Claims.

This invention relates to certain novel improvements in pressing machines and has for its principal object-the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be high- 5 .ly efficient inuse and economical in manufacture.

In the art of pressing garments, particularly mens coats, it is the customary practice toplace upon the buck the edge portion of the coat to 11 be pressed while suspending the remaining portion from the buck and thereafter after the edge portion of the coat has been pressed, the coat is reversed and the opposite edge portion of the coat is then placed upon the buck for the press- This method requires that the operator reverse the coat for the purposes herein stated and consequently consumes labor and time.

One of the'many objects of my invention is to provide a pressing machine wherein the portions of the coat may be pressed simultaneously without requiring the reversal operation hereinbefore indicated.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:

. in which the preferred form of construction of my invention is illustrated, a pressing machine is indicated generally at Ill andthis machine includes the usual supporting standards ll. Upon these standards is supported the present buck l2 which may be constructed of any suitable material which will best serve the purpose.

The standards I l preferably provide a supporting lug l3 which pivotally supports a rocker arm l4 manually operated through the medium of an operating link l5 in a manner well known in the art.

The rocker arm 14 supports a pressing head IE adapted to be brought down upon the buck l2 during the pressing operation.

The pressing head I6 is of a construction well known in the art including the conduits ll for the admission of steam or the like to the interior thereof. Likewise the pressing buck I2 is provided with means in the form of conduits for the admission of air under pressure to the interior thereof for reasons well known in the art.

The pressing buck I2 is provided with an elon- 5 gated coat receiving slot or recess l8, one end of which terminates in a transversely extending slot or recess l9 which for convenience I prefer to term the coat collar receiving recess.

As shown in the drawing the opposite ends IQ of the coat collar recess or slot l9 extend beyond the longitudinal edges 2| of the coat receiving recess IS. The purpose of this construction is to permit the collar to be conveniently disposed in this recess or slot I9 without wrinkling or buckling the edge portions 22 of the coat disposed upon the buck H! for the pressing operation.

' In use, to press a coat, the major medial portion of the same is disposed through the slot or recess I8 with the neck or collar portion 21 of the coat confined in the recess or slot I9. In this position of the coat the edge portions 20 are mounted upon the buck l2 inposition for the pressing operation by the cooperation of the 25 buck l2 and the pressing head l6.

This construction of the buck permits the operator to press the edge portions of the coat simultaneously and, if desired, both ends of the slot or recess I 8 may terminate in coat collar 30 receiving recesses for obvious purposes.

To facilitate supporting the coat with the edge portions 22 in pressing position upon the buck I2 I preferably mount beneath the buck a supporting shelf 25 supported from the standards II by any suitable means, such for example, lugs 26. This supporting shelf will receive the weight of the coat and thereby serve to prevent the same from sagging through the slots by virtue of its own weight.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. 50

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A pressing machine comprising a pressing head, and a pressing buck, the said buck being 5 provided with a coat receiving slot with the slot terminating in a collar receiving recess.

2. A pressing machine comprising a pressing head, and a pressing buck with the said buck provided with intercommunicating slots or recesses for the reception of portions of a garment while other portions of the garment are disposed in pressing relation with respect to the head and buck.

3. A pressing machine comprising a pressing head, and a pressing buck, the said buck being provided with a coat receiving slot with the slot terminating in a collar receiving recess; and a supporting shelf for a coat which may be projected through said slot.

4. A pressing machine comprising a pressing head, and a pressing buck with the said buck provided with intercommunicating slots or recesses for the reception of portions of a garment while other portions of the garment are disposed in pressing relation with respect to the head and buck; and a supporting shelf beneath said slots for receiving the weight of said garment.

5. A pressing machine comprising a supporting frame, a pressing head pivotally supported by the frame, a pressing buck supported by the frame in pressing relation with respect to the head and having a slot or recess formed therein for the passage of portions of a garment While other portions of the garment are disposed in pressing position upon the buck on opposite sides of said slot.
