4 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in immersion rolls for slashers used in the manufacture of textiles and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner ;as hereinafter set forth, a roll embodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which better penetration of the yarn by the size will be had.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide an immersion roll embodying novel agitating means for eliminating substantially all lumps and unmixed compound, thus further aiding in the penetration of the yarn and assuring an improved product on the loom.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an immersion roll of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eificient and reliable in use, compact and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompany- .;ing drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an immersion roll constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a View in vertical longitudinal section through the immersion roll.
Figure 3 is a view in vertical transverse section, taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view in end elevation of the invention.
Figure 5 is a detail view in vertical longitudinal section, showing the connection of one ;end portion of one of the tubes to one of the headers.
Figure 6 is a detail view in vertical longitudinal section, showing the connection of one of the agitators to one of the spacers.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it ill be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a pair of headers which are designated generally by the reference numeral 1, each header including a g circular plate 2 having a plurality of tapered openings 3 therein. Extending between the head-. ers 1 is a plurality of hollow tubes 4 of suitable metal having flared end portions 5 which are seated in the tapered openings 3. Hardwood pins 3 6 (see Figure 5) are provided in the end portions of the tubes 4. The he countersunk disks 7 whi ends of the tubes 4.
The reference numeral ity of spacers for the tu substantially in the for erally spaced recesses of said tubes 4. Ag S-shaped cross sectio ed between ends thereto, as at 11. 12 designates, in broken drawings, the yarn trav The outermost spacer ends of through the headers 1 a the spacers trunnions l3 aders 1 further include ch cover and conceal the 8 designates a pluralouter end portions 14 providing shoulders 15 with which said headers l are nions 13 further include engaged. The trunthreaded portions 16 which receive nuts 17 which, in conjunction with the shoulders 15, secure headers.
nuts 17 and the headers 1 It will thus be seen has been provided wher such that penetration be materially aided. to supporting the agi the tubes 4 at inter readily apparent. As manner the agitators all lumps and unmixed Washers 18 are ly desirable feature.
It is believed that the many advantages of an immersion roll co with the present inven stood, and althou the invention is said trunnions in the interposed between the that an immersion roll ein the construction is of the yarn by the size will The spacers 8, in addition tator 10, support or brace mediate points, as will be the roll rotates in the usual 10 eliminate substantially compound, another highnstructed in accordance tion will be readily undergh a preferred embodiment of as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the construction and in the combination details of and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which within the scope of the invention as will fall claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. An immersion roll of the class described comprising a pair of headers, spaced tubes ex-- tending between the headers,
spacers mounted comprising a pair of headers, centrally in said headers, spa
trunnions mounted ced tubes extending between the headers, spacers mounted between the tubes at longitudinally spacers including disks spaced points, said having peripherally of the tubes, and trunnions mounted on the headers.
4. An immersion roll of the class described comprising a pair of trunnions, headers mounted, at an intermediate point, on said trunnions, tubes extending between said headers, a series of spacers mounted between the tubes, the outermost spacers being fixed on the inner end portions of the trunnions, and.agitatorsextending between the spacers.
