This invention eonsists in an improved means for fa-stening the tips 01 leather cushions upon the ends of billiard-cnes, whereby the use of glue 01 other adhesive material is 'dispensed wir-h, and said. tips 01 cushions may be removed and applied With great facility, all of which is t00 partieularly hereinafter sei: fort-h t0 need further preliminary description.

The accompanying drawings fully illustrate this invenm'on, and show, in Figure l, in elevation, the end 0f a billiard-cue having my improved tipiastener applied thereto. - The leather oushions 01 tips.of bil]ia-rd-cues are commonly fastened upon theif ends by means of glue 01 a similar composition, which will adhere 130 bot-h the tip 01 cnshionand the end of the eue.

In pmetice tips 01 cushions so fastened in p1ace' am frequently displaced by the shock of impact eaused in the use of the cues, 01, when not so displaced, frequently require to be renew ed, either by reason 0f defects 01 by wem: fing out. In such eases the end 0f the cue require's to be eamefully cleaned by removing the dry g1ue, 'and a, new and even surface prepared f01 the reception of the new tip or cushionwhieh, after being properly secured by g1uing, must be set away f0r a 'day 01 more 120 become perfeetly dry before it 02m be used.

This operation of applying new tips, while in itse1f occupying 1nuch time m1d considerab1e 1abor, is a serious inco'nvenience, inasmuchas it not only deprives one of the use of aparticular cue, but neeessitates 1;he keeping 0f a large number of extra eues 011 band.

By my invention the cue-tip may be removed and a new 0 ne supplied in an inconsiderable Space 0f time, thus enabling a player to coutinue the use 0f the same cue, as Will 110W be explained. v

The eue Bis supplied with a tube 01 case A, open ab both ends, and tapered tqcorrespond with the shape 0f the cue.

This case A may be made 0f meta1, wood, horn, ivory, bone, vulcanized rubber, 01 sinni- 1ar material, and is fastened 011 the end 0f the cue (which is eut away t0 form a tenon t0 receive it) by mea ns of one 01 more screws, as b I), this mode of fastening being adopt@d as preferable to a screw-joint, for the reasonthat the latter would soon become spoiled by the shock which the cue receives in its use.

Tl1e top 0f the sliding she1l O is cut away 1:0 form a recess, t11e bottom 0 a-nd sides 0f which form a seat f0r thetip or 1621/51181 m. This shell Ois providecr with several longitudinal grooves, n, which are cut through the Walls 0f the shell, s2we m; the bottom, where they form pivotal seats f0r arms 0. Inside of the shell O, and between t he projecting knees 0f ohe arn1s r, it is preferab1e so introduce a rubber 0r simila;r elastie core, (not shown) the ae'oion of whieh will be t0 press said arms ouoward.

If it is desired t0 attaeh a tip 01' cushion,m, to this improved cue, the fastening-bolt e is pressed inward by 2m pointed instrument, so zus 1:0 re1ease its hold in the hole a, whereupon the shel1 O may be s1id, outward until the fastenend of the sliding shell C, the festening-bolt:
