The result above will be obtained also by the form of the invention shown in Figures 8 to 12 inclusive.
In this form of the invention the yoke 17 is dispensed with and the axle 16'has end portions thereof operating in arcuate slots 45 provided 11' as at 48. On each end of the bar 47 is an anglemounting which includesia vertical rod 49 that is provided on its lower end with a stub'axle .50 for accommodating a front wheel of mei tic- "mobile, and on itsv upper end with an. arm 51 formed at its free end as at 52,to1be .engagedin the eye on" onelend'of a radius rod as clearly shown in Figure 8. l. A self propelled vehicle simulating toy having in combination rear traction wheeluan axle for the wheelslongitudinally 11 mounted on the body of. the toy supporting the, axle in a manner to shift the forwardly and rearwardly, and mechanical driving means for the axle controlled by the shifting of the bars to effect either a forward or reverse drive for the axle, optionally.
2. In a motor toy, a chassis, a motor mounted thereon and including a frame, a yoke pivoted to the frame, a wheeled axle extending through the sides of the yoke, and transmission gearing, between the motor and the axle and including a driven gear, forward and reverse drive gears respectively mounted on fixed axes disposed sub-a stantially in the same horizontal plane ,below the axis of the driven gear and at opposite sides of the said axis of the driven gear, said drive gears being in constant mesh with the driven gear, a speed gear fixed on said axle and movable therewith into mesh with a selected drive gear thus effecting a reversal in thedirection of the movement of the toy, and means to rotate the yoke for controlling the said reversal.

In a motor toy, a chassis, a motor mounted thereon and including a frame, a yoke pivoted to the frame, a wheeled axle extending through the sides of the yoke and transmission gearing between the motor and the axle and including a driven gear, forward and reverse drive gears respectively mounted on fixed axes disposed substantially in the same horizontal plane below the axis of the driven gear and at opposite sides of the said axis of the driven gear, said drive gears being in constant mesh with the driven gear, a speed gear fixed on said axle and movable therewith into mesh with a selected drive gear thus effecting a reversal in the direction of the movement of the toy, steering wheels supporting the front end of the chassis, and means connected with the steering wheel and the yoke to rotate the yoke for controlling the said reversal, and
'a driven gear, forward and reverse drive gears respectively mounted on fixed axes disposed substantially in the same horizontal plane below the axis of the driven gear and at opposite sides of the said axis of the driven gear, said drive gears being in constant mesh with the driven gear, a speed gear fixed on said axle and movable therewith into mesh with a'selected drive gear, thus effecting a reversal in the direction of the movement of the toy, steering wheels supporting the front end of the chassis, a bumper-structure mounted. on the chassis forlongitudinal movement and including integral front and rear bumpers and connecting rods between the bump-- ers extendinglongitudinally of the chassis, and
means connecting the bumper structure with the yoke and the steering wheels to rotate the yoke for controlling the said reversal and to swing the steering wheels either to the right or'left simultaneous with the reversal.
