facilitates the collapsing feature of the basket. The basket can be folded compactly FIG. 8 and, when needed, be fully expanded. In addition, further establishing its uniqueness, the basket has a built-in gift card positioned in the center of its front wall. This gift card is created by a special die-cut during manufacture. Specifically, it is a paperboard box with a custom, built-in gift card that can be collapsed, folded flat and then be opened as a single unit.
  • When collapsing the paperboard basket, there is a bottom portion FIG. 6 that serves as the baskets bottom floor. This bottom portion folds into the main structure FIG. 7 of the basket and becomes hidden within the basket when collapsed.
  • The gift card and paperboard basket begin as one piece FIG. 1—with the gift card being built into the front wall FIG. 9 of the basket—therefore, the gift card shares the property of the basket; being made of paperboard. The gift card can be detached FIG. 10 from the basket and used as a separate item. The gift card, residing in the front wall of the basket, is created by a special die cut during manufacture. This die cut creates a series of small holes or perforations that allow the gift card to be easily removed from the basket's front wall. Once removed, it serves as a card which can be written on and tied to the basket after it is assembled.
  • The cellophane bag FIG. 4 in this kit is clear, made of a water resistant polypropylene material and is a type of gusset bag. The folds FIG. 11 on the sides of the bag create and define a gusset; a side pleat running vertically, top to bottom, along the bag. The 2.5″ gussets FIG. 11A occur on both the left and right sides and allow the bag to expand to accommodate the paperboard basket when placed inside. Standard cellophane bags are flat, have no gussets and do not allow for side expansion. Along with its gusset feature, this cellophane bag is specially sized to fit the paperboard basket FIG. 12. The paperboard basket is 8.5″ across (from left to right) 2A by 7″ deep (from front to back) 2B. The cellophane bag is 9.65″ across 4A by 8.35″ deep 4B. This allows room for the basket while forming a square shape around the basket. There are currently no standard, gusseted bags with these measurements. This bag is custom sized to fit the paperboard basket. When prepared for packaging, the cellophane bag is manually folded FIG. 13.
  • The bow FIG. 5 is a single piece of polyester ribbon with a satin-like finish coming in various colors. It measures 13″ in length. It is tied onto and used as a decorative element when assembling the final gift basket.
  • The packaging bag FIG. 14 will contain all pieces of the kit. It is made of a clear, water resistant, polypropylene material. It measures 6″ across×15″ in height and includes a top head portion. This head portion contains a die cut hole which serves as a means to hang the bag for display. This head portion can vary in height dependent upon various production mechanisms.
  • All pieces collected together FIG. 15; the collapsible paperboard basket 15A with its built-in gift card 15B, the specially fitted cellophane bag 15C and polyester bow 15D are packaged into a single, clear polypropylene bag for retail sale.
  • When assembled, the final gift basket uses all items completely and is depicted here FIG. 16. This comprises the kit and is the invention. All the elements described explain the uniqueness, purpose, use and function of my invention.
