tween the eyes 20, so that the device normally assume's'substant'iallythe form of a trapezoid or trapezium when links or swivels are used.
In the use of my improved device, the boat A is I placed in the water and apull is exerted on the cord 22. Due to the links 2!, therod or wire, ll will be pulled forwardly at an angle and made to assume the form of a trapezoid or trapezium (when the links or swivels are used) in conjunction with the keel. The arrangement of the links orswivels and the rod I! being shorter than the distancebetween the connections orey'es 26 throws the boat over the. centerofiits horizontal plane, f which drives it outwardly. against-the pull of the cord, "wherebytheboat'will assume a straight, forward path. Obviously, the boat can be pulled backwards by merely exerting a, rearward'pull on the cord.
- Naturally, I do not wish to confine use of my' improved toy dragline' device to boats alone and the same can be employed in conjunction with wheeled toys. 1 In Figure 5. I have illustrated my dragline device connected with a wheeled toy C, which can be of any.desired-character,-shape or size. I In this form-of my invention, the dragline device is generallyindicatedby .the reference character D and the-same includesathe U.-shaped bail 25, including the rod 26 and the right-angularly extending arms or legs 21, which terminate inthe eyes or hooksl28. Secured to the body of the wheeled toy are eyes29lwhich are connected directlyto thehooks 28 or by means of links-30 to the hooks 28. In this form of my invention, the dragline is also connected to the vehicle at two pointsequidistantly spaced on opposite sides;of thevertical axis,'the same two points being below the center of gravity and parallel with the horizontal axis. 7 1
In lieu of using the swivels 2|, I can employ the straight links 30, as shown in-Figure 5.
The pull cord 3| is connected to the rod 28 by means of the swivel 32.
By pulling on the cord, the wheeled toy can be pulled in astraight, forward path,-in. the same manner as theboat. r
. In order to bring about the best-operation. of the wheeled vehicle or'toy, the front wheels 33 thereof .are inclined outwardly toward one side of thevehicle and the rear wheels 34 are inclined inwardly toward the other side of the vehicle.
While I have stated throughout the" specification that my improved dragline device is'particu-. larly intended for toys, I do not wish to restrict myself to the use thereof in connection with toys alone, as the same canbe' used for a varietyof purposes, such as in connection with'surf-boards, decoy ducks or differentvarieties of fishing tackle or any otherdevice with which a d'ragline may beusedpr Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or the scope of this invention, but what I claim as new is:-
1. In a toy vehicle including a body, a dragline therefor including a rod, a pull cord connected with the rod, and links pivotally connecting the ends of the rod with the body.
2. In a toy vehicle including a body, a dragline for the vehicle including a rod extending parallel with the body, links pivotally connecting the ends of the rod with the body, a pull cord and an eye slidably connecting the pull cord with the rod.
3. The combination with a toy vehicle including' a body, of means for pulling the vehicle forward or rearward in a straight path alongside of a child including a rod, links pivotally connecting the'rod at spaced points to the body, a swivel slidably mounted on the rod, and a pull cord connected to the swivel.
4. The combination with a toy vehicle including a body, of means for pulling the vehicle forward or rearward in a straight path alongside of, a child including a bail having a straight rod and right-angularly extending arms terminatin in eyes, eyes connected to the body, swivels connecting the eyes of the body with the eyes of the bail, a swivel slidably mounted on the bail, and a pull cord connected tothe swivel.
5 A boat comprising a hull and a depending keel, the forward leading edge of the keel being provided with a bevel on one side extending from theupper endof the keel, short of the bottom of the keel, and Jan oppositely directedbevel formed on the other side of the keel adjacent to its lower end. l v
6. The combination with a toy boat including a depending keel having its leading and trailing edges providedwith a bevel on one side thereof extending from its top short of its bottom, and an.
oppositely directed .bevel'onits other side adjacent tothe lower end thereof, of .a. .dragline for the boat including a U-shaped bail, links pivotally connecting. the ends of. the bail to the keel, anda pull cord slidablymountedon the bail.
'7. The combination with a toy vehicle including a body, of a wdragline therefor including a rod, means pivotally connecting the ends of the rod with the bodyon the opposite sides of the vertical axis of the body and parallel with the horizontal axis of the body, and ,a pull cord slidably connected to; the rod.
8. The combination with a vehicle including a body and front and rear pairs of wheels onthe body, the front wheels being inclined in one direction and the *rear wheels being inclined in an opposite direction, of a dragline for the vehicle including a rod, means pivotally connecting the ends of the rod with the body, and a pull cord slidably mounted on the rod.
9. A boat comprising a body and a depending keel, the keel having a flat plain face on one side and bevelled edges on the opposite side leading toward said flat plain face, and a dragline for the boat including a bail pivotally connected to thekeel on the side having the bevel, and a pull cord slidably mounted on the bail.
