v This invention relates to locks and in particu- ;lar to a lock adapted, to be'easily'disassembled to vhave its combination changed or' a new lock casing having a'difierent combination substituted. An object of the invention is to. provide a'lock incorporated with a knob and shank which may quickly disassembled bythe introduction of a special key within the usual keyv slot in a plug.
Itis. another object of the invention to provide a special interlocking or interengaging mem-'- ber movable to engaged and disengaged position by rotation of theplug to hold the-knob' and shank togetheriorpermit their separation, this I interlocking member being operated by a special key.

Fig. 1 shows the method of operating the lock in the usual manner. It will be noted that the ordinary or pass key l5 inserted within the plug is not long enough to affect the tumbler 16in the innermost recess. This tumbler and its driver I1, it will be noted, pass through the plug and sleeve so that in the position of the driver I! shown in Fig. 1 the sleeve is prevented from rotating relative to the lock casing. The-plug, however, is free to turn in the usual manner. These positions of the tumbler l6 and driver I1 are maintained so long as the knob and hollow spindle 5 are locked together by the lugs l3 en-- I gaging. within. the recesses. In order to lift the innermost tumblerso-that the sleeve will be free to rotate relative to thelock casing and compelled to rotate with the plug a special key I8 is reguired, shown in Fig. 2. tumblers may be reset soas to provide a different combination and then replaced or a new cylinder or other lock mechanism having a different combination may replace the old one just Withdrawn. The parts may then be reassembled in the inverse order of disassembly as described.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character indicated, a knob supporting hollow spindle, aknob said knob and spindle having integral in'terfltting" axially extending" lugs 'to prevent relative rotation of said knob and'spindle, said lugs being provided with internal annular grooves registering with each other, said knob having an opening at the rear to receive a lock mechanism, a lock mechanism in said knob and'key operable means associated with said lock mechanism and including an annular interrupted lug means to bereceived in the annular registering grooves in the lugs on said spindle and knob for locking said knob and spindle together.
