Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to a hanger for being secured on a cutting tool and for suspending the cutting tool from a suspension device, with the cutting tool having a cylindrical support member provided with a shank at one of its ends and with a free rim at another one of its ends opposite the one of the ends, and with the hanger including a base body, a first holding device for the cutting tool provided at one end region of the base body opposite a suspension opening provided in an opposite end region of the base body and spaced from the first holding device, and a securing device for securing the holding element of the first holding device on the base body.
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art
  • Hangers of the type discussed above serve for presentation of packed or wrapped cutting tools such as, e.g., compass saw or packed sinker at a point of sale. The hanger is hanged on a wall with hooks projecting from the wall and used as a suspension device. The hooks extend through an opening in the holding element.
  • German Publication DE 100 66 060 A1 discloses a hanger for being secured on a cutting tool and for suspending the cutting tool from a suspension device. The cutting tool has a pot-shaped, e.g., a cylindrical support member provided with a shank at one of its ends and with a free rim at another one of its ends opposite the one of the ends. The hanger has a flat base body, a first holding device for the cutting tool provided at one end region of the base body opposite a suspension opening provided in an opposite end region of the base body and spaced from the holding device. The first holding device has a holding element displaceable relative to the base body, and a securing device for securing the holding element on the base body. The securing device includes a truss projecting from the base body and provided with locking knobs on which the holding element is interlocking secured with a possibility of an axial displacement, with the hanger being secured on the cutting tool by the truss projecting through the shank.
  • The drawback of the known hanger consists in that the presentation of the cutting tool is not particularly attractive. In particular, the free rim of the cutting tool, which is usually provided with cutting elements and, thus, forms an important element in presentation of the cutting tool and represent the power characteristic of the cutting tool, is hardly visible in the suspended condition when the known hanger is used.
  • The cutting tools are usually standardized and have, when used for cutting metal, usually a cut depth of about 30 mm and when used for cutting mineral components, a cut depth of about 50 mm. In addition, both types of cutting tools have different diameters that can vary from about 10 mm to 175 mm.
  • In addition to a proper presentation, it is advantageous when the essential features of a product can be easily visualized, and the product is at least partially grasped by the potential customer. This is particularly important for the point of sale where the customer himself/herself selects the product (self service).
  • Commercial hangers for cutting tools, with which the free rim of the cutting tool is visually accessible to the customer in the suspended condition, are known. However, for different types of the cutting tools, a number of correspondingly formed hangers is necessary.
  • Accordingly, an object of the present invention is a hanger for being secured on a cutting tool for suspending the cutting tool from a suspension device in which the above-discussed drawbacks of the known hanger are eliminated and a more attractive presentation of the cutting tool becomes possible.
  • Another object of the invention is a hanger having only a small number of different parts for adapting the hanger to cutting tools of different types and sizes.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • These and other objects of the present invention, which will become apparent hereinafter, are achieved by providing in the hanger of the type described above, a second holding device on the base body for engaging, at least in some regions, around the free rim of the support member of the cutting tool, with the second holding device projecting from a plane of the base body and having a slot-shaped receptacle for receiving the free rim of the support member of the cutting tool.
  • With the hanger according to the present invention, the first holding device holds a first region of the cutting tool and the second holding device holds a second region of the cutting tools opposite the first region. Thus, the hanger, upon being secured to the cutting tool, is secured thereto at two points. Because of displacement of the parts of the hanger relative to each other and their different fixation relative to each other, a number of cutting tools having different diameters can be packed and presented by differently formed hangers for formation of which only a small number of parts is necessary.
  • This insures also an attractive presentation of a packed cutting tool at a point of sale with self-service. This is because, e.g., the free rim of the support member of the cutting tool is close to the customer.
  • For each cut depth, only one type of the base body is necessary and, e.g., with two types of the holding element of the first holding device, a large device of different diameters of cutting tools can be covered. This permits to optimize the costs of packing as only a small number of tools for forming the hanger as a packing, primarily by injection-molding process, from plastics is necessary. The packing component with regard to the product is small, so that a small amount of the packing material waste is produced.
  • Advantageously, at least one elevation for clampingly retaining the cutting tool is provided in the slot-shaped receptacle. The elevation insures that upon insertion of the cutting tool in the slot-shaped receptacle, it is retained by a resulting clamping or frictional connection.
  • Advantageously, there is provided an insert located in the slot-shaped receptacle for engaging, at least in some regions, around the rim of the support member of the cutting tool. The insert forms a protection element that prevents, to a most possible extent, a possible danger of damage upon withdrawal of the cutting tool from the hanger. Advantageously, the insert is at least partially transparent. Thereby, the shape of the free rim of the support member of the cutting tool is visually observable even with a hanger secured on the cutting tool.
  • Advantageously, the holding element of the first holding device has a holding receptacle for holding the cutting tool at least in some regions. This permits to reliably secure the hanger on the cutting tool. E.g., the holding receptacle has sections which engage, e.g., the support member of the cutting tool at least is some regions when the hanger is secured on the cutting tool.
  • It is particularly advantageous when the holding receptacle of the holding element engages the shank of the cutting tool. The holding receptacle, as one attachment point of the hanger, is located at a sufficiently large distance from the attachment point of the second holding device for insuring a sufficiently reliable two-point fixation of the cutting tool. This insures a simple mounting of the hanger and a simple fixation of the hanger on the cutting tool.
  • Advantageously, the holding receptacle of the holding element for holding the shank of the cutting tool has a cross-section that is smaller than a cross-section of the shank. When the holding element is mounted on the shank, the holding receptacle is correspondingly widened and, thus, forms a clamp fixedly secured on the shank. E.g., the holding receptacle has a cross-section that deviates from the corresponding cross-section of the shank. Advantageously, at least the holding receptacle of the holding element of the first holding device is formed of at least partially elastic material that can be easily widened, whereby an easy mounting of the holding element on the cutting tool is possible.
  • Advantageously, the securing device includes means for indication of an unacceptable opening of the hanger. Thereby, both the customer and the seller can clearly see whether the cutting tool is still originally packed. An unacceptable change of the hanger would be apparent to everybody. The indication means includes, e.g., a seal-like element between the base body and the holding element of the first holding device that becomes damaged when the hanger is open. Alternatively, the base body and the holding element are so secured with each other that the connection can be released only by destructing the same.
  • Advantageously, the securing device includes locking means provided on the base body and counter-locking means provided on the holding element of the first holding device and engageable with the locking means. This insures a reliable connection of the base body with the holding element in the assembled condition of the hanger. If the securing device includes opening indication means, advantageously, it is formed by an appropriate shaping of the locking means and/or the counter-locking means. E.g., the locking means and/or counter-locking means are so formed that upon disengagement of the holding element from the base body, the holding element and the base body cannot be connected with each other anymore.
  • Advantageously, the locking means includes a toothing, and the counter-locking means includes a counter-toothing with, optionally, the toothing of the locking means being formed as a saw toothing, and the counter-toothing of the counter-locking means being formed as a counter-saw toothing complementary to the saw-toothing of the locking means. Toothings enable a simple adjustment and interlocking of the holding element and the base body upon their connection with each other. If the securing device includes opening indication means, it is formed by these toothings.
  • Advantageously, there is provided a guide device for guiding the holding element over the base body. This insures a correct joint displacement of parts of the hanger with each other.
  • Advantageously, the guide elements of the guide device are formed as hook-shaped guide elements for laterally engaging around, at least in some regions, one of the first holding element and the base body. This insures a perfect alignment and guidance of parts of the hanger with respect to each other.
  • Advantageously, there is provided, on the base body and/or the holding element, a receptacle for an, advantageously electronic, safety tag that, e.g., generates an alarm upon removal of the cutting tool from the sale location without firstly removal of the security tag, e.g., at a check-out the point of sale.
  • The novel features of the present invention, which are considered as characteristic for the invention, are set forth in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its mode of operation, together with additional advantages and objects thereof, will be best understood from the following detailed description of preferred embodiment, when read with reference to the accompanying drawings.

  • Further, there is provided, on the second side 28 of the base body 22, a guide device 66 for guiding the first holding element 42 over the base body 22. The guide device 66 has, e.g., longitudinally extending rib-shaped guide elements 67, which project from the second side 28 of the base body 22 and extend from one of the end regions in direction of another one of the end regions. The guide device 66 further includes hook-shaped guide elements 68 which likewise project from the second side 68 of the base body 22 and, in the assembled condition of the hanger 21, laterally engage around the holding element 42 of the first holding device 41 at least in some regions.
  • The holding element 42 (see FIGS. 5-7) likewise has a flat base body 46 at an end region of which there is provided a holding receptacle 43 for holding, at least in some regions, the cutting tool 11. The holding receptacle 43 engages the shank 13 of the cutting tool 11. The holding receptacle 43 of the first holding element 42 projects substantially perpendicular from the first side 47 of the base body 46 and has a polygonal cross-section that is smaller than a corresponding, not shown in the drawings, circular cross-section of the shank 13 of the cutting tool 11.
  • On the second side 48 of the base body 46 located opposite the first side 47, there are provided two regions 51 with the saw toothings and which form counter-locking means 52 and form a counter-part of the securing device 61. In the assembled condition of the first holding element 42, the counter-locking means 52 engages the locking means 32 of the base body 22. The toothings of the counter-locking means 52 are so aligned that their flanks, which project substantially perpendicular from the second side 48, extend, as shown in the drawings, downwardly, in direction of the end region with the holding receptacle 43. The regions 51 with the counter-locking means 52 has a substantially greater longitudinal extent L than a longitudinal extent N of the regions 31 with the locking means 32 on the base body 22.
  • In the assembled condition of the hanger 21, the locking means 32 and the counter-locking means 52 are interlocked with each other and are held in this position by the guide device 66 so that they form means that would reliably guarantee an indication of an unacceptable opening of the hanger 21.
  • Further, on the second side 48 of the holding element 42, there is provided a recess 56 for receiving, not shown in the drawings, a preferably electronic safety tag as a theft protection for the cutting tool.
  • Though the present invention was shown and described with references to the preferred embodiment, such is merely illustrative of the present invention and is not to be construed as a limitation thereof and various modifications of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art. It is therefore not intended that the present invention be limited to the disclosed embodiment or details thereof, and the present invention includes all variations and/or alternative embodiments within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
