T. J. LEWIS PACKAGE Filed Oct. 12, 1932 T4 N GER/NE /W//W//// V/ W l-tivrneys Patented Nov. 27, 1934 UNITED STATES Application October 12, 1932, Serial No. 637,533
1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in packages, and more especially to a novel display package for use with compact refills.
One of the objects of the invention is to'pro- 5 vide a display box having separate cases for compact refills of various colors or shades, and each case so constructed as to display the refill through a finger hole in its cover; the cover being frictionally and resiliently held in position to prevent dislodgment of the same due to the inherent tendency of the refill to expand.
With the foregoing object outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing,
0 Fig. 1 is a plan view of the package with the cover removed.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same taken through a couple of the refill cases.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the body of one of the cases.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cover of one of the cases shown bottom side up to illustrate.
that the ends of the walls of the cover are unconnected to permit said walls to spring out and frictionally engage the inner surfaces of the walls of the body of the case.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the bottom part or body of a tray type cardboard box which is adapted to be closed by a similarly shaped cover, not shown.
In the part 1, a number of cardboard cases 2 are arranged, and as the parts are of rectangular shape, the cases fill the part 1 and frictionally engage one another and the inner surfaces of the walls of the body 1 to prevent the cases from accidentally falling out of the body or tray 1.
Each case, as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, consists of a tray 3 and a cover 4. The tray 3 has a bottom 5 from which rise walls 6 having their ends secured together to provide an upstanding rectangular enclosure.
The cover of each case has a top '7 from which depends flaps 8, the ends of which are unconnected so as to allow said fiaps, due to the inherent resiliency of the cardboard from which they are made, to spring out and thereby frictionally engage the inner surfaces of the wall of the tray 3 to prevent accidental dislodgment of the cover due to the tendency of the compact refill 9 to expand. Each refill may consist of a PATENT OFFICE cake 10 of rouge or the like and a pufi 11, and as the pufi tends to expand upwardly, it would act to dislodge the cover of its case in transit if it were not for the special construction of the cover.
The cover of each case is apertured as shown at 12, and this not only permits display of the refill, but provides an opening into which a finger may be inserted when it is desired to remove the cover.
Such a package not only provides an attractive display ensemble, but acts to protect the refills from dust and the like, as a sheet of cellophane 13 placed over each refill will be held by such refill against the edge of the opening inthe cover, or in other words, will form a window which will keep the case dust-proof, but will not interfere with the insertion of a finger for the removal of the cover.
From the foregoing it is believed that the construction and advantages of the invention may be readily understood, and it is apparent that changes may be made in the details disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in'the claim.
What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A compact refill package including a case containing a compact refill and comprising a tray and a cover, said tray consisting of a bottom and a rectangular wall,.said cover consisting of a top and depending flaps, the ends of the flaps being free of one another and of resilient material and frictionally engaging the inner surface of the said cover.
