Abstract

An apparatus for covering for a head rest on a seat with a stretchable portion to secure the apparatus to the head rest. Additionally, the apparatus may comprise an extension of material extending downward from the head rest to cordon the remainder of the seat from the user.
The inventive apparatus may be of a disposable or reusable material, or incorporate padding.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to seat accessories. More particularly, the present invention comprises a head rest cover secured to a head rest either through the implementation of stretchable straps to secure the apparatus to the head rest, or by a pocket to envelop the head rest of the chair thereby creating a barrier between the person and the head rest of the chair. The seat may also be cordoned from the user with an extension of material extending downward from the head rest cover.
  • 2. Description of Related Prior Art
  • Apparati for removeably covering seats exist for the object of protecting the seats against stains. The use of seat covers known in the art. Known seat covers include U.S. Pat. No. 4,383,712; U.S. Pat. No. 6,648,410; U.S. Pat. No. 5,957,528; U.S. Pat. No. 7,066,535, U.S. Pat. No. D264,401, U.S. Pat. No. 6,948,771, and U.S. App. No. 2003/0085598. These devices do not adequately provide for removeable, disposeable head rest cover that protect individuals from germs, dirt, possible lice, and other items that may accumulate on a commercial seats and head rests generally found in airplanes, buses, and movie theaters. Therefore, a need for a head rest cover that is compact to carry and inexpensive enough to be disposeable.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The inventive apparatus comprises an easily installed and removeable cover for a head rest of a seat which is secured to the head rest of a seat. It is therefore an object of the invention to create a barrier between the user and the seat head rest.
  • It is an object of the apparatus to create an inexpensive and disposable head rest cover.
  • It is a further object of the apparatus to cover a portion of the surface of said seat.
  • It is an object of the invention to provide additional cushioning for the head rest of a seat.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an elevated perspective view of a first embodiment of the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a lateral view perspective view of a first embodiment of the invention.
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS AND PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • A complete understanding of this invention can be gained through reference to the drawings in conjunction with a thorough review of the disclosure herein.
  • The inventive device would protect an individual from germs, dirt, possible lice, and other items that may accumulate on a commercial headrest found in buses, airplanes and movie theaters. The inventive device is lightweight and compact in adesign allowing for easy storage, and transportation in pockets, purses, and suitcases.
  • The inventive device may also come in non-disposable forms with therapeutic foam padding. The non-disposable versions of the inventive device would be formed from washable permanent press fabric.
  • The inventive device would be placed over the head rest on commercial seating in planes, trains, buses, rental cars, and movie theaters, and secured in place with elastic incorporated into the head rest portion of the invention.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 is depict a first embodiment of the inventive apparatus. The first embodiment comprises a head rest section 10 with a first lateral side 11, a second lateral side 12, and a front face 13. A first stretchable member is attached vertically along the first lateral side 11 to form a first loop 15. A second stretchable member is vertically attached long the second lateral side 12 to form a second loop 16. The stretchable material is preferably elastic. To cover the entire seat, not soley the head rest, a section of material 19 extends downward from the head rest 10 to cover the remainder of said seat.
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the invention. The second embodiment of the inventive apparatus comprises a head rest section 20 formed into a pocket 22 with a front face 25 and rear face 26 which is slipped over the top of the head rest section of a seat. The head rest pocket is secured to the head rest of the seat with the integration of a stretchable member 21 into the opened end of the pocket of said head rest section.
  • To avoid obstruction of electronics customarily installed on the back of head rests found in airplanes and motor vehicles, it is preferred that the rear face 26 of the head rest pocket is shorter than said front face 25.
  • To cover the entirety of the seat portion where a person sits, it is preferred that a section of material extends downward from the head rest section 19 to cover some or all of the remainder of the seat.
  • The inventive apparatus may be of a disposable or reusable material, and incorporate padding. It is preferred that the disposable version of inventive apparatus is fabricated from polypropylene, polytetraflouroethylene, flouropolymers, or wax coated paper. The reuseable version of the invention may be also fabricated from more durable and washable material such as canvas, cloth, or terry cloth.
  • The inventive apparatus may also incorporate a deformable pad incorporated into the head rest section to provide comfort and support to the user. The deformable pad is preferably made from closed cell polyethylene foam, and open cell polyethylene foam.
  • Although several embodiments have been described, the same should not be construed as limited thereby to specific features mentioned herein, but include various other equivalent features and should only be limited in accordance with the claims appended hereto. It is understood that any suitable changes or substitutions may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
