Description

    TECHNICAL FIELD
  • The present invention relates to a jigsaw puzzle toy, and more particularly, to a puzzle toy of which a structure is improved to notify a user of information on the puzzle toy by detecting the assembly success/failure of the puzzle toy and a type of the assembled puzzle upon the assembly success of the puzzle toy.
  • BACKGROUND ART
  • In general, when a user plays with a picture or character puzzle play tool, the user constructs a completed picture or character in which pictures or characters drawn on individual puzzle pieces fit corresponding locations by arranging a puzzle piece set including a plurality of puzzle pieces in a main body such as a board. Conventionally, there exist puzzle play tools having a function of notifying a user of puzzle completion when puzzle pieces are completely assembled. However, a material having electrical conductivity is installed in each puzzle piece as a means for detecting the assembly success of a puzzle toy, and when all puzzle pieces are completely assembled at designated locations, one electrical transfer path is formed. Thus, when an electrical signal generated from one end of the electrical transfer path arrives at the other end thereof via the electrical transfer path, it is admitted that the puzzle play tool is successfully assembled. As such, there is implemented a function of audibly notifying a user of the assembly success of a puzzle toy if electricity is supplied from one end of one electrical transfer path and the electricity passing through the electrical transfer path installed in all puzzle pieces is detected at the other end of the electrical transfer path when it is determined that the puzzle play tool is completely assembled. A representative example of the prior art having the function is disclosed in Korean Utility Model Registration No. 0270724 (puzzle postcard or card outputting melody or voice).
  • However, such a puzzle play tool has a problem in that one electrical transfer path is actually cut off when discontinuity occurs between puzzle pieces due to the electrical transfer path having electrical conductivity, which is included in a set of puzzle pieces as a core component for detecting an assembly success state, and thus has a problem in that the assembly success is not properly notified since electricity is not properly transferred from one end to the other end even when the puzzle play tool is successfully assembled. In addition, when infants or children play with the puzzle play tool, the electrical transfer path installed in the puzzle pieces may be damaged or cause the users to receive an electric shock due to water, saliva, or the like.
  • To improve these problems, Korean Patent No. 0854491 replaces the electrical transfer path with an optical transfer path using light to guarantee a stable function and remove the hazard of an electrocution accident.
  • In such conventional puzzle toys, one puzzle set is assembled with one main body. Thus, since a new main body should be produced for each puzzle set, the manufacturing cost is high. However, Korean Patent No. 0854491 discloses a structure in which a plurality of puzzle sets is assembled with a single main body by arranging a plurality of light-receiving sensors at different locations. However, since the structure disclosed in Korean Patent No. 0854491 should provide an optical transfer path in puzzle pieces, the manufacturing cost of each puzzle set increases, thereby increasing the entire manufacturing cost of a puzzle toy.

  • BEST MODE
  • A first embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  • FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a puzzle toy 10 according to a first embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a system block diagram of the puzzle toy 10 of FIG. 1, according to the first embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 3 illustrates a rear surface structure of a piece set 20 in the puzzle toy 10 of FIG. 1, according to the first embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 4 is a table for schematically showing functions of a feedback call unit 37 and a feedback processing unit 38 to correspond to types of piece sets in a puzzle toy, according to the first embodiment of the present invention.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 to 4, the puzzle toy 10 according to the first embodiment of the present invention includes a piece set 20 and a main body 30.
  • The piece set 20 includes a plurality of component pieces 22. The number of piece sets 20 is plural. The current embodiment illustrates one of concrete implementation forms of the present invention with an example of a puzzle play tool being widely used as the puzzle toy 10. The piece set 20 corresponds to the puzzle piece set introduced in the background art, and the plurality of component pieces 22 corresponds to the puzzle pieces forming the puzzle piece set. As such, when the component pieces 22 are arranged at their designated locations, one completed picture or character is formed, and the concept of the piece set 20 is not different from the widely known conventional puzzle play tools. Thus, the piece set 20 includes the plurality of component pieces 22. In addition, the piece set 20 is accommodated in the main body 30 described below. That is, the piece set 20 is accommodated in the main body 30 to fit the main body 30 in an assembly completion state.
  • Lattice arrangement is formed on the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22. The plurality of component pieces 22 forms one piece set 20 by being well assembled with each other. In addition, a plurality of lattices 26 are formed on the rear surface of each of the component pieces 22. Although each of the plurality of lattices 26 has a perfect square shape in the current embodiment, the shape of each lattice 26 may be a rectangle, a circle, a honeycomb, or the like besides a perfect square.
  • Each lattice 26 is formed by a film 24 colored with a lattice pattern, which is attached to the rear surface of each corresponding component piece 22. The lattice 26 may be formed by a sheet of paper colored with a lattice pattern, which is attached to the rear surface of each corresponding component piece 22. The lattices 26 may be formed in one lattice pattern when the piece set 20 is produced, attached to the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22, and cut and divided to each of the component pieces 22.
  • The lattices 26 are colored white or black. The lattices 26 form an arrangement of white colors and black colors. Thus, when one lattice 26 is white, the lattice 26 may correspond to a value 0, and when one lattice 26 is black, the lattice 26 may correspond to a value 1. That is, each lattice 26 may correspond to a value corresponding to 0 or 1 according to a color of the lattice 26. In this case, the component pieces 22 form a binary-number arrangement on the rear surfaces thereof. The binary-number arrangement formed on the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22 may be defined by a unique address or name. When all the component pieces 22 are assembled and form the completed piece set 20, a unique address or name of the piece set 20 may be replaced by a binary number defined by the arrangement of the lattices 26. The arrangement of the lattices 26 replaced by a binary number is a core component of the present invention. FIG. 3 schematically shows an arrangement pattern of the lattices 26 of the piece set 20, according to the current embodiment. A unique number (identification (ID)) of the piece set 20 corresponding to FIG. 3 may be defined by, for example, 0101101101100010, which is 23394 as a decimal number.
  • The main body 30 has a space for accommodating the component pieces 22. A plurality of pairs of light-emitting devices 32 and light-receiving devices 34 is arranged on the bottom of the space included in the main body 30. The light-emitting devices 32 are arranged to correspond to the respective lattices of each of the component pieces 22. Each of the light-emitting devices 32 is a device for emitting light. An energy supply source, such as a battery, for the light-emitting devices 32 to emit light may be installed inside or outside the main body 30. The light-emitting devices 32 emit light towards the lattices 26. For example, a light-emitting diode(LED) may be employed for the light-emitting devices 32. The light-receiving devices 34 detect light reflected by the lattices 26 from among the light emitted by the light-emitting devices 32. The intensity of light detected by each of the light-receiving devices 34 varies according to a color of a corresponding lattice 26. That is, the intensity of light reflected by a white lattice 26 and detected by a light-receiving device 34 is greater than the intensity of light reflected by a black lattice 26 and detected by a light-receiving device 34. Thus, since the intensity of light detected by a light-receiving device 34 varies according to a color of a corresponding lattice 26, a color of each lattice 25 may be identified using a corresponding pair of light-emitting device 32 and light-receiving device 34. Since each of the light-receiving device 34 may employ a well-known optical sensor, a detailed description of a structure of the light-receiving device 34 is omitted.
  • In addition, the main body 30 includes a signal analyzer 36, a feedback call unit 37, and a feedback processing unit 38.
  • The signal analyzer 36 is electrically connected to the light-receiving devices 34. The signal analyzer 36 determines a color of each lattice 26 by a signal detected by a corresponding light-receiving device 34. In addition, the signal analyzer 36 generates an output signal for the lattice 26. For example, the signal analyzer 36 defines a unique number (ID) of the lattice 26 by defining 0 when a color of the lattice 26 is white and 1 when the color of the lattice 26 is black. FIG. 4 illustrates unique numbers (IDs) of the completed piece set 20.
  • The feedback call unit 37 is electrically connected to the signal analyzer 36. The feedback call unit 37 analyzes the output signal of each lattice 26, which is received from the signal analyzer 36. That is, the feedback call unit 37 recognizes an arrangement of the lattices 26 formed on the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22, i.e., recognizes an arrangement of the lattices 26 of the piece set 20 completed by assembling the component pieces 22. Thus, the feedback call unit 37 determines whether the piece set 20 is completely assembled and a type of the piece set 20 upon assembly completion of the piece set 20. Data regarding types of the piece set 20 is stored in a memory included in the main body 30 in a database form.
  • The feedback processing unit 38 is electrically connected to the feedback call unit 37. The feedback processing unit 38 outputs information regarding the completed piece set 20 by a signal received from the feedback call unit 37. The information regarding the piece set 20, which is output by the feedback processing unit 38, may be output in the form of audio or video. In the current embodiment, the information output by the feedback processing unit 38 is output as audio through a speaker 40 and video through a display 45. For example, if the piece set 20 relates to a tiger, a cry of the tiger is output through the speaker 40, and a tiger image is output through the display 45. A call address and call information corresponding to each other according to signal processing performed between the feedback call unit 37 and the feedback processing unit 38 may be mapped to each other as shown in FIG. 4.
  • As described above, the puzzle toy 10 may output proper information by recognizing colors of the lattices 26 formed on the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22, converting the recognized colors to digits, and comparing an arrangement of the digits with the pre-stored data to determine whether the piece set 20 is completely assembled and recognize a type of the piece set 20.
  • An operation of the puzzle toy 10 including the above-described components will now be described in detail.
  • First, the description starts from a state where the piece set 20 is completely broken down to the component pieces 22.
  • When a user desires to assemble the piece set 20 of the puzzle toy 10, the user starts to assemble the component pieces 22 in a state where power is supplied to the light-emitting devices 32 and the light-receiving devices 34 in the main body 30 or is not supplied thereto using a switch.
  • The user properly arranges the component pieces 22 in the main body 30. That is, the user arranges the component pieces 22 at their designated locations. When the component pieces 22 are arranged at their designated locations, light emitted by the light-emitting devices 32 is reflected by the lattices 26 formed on the component pieces 22 and incident to the light-receiving devices 34. Since the light-receiving devices 34 detect the different intensity of light according to colors of the lattices 26, the colors of the lattices 26 may be identified. A signal detected by each of the light-receiving devices 34 is transmitted to the signal analyzer 36. The signal analyzer 36 allocates 0 when a color of each lattice 26 is white and 1 when a color of each lattice 26 is black. In this case, since a color of a portion in which the component pieces 22 are not assembled yet is neither white nor black, light emitted by corresponding light-emitting devices 32 is hardly incident to corresponding light-receiving devices 34. Thus, the signal analyzer 36 may recognize that the component pieces 22 have not been completely assembled.
  • When the component pieces 22 are completely arranged at their designated locations, the component pieces 22 form one complete picture or character. In this case, the signal analyzer 36 obtains a binary-number arrangement of the entire piece set 20 achieved by the component pieces 22. The feedback call unit 37 compares the binary-number arrangement with the data related to the types of the piece set 20, which is pre-stored in the memory, to determine a type of the piece set 20 and the assembly success/failure of the piece set 20. In response to a signal transmitted from the feedback call unit 37, the feedback processing unit 38 calls information regarding the completed piece set 20 and outputs the information through the speaker 40 and the display 45.
  • In this process, cases of the binary-number arrangement of the piece set 20, which is obtained by the signal analyzer 36 are as follows. That is, based on the current embodiment, each component piece 22 includes four lattices 26, and the piece set 20 includes four component pieces 22. In addition, since one lattice 26 is allocated a value of 0 or 1, each component piece 22 has 24=16 cases, and since each of the four component pieces 22 can independently have 16 values, 164=65536 types of piece sets 20 may be formed. That is, when the number of lattices 26 is n, the number of cases in which the component piece 22 is formed is 2n. As described above, the puzzle toy 10 according to the present invention may assemble a close enough to infinite number of piece sets 20 in one main body 30. In addition, since an arrangement of the lattices 26 can be recognized by the light-emitting devices 32 and the light-receiving devices 34, whether the piece set 20 is completely assembled and a type of the piece set 20 may be very efficiently and simply recognized. Thus, since the main body 30 does not have to be separately manufactured depending on the piece set, the purchase price of the main body 30 is considerably saved in the view of users. In addition, in the view of a manufacturer or sellers, since a separate medium, such as an electrical transfer path or an optical transfer path, does not have to be installed in each component piece 22 to detect the assembly success/failure of the piece set 20 unlike the prior art, the manufacturing cost of the piece sets 20 may be considerably reduced.
  • In addition, since a structure of devices for recognizing whether the component pieces 22 are arranged at their designated locations is simple as an arrangement of the lattices 26, the light-emitting devices 32, and the light-receiving devices 34 as described above, durability of the puzzle toy 10 is remarkably improved.
  • Although it is described in the first embodiment that the piece set 20 includes the plurality of component pieces 22, the piece set 20 may include one component piece 22 in a certain case. In this case, the component piece 22 may employ, for example, a flash card. The flash card is a card having the meaning of turning over and viewing something as quickly as light, i.e., a card on which a figure or picture used to train discrimination of infants or teach the infants new information is printed. For example, a picture, such as an apple or a tiger, may be printed on the front surface of the flash card. In addition, the flash card is a component corresponding to the piece set 20 of the first embodiment. By forming a plurality of lattices on the rear surface of the flash card and outputting, by the feedback processing unit 38, information on whether the flash card is assembled with an accommodation section 31 included in the main body 30 and information corresponding to the flash card upon the assembly completion of the flash card, the same operational effect as the first embodiment can be obtained.
  • A second embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6.
  • FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view of a puzzle toy 10 a according to the second embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 6 illustrates a rear surface structure of a piece set 20 in the puzzle toy 10 a of FIG. 5, according to the second embodiment of the present invention.
  • Referring to FIGS. 5 and 6, in the second embodiment of the present invention, the puzzle toy 10 a having a somewhat different structure from the puzzle toy 10 described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4 is illustrated.
  • The puzzle toy 10 a includes a piece set 20 and a main body 30 a. The piece set 20 includes a puzzle board 21 and a plurality of component pieces 22.
  • Compared with the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 4, the puzzle board 21 is an additional component. That is, the puzzle board 21 is detachably accommodated in the main body 30 a. The puzzle board 21 includes accommodation sections 21 a having shapes respectively corresponding to the appearances of the component pieces 22 so that each accommodation section 21 a can accommodate any one of the component pieces 22. That is, an assembly of the puzzle board 21 and the component pieces 22 corresponds to the piece set 20 shown in FIGS. 1 to 4. A plurality of lattices 26 for identifying types of the puzzle board 21 is formed on the rear surface of the puzzle board 21. In addition, a plurality of lattices 26 for detecting whether each component piece 22 is assembled is formed on the rear surface of the component piece 22. In addition, the main body 30 a includes light-emitting devices 32 and light-receiving devices 34 respectively corresponding to the lattices 26 formed on the rear surface of the puzzle board 21 and the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22. As described above, the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 is different from the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 in that the piece set 20 includes the puzzle board 21 and the component pieces 22. The light-emitting devices 32 and the light-receiving devices 34 included in the main body 30 a perform the same function as the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 except for their different arrangement.
  • The main body 30 a also includes the signal analyzer 36, the feedback call unit 37, the feedback processing unit 38, and a language selection switch 47.
  • The signal analyzer 36 determines colors of the lattices 26 by signals detected by the light-receiving devices 34 and generates output signals for the lattices 26.
  • The feedback call unit 37 determines a type of the piece set 20 by analyzing signals detected from the puzzle board 21 from among the output signals for the lattices 26, which are received from the signal analyzer 36, and calls information regarding the component piece 22 by recognizing an arrangement of the lattices 26, which is detected from the component piece 22.
  • The feedback processing unit 38 outputs information regarding the component piece 22 in response to a signal received from the feedback call unit 37.
  • The language selection switch 47 selects a language, e.g., any one of Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, and Spanish, to be output by the feedback call unit 37.
  • The puzzle toy 10 shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 has a structure in which, when all the component pieces 22 are completely assembled, a type of the piece set 20 formed by the component pieces 22 is recognized from a lattice arrangement formed on the rear surfaces of the component pieces 22, and information regarding the type of the piece set 20 is output. The language selection switch 47 may also be added to the first embodiment.
  • The puzzle toy 10 a shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 has a structure in which a type of the piece set 20 is recognized from a lattice arrangement formed on the rear surface of the puzzle board 21, and information regarding each component piece 22 is recognized from a lattice arrangement formed on the rear surface of the component piece 22 and output.
  • Thus, the above-described embodiments have the technical commonness in that a type of the piece set 20 is recognized from an arrangement of lattices 26 formed on the rear surface of the piece set 20. For a part not described in detail in the second embodiment, the description in the first embodiment is referred to.
  • Although it is described in the second embodiment that a plurality of lattices 26 are formed on the rear surface of each component piece 22, when a shape of the accommodation section 21 a with which the component pieces 22 are assembled is formed to be assembled only with a specific component piece 22, even though one lattice 26 is formed on the rear surface of each component piece 22, the purpose of the present invention may be achieved.
