In Figure 3 the compression member 33 is shown having the legs 34 and 36 angularly disposed to form a V-shaped channel with respect to each other. The brake beam fulcrum 38 is provided with the head 45 having the straps 42 and 44 angularly disposed with respect to each other, and closely embracing the legs 34 and 36, the head being immovably positioned by means of the dowel 46 received in the aperture 48 and the spaced fingers 50 provided on the fulcrum being adapted to be bent in contact with the melanber 33.
In the construction shown in Figure 4, the compression member 52 is substantially of arcuate shape to form a round bottom channel, and the head 54 of the fulcrum 55 has the strap portion 58 corresponding to the arcuate compression member as before and being provided with the dowel 60 received in the aperture 62 in the compression member, the fulcrum having the fingers 64 provided adjacent the head 54 and adapted to be bent into locking engagement with the compression member.
With the forms of construction shown, it will be appreciated that a simple connection is provided, yet one which is very effective and rugged. There are no wedges or loose parts to be lost and the members are very easily associated or assembled, one with respect to the other, and it is to be understood that I do not wish to be limited by the exact embodiment of the device shown, which is merely by way of illustration and not limitation, as various and other forms of the device will of course be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. A fulcrum member adapted to be assembled with a substantially channel-shaped beam mem her, said fulcrum member having a head adapted to receive and substantially embrace said beam member, said head having fingers on opposite sides thereof at the marginal edges of the opening of the head, said fingers normally being inclined from said head to permit assembly of said mem- 65 bers and being adapted to be bent toward said beam member to engage said beam member to secure said members together.
2. In a brake beam, the combination of a channel-shaped beam member, a fulcrum member having a head adapted to receive said beam member, said head having spaced fingers at the sides thereof extending to engage said beam member to secure said members together.
3. In a, brake beam, the combination of a channel-shaped beam member, a fulcrum member having a head adapted to receive said beam member, said head having spaced-fingers on the outside thereof extending to engage said beam member to secure said members together.
