Abstract

At the present time, no device exists that allows people to connect standard umbrellas to standard lawn chairs. The ShadeMeister fills this void. Attaching umbrellas to lawn chairs will prove useful for those individuals who wish to have shade while sitting and watching outdoor athletic events, enjoying the beach, tailgate parties, and other outdoor activities. This device enables people to use the umbrellas and chairs that they already own and create shade for themselves with little cost and effort.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • I Don Kersey Jr, the inventor of the ShadeMeister, noticed people at outdoor athletic events holding umbrellas to stay out of the sun as they sat in their lawn chairs. I surmised that a device that would attach any standard umbrella to most standard lawn chairs would be useful since it would free up the users hands and make their sitting situation more comfortable. [0004]
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The ShadeMeister is a device that allows users to connect standard umbrellas to most standard lawn chairs. By doing so, users can now take the existing chairs and umbrellas that they now own and provide a shaded place to sit during tailgate parties, children's athletic events, fishing, beach and camping activities. Use of the ShadeMeister prevents the users from having to buy specially designed chairs that have umbrellas already attached.[0005]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING
  • FIG. 1A depicts a fully assembled ShadeMeister. On the left side of the ShadeMeister are two pinch clips which attach to the back portion of the lawn chair. On the right side of the ShadeMeister are one pinch clip and one broom clip. The pinch clip on the right side attaches to the vertical post of a standard umbrella. The broom clip attaches to the handle of most standard umbrellas. [0006]
  • FIG. 1B depicts a fully assembled ShadeMeister as it relates to the point of attachment on an umbrella and a lawn chair. [0007]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The ShadeMeister consists of the following parts: [0008]
  • a. one block of wood 12 inches long, 1½ inch wide, and ¾ inch thick [0009]
  • b. three [0010] pinch clips 2 ½ inches long with two wood screws each for attachment to the wood block.
  • c. one broom clip two inches long with two wood screws for attachment to the wood block. [0011]
  • The ShadeMeister is constructed in the following manner: [0012]
  • The wood block is cut to length, sanded and stained. Two pinch clips are attached with screws on one of the one and ½ inch wide sides of the block at a spacing of two inches from the top of the block and two and half inches from the bottom of the block. On the reverse side of the wood block, one pinch clip is attached two and one half inches from the top of the block and one broom clip is attached four and one half inches from the bottom of the block. The side of the block with the two pinch clips attaches to the upright portion of the back of most standard lawn chairs by opening the clips and sliding them over the vertical post on the back of the chair. The pinch clip on the reverse side of the block is opened and slipped over the vertical post of most standard umbrellas. The umbrella handle is then slipped into the broom clip. This method of attaching an umbrella to a lawn chair is convenient and provides a very strong connection between these two items. [0013]
