Abstract

An allpurpose naptime bag that attaches to a standard daycare cot. The bag is provided with straps so when the bag is rolled or folded up it serves as a backpack. A sheet is partially affixed to a blanket, and the sheet has a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • The present application is based on and claims priority from U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 60/595,171 filed Jun. 13, 2005.

  • BACGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates generally to a novel and unique multipurpose bag, and methods of constructing and utilizing same.
  • More particularly, the present invention relates to a multipurpose bag to provide daycare students with an easy all-purpose naptime bag.
  • The prior, but not necessarily relevant, art is exemplified by: Alonso U.S. Pat. No. 5,491,851 entitled “CHILD'S MULTIPURPOSE, MULTISECTIONAL MAT WITH CARRYING HANDLES”; Davis U.S. Pat. No. 6,026,525 entitled “FOLDABLE INFANT MATTRESS SYSTEM WITH SLEEPING RECESS”; and Hort U.S. Pat. No. 6,588,036 entitled “BEDROLL”.
  • It is a desideratum of the present invention to avoid the animadversions of the prior art and conventional bags, and to provide a novel and unique easy all-purpose naptime bag.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention provides a multipurpose bag, comprising: a bag having a bottom portion provided with a sheet member which is attached to a blanket; said blanket is sewn to said sheet member at a left edge of said blanket, a bottom edge of said blanket, and a lower portion of a right edge of said blanket; said blanket having an upper edge which is open and an upper portion of a right edge of said blanket which is openable relative to said sheet member to permit a child to position his or herself under said blanket; and said bag is provided at each of its four corners with a Velcro® strap device to secure said bag to an external cot at all four corners.
  • The present invention provides daycare students with an easy, all-purpose naptime bag as described and illustrated hereinebelow.
  • It is an object of the present invention to provide a three-in-one bag which will fit snugly around the standard daycare cot.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as mentioned hereinabove, wherein the bag has a bottom which will be like a sheet with a blanket attached with an opening at the top to insert a pillow therein.
  • Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a multi-purpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the bag can be rolled up into a backpack so the child can carry it.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the bag is designed to fold up into a small configuration and yet give the child a comfortable sleeping bag and also keep the components of the bag from separately falling on the daycare floor, thus providing cleanliness.
  • Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the sheet of the bag will attach around the four corners of a standard daycare cot by way of Velcro® straps.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the bag is provided with a top blanket which is sewn up completely on one side and is securable on the opposite side by way of a Velcro® reclosable fastener.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the top portion of the blanket will come up shorter than the length of the sheet to allow the child's head to be completely free of the blanket.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the sheet is provided with an opening through the top portion thereof to permit the insertion therein of a pillow.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide a multipurpose bag as described hereinabove, wherein the bag is provided with straps on the bottom so when the bag is folded up it will become a backpack.
  • Other advantages, features and modifications of the present invention will become more apparent to those persons skilled in this particular area of technology and to other persons after having been exposed to the present patent specification with its accompanying drawings.

  • FIG. 1 is a top plan view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of the FIG. 1 embodiment.
  • FIG. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the Velcro® fastener near the top portion of the FIG. 1 embodiment.
  • FIG. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the Velcro® fastener at the side of the FIG. 1 embodiment.
  • FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the FIG. 1 bag which is rolled into a configuration ready for transport or hanging.
  • FIG. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the Velcro® straps.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference to FIGS. 1-6, there is shown a multipurpose bag 11 in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • The bottom portion of the bag 10 is provided with a sheet member 11 to which is attached a blanket 12.
  • As viewed in FIG. 1, the blanket 12 is sewn to the sheet member 11 at the left edge 13 thereof the bottom edge 14 thereof, and the lower portion 15 of the right edge 16.
  • The upper edge 17 of the blanket is open and the upper portion 18 of the right edge 16 of the blanket 12 is openable relative to the sheet member 11 to permit a child to position his or herself under the blanket 12. The upper portion 18 of the right edge 16 of the blanket 12 is selectively closeable and openable by way of a Velcro®fastener 19, a large fragmentary portion of which is shown in FIG. 4.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the sheet member 11 is constructed to form a pouch 20 into which a pillow 21 may be inserted.
  • The arrangement of the sheet member 11, the blanket 12, and the pillow 21 enables the child to sleep within the bag 10 with the child's head completely free of the blanket 12.
  • As best seen in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the pillow pouch area 20 is accessible at the top edge 22 thereof by way of a selectively openable and closeable Velcro® arrangement 23.
  • The bag 10 is provided at each of its four corners with Velcro® strap devices 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 in order to secure the bag 10 to a cot at all four corners.
  • One such arrangement shows at each corner two straps 24 and 25 having mateable hook and loop Velcro® portions 32 and 33, respectively, as best shown in FIGS. 2 and 6. This involves two separate straps 24 and 25 with mating Velcro® portions 32 and 33.
  • Alternatively, a single strap at each corner can be used to mate with Velcro® pads 34, 35, 36 and 37 on the back of the bag 10.
  • Preferably, but not necessarily, the bag 10 is provided with a first nametag 38 on the outer surface of the blanket 12, and a second nametag 39 at the back of the multipurpose bag 10.
  • The bag 10 is provided with a loop device 40 for hanging the bag 10 whendesired.
  • As best shown in FIG. 5, the bag 10 can be rolled into an arrangement for either hanging by the loop device 40, or for wearing by the child as a backpack.
  • When the rolled-up bag 10 is worn as a backpack, the straps 28, 29, 30 and 31 are made long enough for the child to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold the rolled-up bag 10 on his or her back as a backpack.
  • While the foregoing describes only exemplary embodiments of the present invention, it is to be understood that the present invention covers all variations, modifications and changes thereof which will occur to those persons skilled in the art and to others after having been exposed to the present patent application.

Claims (20)

1. A multipurpose bag, comprising
a bag having a bottom portion provided with a sheet member which is attached to a blanket;
said blanket is sewn to said sheet member at a left edge of said blanket, a bottom edge of said blanket, and a lower portion of a right edge of said blanket;
said blanket having an upper edge which is open and an upper portion of a right edge of said blanket which is openable relative to said sheet member to permit a child to position his or herself under said blanket; and
said bag is provided at each of its four corners with reclosable strap devices to secure said bag to an external cot at all four corners.
2. A multipurpose bag according to claim 1, wherein:
said bag can be rolled into an arrangement for wearing said bag as a backpack.
3. A multipurpose bag according to claim 1, wherein:
said bag is provided with a loop device for hanging said bag if desired.
4. A multipurpose bag according to claim 2, wherein:
said bag is provided with a loop device for hanging said bag if desired.
5. A multipurpose bag according to claim 3, wherein:
said bag can be rolled into an arrangement for hanging by said loop device.
6. A multipurpose bag according to claim 1, wherein:
said sheet member is constructed to form a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.
7. A multipurpose bag according to claim 2, wherein:
said sheet member is constructed to form a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.
8. A multipurpose bag according to claim 3, wherein:
said sheet member is constructed to form a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.
9. A multipurpose bag according to claim 4, wherein:
said sheet member is constructed to form a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.
10. A multipurpose bag according to claim 5, wherein:
said sheet member is constructed to form a pouch into which a pillow may be inserted.
11. A multipurpose bag according to claim 1 wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
12. A multipurpose bag according to claim 2, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
13. A multipurpose bag according to claim 3, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made Tong enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
14. A multipurpose bag according to claim 4, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
15. A multipurpose bag according to claim 5, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
16. A multipurpose bag according to claim 6, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
17. A multipurpose bag according to claim 7, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
18. A multipurpose bag according to claim 8, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
19. A multipurpose bag according to claim 9, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
20. A multipurpose bag according to claim 10, wherein:
when said bag is rolled up in the form of a backpack, said reclosable strap devices are made long enough for child user to slip his or her arms therethrough to hold said backpack on the user's back.
