Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates generally to box and container lids and more specifically it relates to a dispensing lid for Providing a lid that allows the user to easily open and close a box with bag inside without having to repeat the laborious procedure of opening and closing the box and bag inside the box every time he wants to pour the content of the bag. Providing a lid to seal of boxes of different sizes with a bag inside such as cereal-boxes of different sizes. Allowing the user to seal of a box with a bag inside so he can keep and preserve the content in the original package. Providing a lid with a dispensing opening and a hinged closing cap to better pour the content such as cereals without spilling them.
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art
  • It can be appreciated that box and container lids have been in use for years. Typically, box and container lids are comprising Cardboard boxes with an integrated lid. And containers with a dispensing lid.
  • The main problem with conventional box and container lids are: Cardboard boxes with a bag inside and an integrated lid are very unpractical to open and close again. Once the bag containing the content is opened, it is very laborious and almost impossible to adequately seal it of again. One must fold or roll up the bag inside the box with or without placing a clip or tape onto the bag. This inadequate and laborious procedure often has the result of tearing of edges and sides of the cardboard boxes. Another problem with conventional box lids is: cardboard boxes with a bag inside are very difficult for pouring the content without spilling. When the box is put in upward position after having poured for example cereals, cereals fall between the cardboard box and the bag inside the box. Another problem with conventional box top containers are: you first have to pour the content from the original package into a container, this leaves you with an empty box. Also containers don't display the name and brand name of the product. And the best possible way to preserve a product is in its original package. Typical prior art examples are described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,488,676 U.S. Pat. No. 4,759,478 and in patent WO 2004/094242. Said lids all having the features of being able to attach onto the sides of an opened box.
  • While these devices may be suitable for the particular purpose to which they address, they are not as suitable for providing an in size adjustable lid that allows the user to seal of boxes of different sizes. Providing a lid to seal of boxes of different sizes with a bag inside such as cereal-boxes. Allowing the user to seal of a box with a bag inside so he can keep and preserve the content in the original package. Providing a lid that can easy be placed and detachably fastened onto boxes of various different sizes. It can have an opening for easy pouring the content of the box or the bag inside the box such as a typical cereal without spilling them. The main problem with conventional box and container lid devices are: cardboard boxes with a bag inside containing a content are very unpractical to open and close. Once the bag containing the content is opened, it is very laborious and impossible to adequately seal it of again. Another problem is: cardboard boxes with a bag inside are very difficult for pouring the content without spilling it. When the box is put in upward position after having poured (for example) cereals, cereals fall between the cardboard box and the bag inside the cereal box. When using a container, the content of the original bag has to be poured into a container, this leaves you with an empty box that you now have to throw away. Furthermore containers don't display the name and brand name of the product. And the best possible way to preserve your product such as cereals is in the original package. In these respects the adjustable dispensing lid according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts of the prior art, and in doing so, provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of providing a device that allows the user to easily place an in size adjustable lid that will fit on many different box sizes. The lid is placed onto a box with a bag inside, thereby opening the bag inside the box, adjusting to the size of the box and sealing of the box at the same time. The only thing the user has to do now is open the dispenser cap and start pouring. When finished he can close said cap over the dispensing opening. Now the user can enjoy pouring and serving without having to repeat the laborious procedure of opening and closing the box and bag inside the box. Providing an adjustable lid to seal of boxes of different sizes with a bag inside such as cereal-boxes of different sizes. Allowing the user to seal of a box with bag inside so he can keep and preserve the content in the original package.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of box and container lids now present in the prior art, the present invention according to the various embodiments described below provides a new adjustable dispensing lid construction wherein the same can be utilized for providing a device that allows the user to seal of boxes of different sizes and easily open and close a box without having to repeat the laborious procedure of opening and closing the box and bag inside the box every time he wants to pour the content of the bag. Providing an adjustable lid to seal of boxes of different sizes with a bag inside such as cereal-boxes of different sizes. Allowing the user to seal of a box with a bag inside so he can keep and preserve the content in the original package. Providing an adjustable lid with a dispensing opening and a preferably hinged closing cap to better pour the content such as a ready to eat cereal without spilling them.
  • The general purpose of the present invention which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new kind of adjustable dispensing lid that has many of the advantages of the box and container lids mentioned heretofore and many novel features that result in a new adjustable dispensing lid which is not anticipated, obvious, suggested, by any of the prior art box and container lid devices.
  • To attain this, the present invention generally comprises A lid having a rectangular configuration, preferably comprising two main parts that slide into or onto each other. Both parts having an exterior wall/rim and one extending limb on the inner side. The inner extending limb preferably being longer than the exterior wall and extending downwards. A dispensing opening in one of said two main parts is provided surrounded by an apron/wall and a preferably hinged cap that fits over this dispensing opening. Furthermore a means for a springs system intermediate the two main lid parts is provided.
  • There has thus been outlined rather broadly the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter.
  • In this respect before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings.
  • The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of the description and should not be regarded as limiting.
  • A primary object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable dispensing lid that fits onto boxes of different sizes and will overcome the shortcomings of the prior art devices.
  • Another object is to provide an adjustable dispensing lid that opens and if necessary presses the bag inside the box against the inner side of the box. The present invention can be used and placed into and on top of a wide variety of box products such as rice, pancake mix, instant mashed potatoes etc. The present invention can be used on all boxes with or without a bag inside.
  • Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become obvious to the reader and it is intended that these objects and advantages are within the scope of the present invention.
  • To the accomplishment of the above and related objects, this invention may be embodied in the form illustrated in the accompanying drawings, attention being called to the fact, however, that the drawings are illustrative only, and that changes may be made in the specific construction illustrated.

A double wall, and/or extending limb/rib or any other suitable means and construction may be integrated into the area of the sides of the small exterior walls (68 and 70) as to easily and firmly snap the lid, with or without the bag in between onto a preferably cardboard box like a cereal box. A system of an extending limb (72) that presses the bag against the inner side and or snaps the lid onto the box, may be integrated anywhere into the invention. Every other alternative, suitable construction and manufacturing options may be used, departing from the same said task the present invention is to perform. Which is placing a lid onto a box with or without a bag inside, wherein said lid will open the bag inside the box for easy pouring and firmly attaching said lid onto the sides of a preferably cardboard box. The ornamental shape, design and overall look of this part is to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive. Although the invention has been described above by reference to a preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that other constructions may be devised, which are nevertheless within the scope and spirit of the invention. The embodiment described above is not to be considered restrictive.
  • Springs comprising of a traditionally spiral spring. The biasing effect of the springs 51, may be replaced by an integrated spring-like construction in molded Lid part 20, or in Lid part 60, or in both parts. This construction is preferably integrally formed with said lid parts, and manufactured into the molded parts and may be positioned anywhere in the present invention. Although the springs used in the present device are described with a preferred number of springs, there may be more or less springs used. It will be appreciated that other constructions for obtaining this specific resilient function may be devised, which are nevertheless within the scope and spirit of the invention. The embodiment described above is not to be considered restrictive.
  • Said described adjustable lid interconnects and is assembled in the following manner. Lid part 60 preferably is slide into or onto Lid part 20 and movably fastened by means of the corresponding snap-fit/stop engagements, or any other stopping means. Part 20 and 60 are now attached with each other but can slide into each other for a certain distance, they are capturing and holding each other by means of each other and by said snap fits or any other stopping mechanism so that they can't slide out of each other.
  • When Lid parts 20 and 60 are compressed inwardly, a resilient pressure can be created. After having placed and positioned the present invention with the extending limbs (42,72) inside the bag and or box, and having moved both said limbs to the inner side of the box, the bag inside the box. At the same time adjusting the lid to the depth size of the box. Now al the user has to do is to press the lid over the box. The lid can firmly snap onto the box, and the bag will be opened and stays open for easy pouring guidance towards the opening 26. The system of including a spring alike system may be obviated, and the function of adjusting the lid to the size of the box may be done manually. For example handles (not shown) may be arranged and constructed so that they can be manually gripped to pull and press at least one lid part in and outwardly as to adapt the lid to the exact dept size of the box. Different industrially suitable ways of fastening and assembling both Lid parts 20 and 60 may be used. The present invention may be constructed of various types of plastics, composite or any other material. Cap 30 may be hinged integrally onto apron wall 28 or be a separate cap that is detachably fixed onto apron 28. Although the shape and position of opening 26, 64, apron wall 28 and cap 30 are described in a preferred embodiment, they may be positioned and shaped differently. The dispensing opening 26 and 64, the stop engagements 52 and 76 may be positioned anywhere else into part 20 and 60. Different industrially applicable constructions of fastening part 20 with part 60 may be used. A double wall, and and/or extending limb may also be integrated onto the sides of the small exterior walls (38,48,68,70). A system of an extending limb (42,72) that presses the bag against the inner side of the box, may also be integrated into both other small exterior wall-sides (38,48,68,70).
  • As a further example the invention may also be constructed and arranged out of a stretchy material such as a silicone with or without rigid parts and sections. See FIGS. 10-13 (FIG. 120 indicates a flexible material section, FIG. 122 indicates a rigid material section, the arrows show the stretch direction.) the present invention could be comprising a flexible stretchy material such as a rubber, silicone, or any other suitable material (120) that accomplishes the task of being adjustable in size to fit around a plurality of boxes having different sizes. Adjusting to the size of the box, and preferably opening the bag inside the box for easy pouring guidance of the content. Such lid can be constructed and arranged out of only said flexible material (s) (120) or in combination with sections/parts in a rigid material (122) See FIGS. 10-13. For example the lid can comprise a rectangular configuration having a top and opposite bottom surface with a peripheral edge (124) extending downwards around the bottom surface that is placed over the top of the box. Said configuration can be made out of a flexible material, rubber, silicone, elastomer or any other suitable material that can be placed and stretched over the box and when released can adjust to the sides of the box due to the resilient flexibility features of the material. It could wrap/stretch around the box corners. The top surface can comprise an opening (26) with a cap (30) for closing of said opening. Said opening preferably having an apron/edge extending around it. Said opening (26) with edge and cap (30) can be made in the same said flexible material or in a rigid material as seen in FIGS. 10-11. Such a lid preferably comprising one integrally formed top surface with opposite bottom surface comprising side walls (124). furthermore It can also comprising two rigid parts with a flexible material intermediate See FIGS. 12-13. Or alternatively one rigid side part/remainder and one flexible remainder (not shown). FIGS. 10 and 12 show the lid in a non stretched situation, typically fitting the smallest box. FIGS. 11 and 13 show the lid when stretched out to fit over a wider box. The advantage of combing parts/constructions in a flexible material and others in a rigid material as shown in FIGS. 10-13 is to combine rigid sections with flexible ones in one entity/lid. For example in FIGS. 12-13 side walls (124) are of a rigid material. This way the user has a stable structure to stretch/open the lid and stable attach it onto the sides of the opened box. Parts in the rigid materials can not change in shape and stay stable, whereas the flexible sections need to change elasticity and size. All the lids specified throughout this patent can have inner walls and protrusions at least partially spaced downwards from the bottom surface of the lid as to forming a channel inside the lid for attaching it onto the sides of the box and means for opening the bag inside the box. It will become apparent to those skilled in the art that in this embodiment, rather than using two engaged sliding top and bottom surfaces as described earlier in the first embodiment, the lid in said configurations preferably comprises of one flexible entity. Trough all embodiments of the invention, any flexible material, rubber, elastomer, silicone or other suitable material may be integrated constructed and arranged into the lid to give a better sealing result and user friendliness. Trough all embodiments of the invention apron/wall/rim (28) around the perimeter of opening (26) may partially or completely run downwards inside the bag and be positioned against the inside of the box, thereby capturing or pressing the bag against the inner side of the box to open the bag inside the box. This to let the contents of the bag preferably cereals be easily guided into the pouring opening (26) Another object is to provide a handle that can be fixedly or permanently attached to the lid so that the user can now easily pour the content of the box, without having to actually taking the box, but rather lift the box with the handle for easy pouring. (Not shown). The ornamental shape, design and overall look of the present invention is to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive. Every other alternative, suitable construction and manufacturing options may be used, departing from the same said task the present invention is to perform. Although the invention has been described above by reference to a preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that other constructions may be devised, which are nevertheless within the scope and spirit of the invention. The embodiment described above is not to be considered restrictive. Several different embodiments of the present invention are described above, with each such embodiment described as including certain features. However, it is intended that the features described in connection with the discussion of any single embodiment are not limited to that embodiment but may be included and/or arranged in various combinations in any of the other embodiments as well, as will be understood by those skilled in the art. Similarly, in the discussion above, functionality may be ascribed to a particular module or component. However, unless any particular functionality is described above as being critical to the referenced module or component, functionality may be redistributed as desired among any different modules or components, in some cases completely obviating the need for a particular component or module and/or requiring the addition of new components or modules. The precise distribution of functionality preferably is made according to known engineering tradeoffs, with reference to the specific embodiment of the invention, as will be understood by those skilled in the art.
  • Operation of the Lid as Described in the First Embodiment
  • The user opens the box (1) and the bag (2) containing the content inside the box. The user folds the flaps of the box towards the inside or outside of the box (1). The user places the invention over the box. The user now compresses both sides of the lid inwardly and places the lid with the extending limbs (42 and 72) into the bag inside the box. The user releases both sides of the lid. The lid with extending limbs (42 and 72) can now be adjusted to the inner size of the box, by sliding the two main parts to the outside of the box, thereby opening and pressing the bag against the inner side of the box, sealing it of adequately. The user now presses the lid over the box. The box and bag are now captured between the two limbs (42 and 72), and the inner sides of the exterior walls 34,38,48,66,68,70 surrounding the lid. The corners of the box are now also reinforced because they are captured between said limbs and the inner sides of the exterior walls. The user now opens the closing cap (30) on top of lid part 20 to pour the content that is in the bag and or box. After finishing he closes the cap (30) so the box (1) and bag (2) with content inside are perfectly sealed of. The only thing he has to do now if he wants to serve (for example cereals) is opening and closing cap (30). After serving he closes the dispenser cap (30) he can store the box with the present invention on top away. When the content in the box is empty, the user removes the lid by pulling it upwards from the box. Now the user can place the invention on top of a new box such as a new cereal-box. The present invention can also be used and placed into, and on top of a wide variety of other box products such as rice, pancake mix, instant mashed potatoes and many more. The present invention can be used on all boxes with a bag inside containing a content.
  • As to a further discussion of the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention. Therefore the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
