Preferably and as shown, all parts of said channel-shaped member, except the beads 17 thereof, are enclosed in a suitable covering 20, of vulcanized rubber or the like, and in order to further cushion the window 5 which this channel shaped member is adapted to receive, the rubber covered inner surface of the base15 thereof is provided with a suitable longitudinally disposed cushioning pad 21, of felt or the like, and the window-engaging surfaces of the two rubber covered flanges 18 of said member are provided with longitudinally disposed cushioning pads 22, which also are of felt or the like.
To guide and support the vertically movable rear edge portion 10 of window 5, a strip 25 of such standard form window channel is suitably installed or mounted in the door 2 along the rear edge portion thereof, and to guide and support the front edge portion of said window, a strip 30 of such standard form channel is suitably installed or mounted in said dooralong the front edge portion thereof, all as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
Said rear channel strip 25, without modification thereof or additions thereto, is quite suitable for guiding and supporting the vertically movable rear edge portion 10 of window 5, and the lower section of said front channel strip 30, without modification thereof or additions thereto, is quite suitable for guiding and supporting the vertically movable front edge portion 12 of the bottom I part of said window. However, due to the inclination of the front edge portion '7 of the top part of said window, the upper section of said front channel strip 30 is not suitable, without additions thereto, for properly guiding and supporting said inclined front edge portion '7. Therefore, to make said strip upper section suitable for such purpose, suitable supplemental side wall members are provided for the side walls 16 thereof, the supplemental side wall members here shown being simple sheet metal members 35 having their inner longitudinal edge portions 36 spot-welded at 37 or otherwise suitably secured to the outer surfaces of the uncovered longitudinally disposed beads 17 of said side walls 16.
Inasmuch as the top part of window 5 is of gradually decreasing width, from the point marked K (Fig. 1) to the top edge 8 thereof, .the two supplemental side wall members 35 for at least a part of their length are of gradually increasing depth. In order to avoid the necessity of having said supplemental side wall members of increasing depth throughout their entire length (and such avoidance is desirable for visibility and appearance purposes, etc.), the top portion of the upper section of the front channel strip 30, in the embodiment of the invention here illustrated, is bent slightly rearwardly, as at 40. As a result, the depth of those parts of the supplemental side wall members 35 lying above said bend does not increase but remains constant, and yet the outer longitudinal edge portions of said supplemental side wall parts continue in alignment with the outer longitudinal edge portions of the supplemental side wall parts lying below said bend, all as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and as will be readily understood. Preferably and as shown, the outer longitudinal edge portions of said supplemental side wall members-35, which edge portions have an inclination corresponding to that of the front edge portion '7 of the top part of the window 5 and extend along the front edge portion of the door opening 3, are provided with longitudinally disposed beads 42, which beads may, if desired, be chromium-plated or otherwise suitably ornamented.
If desired and as shown, the supplemental side wall members 35 may be provided at their lower ends with suitable extensions 45 adapted for securement to the lower section of the channel strip 30. By securing said extensions to said channel strip section first, the subsequent securement of said supplemental side wall members to the channel strip upper section can be more easily and conveniently effected.
In the embodiment of the invention here shown,
said extensions 45 are integral parts of said supplemental side wall members and comprise side wall portions 46 provided at their outer longitudinal edge portions with longitudinally disposed beads 47, which beads are continuations of the beads 42 of said supplemental side wall members. As best shown in Fig. 5, the side wall portions 46, comprising said extensions, lie alongside the outer surfaces of the side walls 16 of the lower section of the channel strip 30, being of slightly less depth than that of said channel strip side walls, and the longitudinally disposed beads 47 of said extensions overlie and grip the longitudinally disposed side wall beads 1'7 of said channel strip section, thereby enabling the securement of said extensions to said channel strip section to be easily, neatly and simply eflected.
Further features of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates.
What I claim is:
1. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a base and a pair of side walls terminating at their outer longitudinal edges in longitudinally disposed beads, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one secured to the bead of each of the side walls thereof, said supplemental side wall members terminating at their outer longitudinal edges in longitudinally disposed beads.
2. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a base and a pair of side walls, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one secured to each of the side walls thereof, each of said supplemental side wall members being of varying depth.
3. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a base and a pair of side walls, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one secured to each of the side walls thereof, each of said supplemental side wall members being of substantially uniform depth for a portion of its length and of varying depth for another portion of its length.
4. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a covered base and a-pair of covered side walls provided at their outer longitudinal edges with longitudinally disposed uncovered portions, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one secured tothe uncovered portion of each of the side walls thereof.
5. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a base and a pair of side walls, said structure intermediate its ends being longitudinally bent sothat part of the base of said structure extends at an angle to the remaining part of the base thereof, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one for each of the side walls thereof, said supplemental side wall members having their inner longitudinal edge portions secured to the outer longitudinal edge portions of said side walls, those parts of said supplemental side wall members on one side of said bend having side wall portions of substantially uniform depth and those parts of said supplemental side wall members on the other side of said bend having side wall portions of varying depth.
6. A window runway or channel, comprising a generally channel shaped window-receiving structure having a base and a pair of side walls, said structure intermediate its ends being longitudinally bent so that part of the base of said structure extends at an angle to the remaining part of the base thereof, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for said structure, there being one for each of the side walls thereof, said supplemental side wall members having their inner longitudinal edge portions secured to the outer longitudinal edge portions of said side walls, those parts of said supplemental sidewall members on one side of said bend having side wall portions of substantially uniform depth and those parts of said supplemental side wallmembers on the other side of said bend having side wall portions of varying depth, the outer longitudinal edge portions of the side wall portions of each supplemental side wall member on both sides of said bend being in alignment.
7. A window runway or channel for guiding and supporting the edge portion of a slidable window, said edge portion having one section thereof movable in a path inclined to the path of movement of another section thereof, said runway or channel comprising a generally channel-shaped structure having a base and a pair of side walls, said structure having one section thereof adapted to receive one section of the edge portion of said window, and a pair of supplemental side wall members for another section of said structure, there being one supplemental side wall member secured to each of the side walls of said second mentioned section of said structure, said supplemental side wall members being adapted to receive and guide the other section of the edge portion of said window.
8. A window runway or channel for guiding and supporting a side edge portion of a vertically slidable window, said edge portion having one section thereof movable in a vertical path and having another section thereof movable in a path inclined to the vertical, said runway or of movement inclined to the vertical.
9. A window runway or channel for guiding and supporting a side edge portion of a vertically slidable window, the edge portion of the lower part of said window having a vertical path of movement and the edge portion of the upper part of said window having a path of movement inclined to the vertical, said runway or channel comprising a generally channel-shaped structure having a base and a pair of side walls, said structure having its lower section thereof adapted to receive the vertically movable edge portion of the lower part of said window, and a pair of supplemental side wall members of increased and varying depth forthe upper section of said structure, said supplemental side wall members being secured to the side walls of said upper section and being adapted to receive and support the other movable front edge portion of the top part of said window.
10. A window runway or channel for guiding and supporting a side edge portion of a vertically slidable window, the edge portion of the no lower part of said window having a vertical path of movement and the edge portion of the upper part of said window having a path of movement inclined to the vertical, said runway or channel comprising a generally channel-shaped structure having a base and a pair of side walls, said structure having its lower section thereof adapted to receive and support the vertically movable edge portion of the lower part of said window, and
a pair of supplemental side wall members for the upper section of said structure, said supplemental side wall members being secured to the side walls of said upper section and being adapted to receive and support the other movable front edge portion of the top part of said window, said supplemental side wall members being provided at their lower ends with extensions secured to the side walls of the lower section of, said structure and lying along the outer surfaces of said side walls between the inner and outer longitudinal edges thereof,
