Description

A. J. F. EHRIOH. Draft-Equalizer.
No. 199,045. Patented Jan. 8,1878.
ATTORNEYS.
MPETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON, D C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ADOLPH J. F. EHRIGH, OF KELLOGG, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAFT-EQUALIZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,045, dated January 8, 1878; application filed September 22, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH J. F. Eamon, of Kellogg, in the county of Wabasha and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Three-Horse Evener, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a top view of my improved device.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for attaching three horses to a reaper, harvester, mower, seeder, wagon, plow, roller, or other draft, to cause all the horses to draw alike, and to balance the side draft.
The invention consists in athree-horse evener, formed bythe combination of the bars, the braces, the bracket, the double pulley, the guide-pulleys, and the chains with each other and with a tongue, in the manner hereinafter fully described.
A represents the tongue of the machine to which the draftis to be applied. To the tongue A is bolted a bar, B, at a little distance from one end. To the outer end of the bar B is attached the forward end of a brace-rod, O, the rear end of which is attached to the end of the shorter arm of the bar D. The barDisbolted to the tongue A, and is strengthened by the braces E F, the outer ends of which arebolted to the ends of the bar D, and their inner ends are bolted to the tongue A a little in front of the said bar D.
G is a double pulley, the two parts of which are of unequal diameter, and which is placed between and pivoted to the outer end of the bars D and H.
The inner end of the bar H is secured to the tongue A by the bolt that secures the bar D to the said tongue A. Several holes are formed in the bars D H and brace F, so that the double pulley G may be moved out or in,-according as there may be more or less side draft to the machine.
To the smaller part of the double pulley G is attached the end of a chain, I, whichpasses around a guide-pulley, J, pivoted to the outer end of the bar D, and its other end is secured to the bar K near its outer end byagrab-hook, L, so that the said chain may be let out or taken up, as required. The bar K is pivoted at or near its center to the bracket M, which is attached to the bar B.
To the larger part of the pulley G is attached the end of a chain, N, which passes around a guide-pulley, O, pivoted to the inner end of the bar K, and its other end is attached to the bar P near its inner end by a grab-hook, Q, so that it may be lengthened and shortened, as required. The inner end of the bar 1? is pivoted to the inner end of the bar B, and to its outer end is pivoted the whiffletree of the single horse. To the outer end of the bar B is attached the end of a chain, R, which passes around a guide-pulley, S, pivoted to the outer end of the bar K, and to its other end is attached the double-tree of the two horses.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A three-horse evener formed by the combination of the bars B K D H P, the braces O E F, the bracket M, the double pulley G, the guide-pulleys J O S, and the chains I N B, with each other, and with a tongue, A, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
. ADOLPH J. F. EHRIOH.
