CLAMPING COMB FiledfAug. 18, 1934 ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 23, 1935 UNITED STATES 1,998,699 CLAMPING MB Siegfried Behr, Flushing, N. Y., assignor toV Ben Hur Products, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application August 1.8, 1934, Serial No. 740,404
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a combined hair comb and clamp.
A primary object is to provide a device of this kind that can be securely attached to the hair and is prevented from becoming displaced in the hair.
Another object is to provide such a device that is ornamental and attractive in appearance.
Still another object is to provide a device of this kind that is simple in construction and economical to manufacture. Y The invention Will be better understood from the description thereof to follow taken in connection With the accompanying dravving in Whchl Figure l is a front elevation of my improved device.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the plane of line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the plane of the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
Figure 5 is a View showing the improved device in position on the head of a wearer.
Referring to the drawing, my improved device includes a comb indicated generally at l0 having an upper solid portion I I and spaced depending teeth 2. The teeth are shown Wavy in form but may be shaped as desired. This comb may be made of pyroxilin compound or any other suitable material, and is slightly curved as shown in Fig. 2.
Pivotally mounted on the upper solid portion Il of the comb, near the top thereof and on each side of the center thereof is a clamping member I3. Each clamping member is formed with a hub portion I4 Which is loosely mounted on a pivot pin I 5 which passes through an opening in the solid portion of the comb and is fastened to the other side of the solid portion by a turned over portion I6. These clamping members are shown as shaped like Wings and are so positioned on the pivot pin and relative to the teeth of the comb that a portion thereof slides over and overlaps said teeth. It will be understood that these clamping members may take any desired shape or form so long as a portion thereof is adapted to slide over the teeth. These clamping members are preferably made of the same material as the comb.
In using my improved comb'and clamp, the
comb is inserted into the hair so that the hair will protrude out through the teeth, the clamping members having first been turned so that no portions thereof cover the teeth of the comb to a position such as the left` hand clamping member of Fig. 1. One or both of the clamping members are then turned by a protruding portion on its pivot so that a portion thereof Will slide over the hair and teeth and clampinglyv hold said hair between said teeth and portion.
In addition to firmly attaching the comb to the hair, the clamping members provide ornaments for the hair.
It Will be understocdthat the form o-f my improved device shown in the drawing is for illustration only and that variations in details may be made Without departing from Athe principle of the invention and I desire to be limited only by the state of the prior art and the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the kind described, a comb comprising a curved body portion and teeth thereon, a clamping member having a solid body, aV pivot pin mounting said member rotatably on the convex side of said comb, said clamping member comprising a hub portion and a pair of lever arms thereon, one of said arms covering a part of the teeth on said comb and a part of the hair protruding therefrom pressing it against the convex comb surface, the other arm extending beyond the outline of said comb forming a handle for operation of said clamping member outside of the hair surface.
2. In a device of the kind described, a comb comprising a curved body portion and teeth thereon, a pair of clamping members each having a solid body, a pair o-f pivot pins symmetrically spaced from the median line of said comb in the body portion thereof, each pin holding one of said members rotatably connected to the convex side of said comb, each of said members having a hub portion surrounding said pin and a pair of arms extending therefrom, lone of said arms covering a part of the yteeth on said comb and a part of the hair protruding therefrom pressing it against the convex comb surface, the other arm extending beyond the outline of said comb forming a handle for operation of said rst arm outside of the hair and when in clamping position forming in cooperation with the second clamping member a symmetrical figure uncovered by the hair.
