UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MIROM V. LONGSWORTH AND ELI M. TANNEHILL, OF DELPHOS, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED HAMMER, MEAT-POUNDER, AND HASHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,838, dated January 29, 1878; application filed I October 13, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, MIROM V. Lones- WORTH and ELI M. TANNEHILL, of Delphos,
in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in a Combined Meat-Founder and Hash and Cabbage Knife; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a side view of our invention, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
This invention relates to an improved utensil which may be used as a hammer, a meatpounder, hasher, or for cutting vegetables, at pleasure ;v and its nature will be clearly set forth in the following description and claim appended thereto.
In the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates our improved meat-pounder and hasher. This device is composed of a body, a,
abroad slightly-convex head, b, and a crescentshaped blade, 0. The body and head are connected by a reduced neck, d, and are formed in one piece out of malleable iron, cast-steel, or other suitable metal. The convex surface of the head is provided with a plain central portion, t, surrounded by raised angular points z", the former being used in driving nails and the latter for rendering meat tender. the lower edge of the body a project two diverging prongs, e c, in the same plane with each, and each provided attheir lower ends with a deep slot, f, adapted to receive the upper edge of the crescentshaped steel-blade c. This latter is secured to the prongs by means of screws or rivets, and, if broken, may be readily removed, and another substituted therefor at any smithy. This blade is set in the prongs a little angling, and the front end of the same is cut off, thereby forming a point, g, by means of which the meat being minced may be conveniently got at in the corners or near the sides of a mincing trough or tray. This point also serves to cut out gristle or other cartilaginous matter in the meat.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The'utensil adapted to be employed as a hammer, meat-pounder, or hasher, having the convex head I), provided with points i, the body a, having the diverging prongs e c with slots f, and the curved blade 0, seated in said slots, substantially as specified.
In testimony that we claim the abovewehave hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
MIROM V. LONGSWORTH. ELI M. TANNEHILL. Witnesses:
B. J. BROTHERTON, L. S. RIsEY.
