Lamp Sockets 23 are carried by the brackets and, in the present instance, comprise openings in reflector shells 24 which are secured to the brackets 22, thus establishing an electrical connection between the sockets and the battery. Mounted in each socket is an electric lamp 25, the base or supporting portion of which extends through and has electrical connection with the socket, preferably by screwing the same into the socket opening, and the terminal at the rear end of the base engages a contact member 26 extending laterally from the hood. The contact members and the radiator are insulated one from the other and, in the present instance, the contact members 26 are formed integral with the hood, which is grounded on the frame, and the radiator is insulated from the hood and the frame, preferably by interposing insulation 2B between the radiator and those parts of the hood structure with which it contacts. The hood itself may be electrically connected with the second or rear terminal of the battery in any suitable manner, but a switch is preferably employed so that the circuit may be opened and closed. As here shown, the switch is in the form of a lever 21 which is supported by the frame and may conveniently be mounted on an upright wall of the structure Il which supports the battery.
This upright wall has secured thereto, and preferably` formed integral therewith, a guide member 28 which extends lengthwise of and is spaced inwardly from the wall. The wall is provided above the guide member with an opening 29. The lever extends upwardly between the guide member 28 and the wall and has a laterallyr extending pivot lug 30 which projects through the opening 29 and pivotally supports the lever. The upper portion of the lever constitutes an operating handle and the lower portion of the lever is adapted to engage the rear terminal of the battery and, as here shown, is provided with a laterally extending portion or toe 3| to contact with the end of the battery. When this lever is moved into engagement with the end of the battery the latter is grounded on the frame and the circuit is closed through the frame, the hood, contact members 26, the lamps, lamp sockets, and radiator back to the battery, thus establishing a complete circuit through structural parts of the toy and without any wiring. This construction is of such a character that the toy can be built and assembled and the proper electrical connections provided at a very low cost.-
'I'he hood 1, cab 9, fenders V32` and running boards 33 are preferably formed in one piece and in such a manner that the fenders and running boards have integral connection with the hood and cab throughout their length. These several parts are formed from a single blank of sheet metal, the lateral portions of which are drawn to the desired shape to form the fenders 32, apron I6 and running board 3 3. The blank is then bent about a central axis to impart a U-shape to the hood and to arrange the sides of the cab parallel. The rear portions of the blank are then bent inwardly, as shown at 34, to form the back Wall ofthe cab. 'I'he top 35 of the cab `is formed separately from the side and back walls kand'is mounted thereon after the blank has been bent to its nal form.
The truck here illustrated is provided with a tiltable body 36 which is pivotally mounted near :its rear end on the frame 5. A shaft 31 is mounted in the frame and provided with an oifset portion 38. between the side members of the frame to form a crank and this crank is connected by a link 39 with the forward end of the body so that the rotation of the shaft will raise and lower the frontend of the body. The llink is preferably in the form of a at piece of sheet metal and is provided at its lateral edges with downwardly bent portions or lugs 40 so arranged that when the link and cab are moved to their lowermost positions the lugs 40 Will engage theside members of the frame and will provide a rigid `support for the front end of the cab, thus eliminating the supporting member which is usually provided for this purpose.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the details thereof as various modifications may occur to a person skilled in the art.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by YLetters Patent, is: f
1, In a toy vehicle inthe form of an automobile, a frame, an electric battery carried byv said frame, a metallic hood mounted on said frame about said battery, electric contact members on said hood, a metallic radiator simulation mounted on the front end of said hood, insulated therefrom and having a part to engage one Yterminal of the `battery when said radiator simulation is mounted on said hood, lamp sockets carried by and electrically connected with said radiatork simulation and arranged adjacent to the contact members on said hood, lamps mounted in said sockets and having electrical contact therewith and with the respective contact members on said hood, and means for Velectrically `connecting said hood with the other terminal of said battery.
2. In a toy vehiclein the form of an automobile, a frame, an electric battery. carried by said frame, a metallic hood mounted on said frame about said battery, contact members formed integral with said hood and extending laterally therefrom, a metallic radiator simulation having means for attaching thev sameto said hood and having a part arranged to engage one terminal of l said battery when said radiator simulation is mounted on said hood, means for insulating said radiator simulation from said hood, lamp brackets permanently attached to and electrically connectedwith said radiator simulation and extending laterally therefrom in front of the Contact members of said hood, lamp Isockets carried by said brackets land electrically connected therewith, lampsmounted in said sockets and having electrical contacttherewith and with the respective contact members on said hood, and a switch to establish electrical connection between said hood and the other terminal of said battery.
3. In a toy vehicle in the form of an automobile, a frame, an electric battery carried by said frame and having terminals at the front and rear ends thereof, a metallic hood mounted on said frame, contact members extending laterally from said hood, a metallic member mounted at the front end of said hood, insulated therefrom and having a part to engage the front terminal of said battery, lamp sockets carried by and electrically connected with said metallic member and arranged in front of and adjacent to the respective contact members on said hood, a lamp mounted in each socket and having electrical contact with said socket and the adjacent contact member, an upright structure carried by 2,vooe,423
said frame adjacent lto said battery and having electrical connection with said hood, said structure having an opening, a part carried by and spaced laterally from said upright structure to form a Vertical guideway adjacent to said opening, and a lever mounted for oscillatory movement in said guideway and having a pivot lug extending into said opening, one end of said lever constituting a handle and the other .end thereof being movable into engagement with the rear terminal of said battery.
4. vIn a toyvehicle comprising a frame,a lampk carried by said frame anda dry cell adapted to be electrically connected with said lamp, a sup-r porting structure for said dry cell having upright side walls spaced apart to receive said kdry cell between them, said side walls having resilient parts extending downwardly therefrom and having parts thereof bent inwardly to engage the lower side of said dry cell and support the same between said side walls, one of said walls having a part bent laterally therefrom to form a vertil cal guideway and having an opening above said Q guideway', a lever'mounted in said guideway for oscillatory movement, having a pivot lug mounted in said opening and having apart movable into contact With` the adjacent terminal of said dry cell.
