Description
0- 1934- w. HEINITZ FLAT HOSIERY FRAME Filed Jan. 21, 19255 Patented Oct. 23, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FLAT HOSIEBY FRAME Application January 21, 1933, Serial No. 652,865 In Germany April 16, 1930 3 Claims. (C1. 66-128) The invention relates to a device for limiting the throw of the thread guide bars in flat knitting machines and particularly refers to a device for limiting the throw of each bar independently of that of the others by means of pattern pins serving as stops.
To avoid the necessity of extending these pattern pins beyond the sections necessary for the patterning if, for instance, the same pattern is to be produced at another part of the width of the fabric, the thread guide bar according to the invention is so constructed that extension members of different length may be connected to its ends.
In this way it is possible to effect the patterning at any desired part of the width of the fabric without altering the arrangement of the pattern pins. Moreover, after removing the extension members the thread guides may be brought out of the operating position without the bars requiring particularly much space at the sides of the machine.
By inserting extension members'the intermittent guidance of the thread carried according to the pattern may be effected either in the middle or in the side parts of the fabric without changing the pattern pin arrangement. This selective guidance permits patterning on any wale within the fabric width without requiring a rearrangement of the pattern pins.
By way of example, one embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device and Fig. 2, a top view thereof.
Referring to the drawing, thebars 1 which preferably are of equal length and carry the thread guides 2 have a hook on both ends to receive the books of the extension pieces 3, 3' which may differ in length. Each thread guide bar, therefore, consists of the bar 1 carrying the thread guide 2 and the extension members 3 and 3', each of which is provided with an adjustable end stop 4 and 4', respectively. Within range of the stops 4 and 4', work pins 8 are carried by the pattern chains '1.
The division of the thread guide bars permits variations in the total length thereof in the simplest and quickest way possible.
By the employment of extension members 3,
3' of corresponding length, the working range of co the thread guide may be rapidly and easily transferred to any part of the fabric while the different length of the pins 8 makes patterning possible within this range.
For example, by means of correspondingly chosen extension members 3, 3' the path of the thread guide 2 towards the left or right may be limited to certain portions of the width of the fabric and by using pins 8 of different length a steady progressive or a jumping change of the throw may be effected within this range in the individual wales, thereby increasing the possibility of patterning and permitting the production of any pattern by simple means.
I claim:-
1. Device for limiting the path'of thread guide bars in fiat hosiery machines, comprising thread bars having hooked ends, extension pieces provided with hooks on one end for connection to the ends of said bars, said pieces differing in length, and adjustable stops carried on the other end of said pieces.
2. In a device for limiting the throw of the thread guides in flat knitting machines, in combination with thread guide bars each carrying a thread guide, extension members of different lengths adapted to be hooked to the ends of said guide bars, and adjustable stops carried by the free end of said hooked extension members.
3. In a device for limiting the throw of the thread guides in flat knitting machines, in combination with thread guide bars each carrying a thread guide and provided with a hook at both ends, and extension members of different lengths each of which carries a hook at one end and an adjustable stop at the opposite end.
