IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,408, dated February 19, 1878 application filed January 2, 1878.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA R. ROSWELL, of the town of Stratford, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Tops of Lamp- Chimneys, of which the following is a specification:
The invention is intended as a cover for lamp-chimneys, to protect the light from the wind and sudden gusts of air, and to be used also for heating purposes for small vessels, &c.
Figure 1 is a view of the apparatus attached to a lamp-chimney.
Ais the cover, made of two pieces of metal, the top piecepertbrated. d is an air-chamber between the plates at and b, which prevents 'the top plate a from getting-very hot. The
heated air is allowed to escape through the holes in the plate a. c c c are the supports by which it is attached to the chimney.
When it is necessary to heat a vessel it is set on the cover, which closes the holes and prevents the escape of heated air. All the heat the rush of air down the chimney and putting out the light. It also prevents any unpleasant smell while burning, as will invariably occur When a lamp is burning, especially so when it is turned low.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the plates a and b, airchamber d, and supports 0 c c, all substantially as described and set forth.
