1 claim.
Thisinventionrelates to electric signs and more particularly to such signs adapted to be placed against a window and to be secured to the inner surface of the frame of the same.
One of the objectsof the invention is vision of an electricsign ofthe character described and which may be illuminated by a lamp within a casing forming part of the sign.
Other objects will be appreciated from a reading of the following specification.
The invention will be fullyand comprehensive- 1y understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application with the" understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of .extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and,
therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therefrom as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawingz Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the improved sign Fig. 2 is an end view, partly in section, of the sign shown in Fig. 1, the sign being shown as mounted on a window frame which, together with ,the window, is shown in vertical section.
Referring to the drawing fora more detailed description thereof, the sign comprises a casing ably white in order to reflect light from the lamp;
5 of right angular formation in cross-section so .as to have a. vertical portion6 and a horizontal portion 7, the bottom 8 of the horizontal portion 7 being adapted to rest on top of the lower cross member 9 of a window sash, inside and'in contact with the window 10. The freeend of the 1 horizontal part 7 of the casing slidably carries a light transmitting signl2, which bears the word Dentist.
, An elongate electric lamp is disposed in the vertical part 6 of the casing so as to illuminate the sign, the interiortof the casing being prefer- The back upper edge of the casing is rounded, as
the proof my invention, the view showing the sign broken away; and
indicated by the numeral 16, in order to effect a uniform diffusionof light thruout the sign and to avoid the casting of any shadows.
The sign 12, which is preferably translucent, is adapted to bewithdrawn through one side of the casing so, that any desired sign may be placed the casing.v The lamp 15 is screwed into a socket 1 1'? which is in the form of a right angle elbow,
which abuts against and is secured to the back wall of the casing, a cable 18 carrying the elec trically conducting wires 19 and 20 being conpassing through the nected to the socket and mentioned rear wall.
When the casing is shorter than the width of Q the window it-is. secured to the lower transverse member 9 of the window sash by means of brackets 21 and 22. 'When, however, the length of the sign is equal to the width of the window; it is preferably secured to the vertical side mem- Y bers of the window sash by means o'fbrackets 24 and 25, which are fastenedito the sides 26and27,
respectively, of the casing.
It will be appreciatedfrom which is neat in appearance and effective es-- pecially during the evening in interiorsthat are dark. It will also be appreciated that a window may be raised without disturbing the sign and that its formation is such that it rests on the bottom transverse member of a window sash and, further, that it will fulfill the objects of the invention. a
What is claimed as new and useful is: An illuminated sign comprising a casing having a horizontal front part and a vertical rear part, the former part having an aperture at the front thereof, a sign plate to be illuminated and positioned to close said aperture, a lamp positioned in saidvvertical part below said sign plate,
said casing being so formed that said sign plate may be positioned adjacent the inner face of the lower. part of a window pane and said vertical part may be disposed adjacent the inner face of the \lower transverse member of the window sash.
