1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in the general art of dentistry, and more particularly to a novel dental cleaning, polishing and massaging unit.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a dental instrument which can be readily adapted to various working positions and which in use will be convenient to handle.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a tooth cleaning and polishing implement of the power driven type which can be economically constructed and sold well within the reach of the average person who buys tooth brushes.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.

Figure 3 represents a longitudinal sectional view through the brush and handle construction.
Figure 4 represents a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents an octagon-shaped handle of elongated construction having a longitudinally extending bore 6 therein. One end of the handle is counter-bored to receive the conduit 1 through which the flexible shaft 8 extends. This shaft extends from the small motor (hand clipper.
type) generally referred to by numeral 9. Numeral l represents the usual conductor cord which extends from the motor 9 and is equipped with a connector plug l I.
The other end of the handle is provided with a reduced and threaded portion I2 which fits into the curved handle shank 13 which is also provided with an opening axially therethrough and through which the aforementioned flexible shaft 8 extends.
Numeral l4 represents a rotary brush, the back 6 l5 of which rotates within the concavity I 6 of the disk H, which disk is provided with a threaded recess therein for receiving the threaded reduced extension I8 of the cLuved shank I3. The drive end of the shaft 8 extends through the shank I 3 and disk I7 and is anchored in the central portion of the brush back l5.
Obviously, when the conductor cord 10 is connected to a current supply line and the motor 9 is energized, the shaft 8 will be driven and in 15 rotating will rotate the brush M at a moderate rate of speed.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:-
A dental instrument of the character described comprising a handle having a longitudinally extending bore therethrough, a motor, a conduit from the motor to the handle, a flexible shaft extending from the motor and through the conduit and handle, a head at one end of the handle having a cavity therein, a brush having a back, said back being of a contour to fit snugly and free to rotate in the said cavity, and a detachable connection between the said back and the said flexible shaft, said flexible shaft being adapted to hold the back in said cavity.
