Description

Patented Oct. 2, 1934 UNITE-D STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
'Ihis invention relates to garments for women and pertains particularly to a covering for the lower portion of the human anatomy and is especially adapted to replace bloomers and similar garments and has for the primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character-which will provide maximum protection and comfort to the wearer and which will not be bulky or cause bulging of the outer garments, thereby rendering the device appropriate for use with outer garments constructed of thin and iiimsy material and affords the wearer the desired protection and concealment.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my inven- 'io tion, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which In the drawing:- l Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view partly in section illustrating a garment constructed in accordance with my invention showing the same applied to a girdle or like garment worn by a figure.
Figure 2 is a. plan viewillustrating a garment. Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the garment in its entirety which consists of front and rear portions connected by a crotch portion 3. The garment is preferably :i5 constructed from any material suitable for the purpose and consists of strips of material and each strip has one edge cut to form a c impound curve while the opposite edgey is out straight. The straight edges of the strips of material are over- 0 lapped and stitched together, as shown at 4, forming a seam extending through the front, rear and crotch portions of the garment. The compound curves of the strips of material provide the garment at the front and rear portions of i5 considerable width while the crotch portion is comparatively narrow. The crotch portion being narrower than the other portions allows the ,garment to extend between the legs and to be worn with comfort while the front and rear J0 portions substantially cover the front and rear portions of the body above the crotch thereof and below the waistline.
The garment l at each end or the material thereof is folded to form hems 5 providing a series of pleats 6 in the front and rear portions of the garment. Elastic strips '1 are secured in the hems allowing the front and rear portions when worn bya person to readily expand and contract so that the person will have freedom of movement. The crotch portion 3 is provided with a 50 series of pleats 8 allowing this portion to readily conform to the crotch of the body and to have suiilcient play so as not to bind the wearer.
separable fasteners 9 are secured to the hems 5 and to the inner walls of a girdle or like garment 65 10, permitting the garment l to be fastened under and to the garment l0. The garment 1 when applied to the garment 10 will eiilciently cover the front and rear portions of the person and will be form-ttng so as not to produce bulges and the like within garments worn thereover.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim:
A garment comprising a strip of material having opposite compound curved edges and straight ends providing front and rear portions of the same width and a crotch portion of less width than the front and rear portions, pleats formed in the crotch portion and extending through opposite edges thereof, hems formed at the straight n edges of the strip of material, pleats extending from the hems inwardly of the front and rear portions, elastic strips secured in the hems, and separable fasteners carried by the hems for attaching the front and rear portions to the inner face of abody-encircling garment.
