Abstract
A book holder for holding a book within a range of lengths and thicknesses is provided. The book holder includes a first longitudinal frame member and a second longitudinal frame member adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the first frame member. A set of first and second spaced apart hooks are connected generally adjacent an extreme end of the frame members. At least one on the hooks on each frame member is generally being transversely positionally adjustable with respect to the connected frame member.
Description
- The present application claims priority and the benefit of prior provisional U.S.
Patent Application 60/817263 filed 28 Jun. 2006 Entitled “Purse and Case for Carrying a Book”, - This invention relates generally to purses and cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, and more particularly, to an arrangement that facilitates the efficient carrying of a Bible or book, without damaging the book, and maintaining the book safely yet easily removably attached to the purse or case.
- Conventional cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, generally are limited to the attachment of the covers of the Bible to pockets in the case. There generally is no room for additional materials, such as a writing pad, writing instrument, and pockets for miscellaneous items. There is a need, therefore, for an arrangement for caring a Bible that physically protects the Bible, provides a plurality of accessory-carrying pockets, and permits the Bible to be removed from the case with minimal effort. In many instances, a decision to purchase a given Bible or book is made independently of a decision to purchase a book case. Accordingly, there is also a need to provide a book holder that can conveniently accommodate Bibles or books of various lengths and thicknesses.
- To satisfy the above noted needs, a revelation of the present invention is brought forth. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a book holder for holding a book within a range of lengths and thicknesses. The book holder includes a first longitudinal frame member and a second longitudinal frame member adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the first frame member. A set including at least first and second spaced apart hooks are connected generally adjacent an extreme end of the frame members. At least one on the hooks on each frame member is generally being transversely positionally adjustable with respect to its connected frame member.
- Other features of the invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art as the invention is further revealed in the accompanying drawings and Detailed Description of the Invention.

FIGS. 5-11 provide abook holder 7 according to the present invention. Thebook holder 7 has a metal or polymeric femalelongitudinal frame member 10. Thefemale frame member 10 is primarily shaped as an elongated rectangular box structure. Thefemale frame member 10 has a height approximately ½″ or less and a width of approximately 1¼″. Thefemale frame member 10 in the embodiment shown has a length of approximately 5½ inches long extending along alongitudinal axis 12. - Generally adjacent an
extreme end 14 of thefemale frame member 10 is atransverse beam 16. Thetransverse beam 16 has atransverse slot 20. Extending through thetransverse slot 20 is astub portion 22 of ahook 24. Juxtaposing thestud portion 22 of thehook 24 is an inner screw onflange 26 and anouter flange 28. Thehook 24 has afirst portion 30 that extends generally along anaxis 38 generally parallel with theaxis 12. Thehook 24 has asecond portion 32 spaced from thefirst portion 30 extending in a direction opposite thefirst portion 30. Thesecond portion 32 can be generally parallel with thefirst portion 30. Thesecond portion 32 of the hook can be coated with apolymeric material 34 such as plastic or other suitable alternative to prevent damage to any Bible or book that is connected with thebook holder 7. - The
female frame member 10 along anextreme end 14 has two transverse orientedwindows 36. The hookfirst portion 30 extends out of thewindows 36. Thehook stud portion 22 has a loose fit within theslot 20 to allow thehook 24 to adjustably transversely translate with respect to the female frame member 10 (and in respect to thehook 24, that the hook is lateral spaced from). Additionally eachhook 24 can have pivotal movement upon theaxis 38 to provide an additional dimension of its transverse adjustment. When abook 51 is installed in thebook holder 7, thesecond portion 32 will be positioned to extend between the cover and binding of thebook 51 to retain the same. The above noted configuration can accept hard back or paperback publications. The transverse adjustment allows thebook holder - Adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the
female frame member 10 is as amale frame member 50. Themale frame member 50 is telescopically insertably positioned within thefemale frame member 10 to allow thebook holder 7 to adjust to Bibles orbooks 51 of different lengths. As shown the book holder can adjust to book lengths of approximately 4½ to 9 inches. - The
female frame member 10 has anoptional slot 52 for receipt of ascrew clamping device 54. In theembodiment 17 ofFIGS. 1-4 thescrew 54 is inserted within a threaded hole (not shown) in themale frame member 50 and the head of thescrew 54 clamps down the side of the female member adjacent theslot 52. In the embodiment of thebook holder 7 as shown inFIGS. 5-11 , thescrew 54 can be threadably engaged with a threaded bore in the side of the female frame member and a shank portion of the screw abuts itself against of the side of themale frame member 50 or into one of a plurality of adjustment apertures (not shown). - Pivotally connected to the
female frame member 10 by ahinge 58 is awing 60. Thewing 60 is typically connected to abinder portion 62 of afolding bookcase 64. Thebook case 64binder portion 62 has a series ofelastic bands 66 to receive the insertedwing 60. In alternative embodiments a ferromagnetic frame member or wing may be magnetically retained to the binder portion. In still another embodiment a hook and loop fastener material can be utilized to make the connection between the book holder in binder portion of the book case. - While preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed, it is to be understood it has been described by way of example only, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as it is encompassed in the following claims.
