Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/344,069, filed May 17, 2010.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention generally relates to sports apparel, and particularly to sports heritage clothing having indicia disposed thereon relating to certain famous or favorite players of a particular team.
  • 2. Description of the Related Art
  • Many sports fans are interested in acquiring and wearing apparel that is emblematic of their favorite team(s). Such apparel is even more desirous if the apparel bears the name or number of a famous or favorite player currently or formerly with the team. Conventionally, each apparel item only includes a team logo and the name or number of one particular player, who is usually currently on the team's roster. Apparel that had indicia thereon that related to more than one player, who are not necessarily current but are some of the all-time greats or favorites, would certainly pique fan curiosity and encourage conversations relating to team history. Thus, sports heritage apparel solving the aforementioned problems is desired.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The sports heritage clothing has desired indicia displayed thereon. The clothing can take the form of any apparel currently purchased and worn by the many sports fans throughout the world. Caps, jackets, jerseys, headbands, wristbands, etc., all can be adorned with the desired indicia. The indicia would include the logo of a preferred team and the numbers of two or more of the team's favorite and/or most revered players. For example, a New York Yankee fan might want a baseball cap with the team logo thereon, along with the numbers of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle. Another Yankee fan would want a jacket having the team logo and the numbers of Yogi Berra, Derek jeter and Whitey Ford. A Los Angeles Laker jersey would display the team logo and the numbers of Kobe Bryant, Jerry West and Magic Johnson. A Laker wristband would have the numbers of Kareem Jabbar, James Worthy and Elgin Baylor (the combinations are endless). The same system is applicable to any team sport (soccer, hockey, football, rugby, etc.). Although numbers are emphasized herein, it should be recognized that names or visual likenesses are adaptable to the sports heritage clothing.
  • Accordingly, the invention presents a sports apparel adornment system that would arouse the kind of fan activity that would encourage discussion as to the history of a team and would certainly be of promotional value to the team. Such activity would lead to the purchase of more team paraphernalia and an increase in team revenue. The invention provides for improved elements thereof in an arrangement for the purposes described that are inexpensive, dependable and fully effective in accomplishing their intended purposes.
  • These and other features of the present invention will become readily apparent upon further review of the following specification and drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a rear view of an exemplary article of sports heritage clothing according to the present invention comprising a team jacket.
  • FIG. 2 is a rear view of an exemplary article of sports heritage clothing according to the present invention comprising a team jersey.
  • FIG. 3 is a top view of an exemplary article of sports heritage clothing according to the present invention comprising a team cap.
  • Similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the attached drawings.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • Referring to FIGS. 1-3, the sports heritage clothing 10 may comprise any article of clothing associated with a team sport, including, but not limited to, the exemplary jacket 12, jersey 14 and cap 16 shown in the drawings. As discussed above, the apparel can take the form of almost any conventional sports apparel currently available in the marketplace. Each item of apparel will be provided with a team logo or insignia 18 thereon and fabricated in the team's colors. Indicia 20 will be the numbers of famous and favorite members (current and/or former) of the team. Indicia 20 can be secured to the apparel in any convenient manner (woven, sewing, hook and loop fasteners, etc.). The indicia can be inscribed on a patch or decal 22 for removable attachment to the apparel. This scenario would allow a fan to change numbers when desired.
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the following claims.
