1 Claim.
This invention relates to electric sockets in general and particularly to an electric socket which is removably arranged within a casing.
The object of the invention is to provide a new VIl and improved socket which can be removably arranged inside of a flexible rubber casing.
A further object is to provide a socket having improved means for preventing tension exerted on the conductors from being transmitted to the l socket terminals.
A further object is to provide a socket member having clamping means arranged thereon for clamping a part of the socket member to the electric conductors to which the socket is connected.
A still further object is to provide-a socket having a flexible rubber casing arranged inside of a guard handle which detachably supports a lamp guard.
Other objects and advantages will appear through the progress of the specification.
The invention comprises in general a socket member having an insulated disk which is of greater diameter than the general diameter of the socket. I'he socket ilts into a flexible rubber casing which has an annular groove into which the insulated disk ilts. The interiitting engagement oi' the disk with the annular groove holds the socket in proper operable position relative to w the casing.
The outer end of the casing isA provided with a longitudinal passage through which the conductors leading to the socket terminals pass.
' Part of this passage is provided with ribs or teeth which bite into the conductor when a clamp which is arranged about the forward end of the casing is tightened in position. 'Ihe assembled socket and casing are adapted to ilt inside of a -handle guard, and a lamp guard is removably attached to the guard handle.
The accompanying drawing illustrates a selected embodiment of the invention and the views therein are as follows:

Referring to the drawing, 5 designates a socket member generally having the usual threaded shell or socket member 6 to receive an electric lamp 7 or other member. such as a plug (not shown). The shell 6v is connected to a circular insulated member or disk 8, and terminals 9 and 10 are fastened -to the disk and have electrical connection with the shell 6 and contact 11 respectively in the usual manner.
The socket member 5 is made of flexible rubber and has a compartment or chamber 13 into which 5 the socket ilts. This member 5 which is made of exible rubber, is resilient and comparatively soft so that it may bend and stretch within reasonable limits. An annular groove 14 is provided on the inside of the member 5 to receive the vdisk 8 which is normally larger in diameter than the general inside diameter of the socket member 5. When the socket is inserted in the casing the disk will engage the groove and hold the socket in normal fixed or placed position. 15
The forward end of the socket member 5, to the left, Figs. 1 and 2, is tapered at 15 and has a cylindrical end 16 which receives a clamp 17. A
.longitudinal passage 18 is provided in the forward end of the socket member to accommodate 20 the electric conductors 19 which are electrically connected to the terminals 9 and l0, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. g 4
The clamp 17 is preferably composed of two parts 20 and 2l which are maintained in operative relationship by tightening means 22.
The inside of the longitudinal passage or bore 18 is provided with teeth or ribs 23 which bite into the sheath surrounding the conductors 19 when the clamp 17 is tightened in place. Any tension 30 which may be exerted on the conductors or the sheath is transmitted directly to the socket member and not on the terminals 9 and 10.
If desired, the socket member 5 may be arranged in a lamp and guard handle of the type shown and described in Patent 1,507,742, granted September 9, 1924. If the present socket member is to be used in connection with a lamp and guard handle of the type mentioned in the aforesaid patent, an annular groove 24 may be pro- 40 vided on the outside of the socket member to receive the annular collar 25 which is arranged on the inside of the guard handle 26 to hold the socket member 5 in place in the guard handle.

'I'he invention provides a socket member 5 detachably arranged inside of a flexible rubber guard handle and is maintained from displacement when mounted in this guard handle.

Changes may be made in the form, construction, and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacriflcing any of its advantages, andythe right is hereby reserved to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the following claim.
'I'he invention is hereby claimed as follows:
A socket member comprising a casing of resilient material having a groove therein, a metal screw threaded shell arranged in said casing, a disk fastened to said shell engageable with said groove for holding said shell in said casing, said casing having a longitudinal passage therein, a conductor cable extending through said passage and electrically connected to said shell, a clamp about a part of said casing, and ribs integrally formed on said casing and arranged on the inside of said passage for biting into said conductor cable when'said clamp is tightened.
