BUILDING BLOCK Frederick P. Simpson, West New Brighton, N. Y.
Application October 28, 1933, Serial No. 695,675
1 Claim. (01. vz-s'n' My invention relates to building construction and more particularly to improvements in wall construction for inside partitions for buildings.
The principal object of my invention is to promeans for filling in between the studding of a wall with a minimum of time and labor to form a wall of the same thickness as said studding.
Other and subordinate objects will presently appear when the following description and claim are read with reference to the drawing accompanying and. forming a part of this specification.
In said drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a portion of a wall constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary part shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a block or tile forming a part of my invention; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a key member for use in connection with the block of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing by numeral, I designates a base stringer and 2 upright studs arising therefrom and spaced apart in the usual manner.
According to my invention the space between the studs 2 is built up by blocks or slabs 3, preferably rectangular in shape and superposed one upon another in edge to edge abutting relation, the lowermost block 3 seating on the stringer or base member I. Preferably the blocks 3 are of a length corresponding to the distance between the studs 2 and of a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the studs 2, whereby the-side faces of said blocks are flush with the sides of the studs.
Means are provided for retaining the blocks 3 in a common plane and securing them one to another and to the studs 2 as follows. The top and bottom edges of each block are grooved lonside elevation with gitudinally at 4, said grooves being preferably rectangular in crosssection. A single transverse adapted to be secured by n it is to be understood that it may be key member 6,. also preferably rectangular inv shape, extends between jabutting edges of con-.

other material such as metal. The bottom, edge of the lowermost block 3 is'securedtothe stringer l by a transverse key member] secured in any suitable manner "to said stringer and studs 2 I and interlocking with the slot 4 in the bottom edge of said lowermost block.
The blocks 3 may be formed.-
of any suitable material which is fire-proof. and presents a surface suitable for applying plaster against the same.
The foregoing constitutes a detailed de of a preferred embodiment of my invent scription ion, but
it is to be understood that right is herein reserved to variations and modifications falling fairly within the scope of the protection prayed.
What is claimed is:
In a wall construction, in combination, a base member, spaced apart studs arising therefrom, substantially rectangular blocks between said studs superposed oneupon the other in edge to edge abutting relation and of a length and thickness corresponding to the distance between said studs and the thickness of the latter. respectively, said blocks having thruout their lengths longitudinal I grooves in their upper an and a single transverse key member extendin d lower abutting edges,
g between abutting edges of each pair of contiguous blocks and interlocking with the grooves therein, the lengths of the keys being the same as the lengths of the blocks and means securing the keys to the inner faces of the studs. FREDERICK P. SIMPSON.
